This is book one of The Yubitsume Principle series and the main characters are police detective Calum and death row prisoner and serial killer Angus. Calum is visiting Angus on the eve of his execution, to learn about the monster behind the killings and why he did it. This short story focuses on the King couple, a preacher and his wife, who loved to play loose and easy with others and take their money. Angus had visited the King’s at one of their sessions and paid to have a private audience with them and had been planning what he would do with them both, whilst also pretending to be a wealthy heir and businessman with money to donate! If what Angus had revealed about this victim and the links to the top of the police department was released to the media, it would cause a wildfire of accusations and speculation. Angus had targeted prominent people in society and portrayed them as corrupt, or was that just the killer’s twisted view of the world? His ow captain doesn’t want him to continue questioning Angus, perhaps worried about her own connection to the current victim, the reverend.
The killer has nicknamed his tale of saints and sinners, whilst the media have named him the Foundation Killer. BY the way on which he was choosing his victims and who they were, the killer was literally destroying the foundations of society! Calum wanted to believe that there was more to the story behind the killings and to see if the killer’s confession matched the autopsy records exactly, as even though the killer is in prison, the killings haven’t stopped. Angus has worked form behind bars to set another part of his sick game into play on the very eve of his execution. Calum could be the only one to get the execution stopped, but what he is told gets his captain riled up and on the move. Another dead body and the press are already there, with only Calum to be blamed for their presence there. It looks like he is about to be made a scapegoat and backed into a corner! Angus is playing a game and who knows what the final outcome will be?
