They’re called Ancients, but they are as likely to be an ancient evil as an ancient good. They aren’t all ancient, but some have lived through millennia. From a Roman soldier to a witch in Salem, they are uniquely long-lived. From William the Conqueror to Geronimo, they blend in with their culture and hide what they are. They live for centuries, or millennia, changing identities at need. They move through periods of time by skipping chunks of time like a stone skipping on a lake. They might miss your lifetime entirely as they travel forward in time by way of these skips. Some skip time frequently, some not at all. They have the advantage of being able to work on ideas and theories for lifetimes, not mere decades. Ancients are few in number; some have never met another and think they are alone. Others have fought and killed other Ancients. They don’t die natural deaths, but they can be killed. They heal quickly, but they can die. They don’t see you as others see you, or as you see yourself. To some of them your life is so brief as to be significant, and therefore seem worth less than their own. You, as a Normal, may be useful for a while, but not always necessary. Even though your flame may burn brightly, as the idiom goes, in their estimate your flame will be too brief to have a meaningful impact. What might DaVinci have achieved had he lived a thousand years? What power might have been held by a Caesar if he lived six hundred years? Think about people in your time who seem bigger than life, who seem ahead of the times, who seem to disregard the cultural restrictions of the day. Might they be Ancients, prepared to fake their death and jump ahead thirty years to continue their life? Even the Ancients aren’t sure how many they number, nor do they have a formula to determine if someone is an Ancient. What about their children? This journey is a series of several books. In this first one you meet some of the Ancients. In addition to the interesting times they’ve lived through, and their own personal stories, we see how their unique view of life and history can cause enormous conflict. They each, as we do, choose to be on the side of good or evil. Some Ancients have chosen to dominate humanity, and others have chosen to help us. The clash between them is inevitable. Take the journey with them.
