4/5⭐️ - My one and only read for Nonfiction November lol and I really enjoyed it. I think I highlighted the whole book there were so many gems.
- This is a self help book and it was written like one big pep talk. It focuses largely on your emotional needs and what you need to do to become your best self. It was written for black girls though with references like black girl magic and things like that. They also brought up some of the struggles black women face and how to help heal you when the world doesn't care. My favorite parts were when she talked about anxiety she was spot on, trusting your instincts and not letting your inner critic take up too much space. It also speaks to building a circle of friends you can trust it's vital really.
- I do feel like this book made you really reflect but I dont like the spacing of it. Other than than that it was great and I did journal while reading this and found myself reflecting on a lot.
Often time Black Women are faced many obstacles that we don't know how to overcome. This is because we're conditioned to act, behave, ignore, etc.. a certain way. It's time to break that cycle that we're accustomed to and take time for ourselves. Even Wonderwoman gets tired! This book is an excellent start to doing that. Layla analyzes things that we pass as an afterthought. But every word written is meant to give Black Women the strength to put YOU first. I encourage you to read this because it's an excellent read from start to finish. It gives you something to think about and hopefully lay the foundation to take care of you first and foremost!
Man, this book was magical. Every topic, such as anger, self esteem and self image, was talked about intuitively. I could identify with alot of these things. I would definitely recommend. Thank you for writing this book, more people need to walk in their calling because the world needs them.
This book is truly amazing and has helped me recognize things about myself that required healing. I honestly feel like I’ve grown so much from the moment I started reading this book until now. Thank you so much for writing this book Layla!
This book was a excellent read. Very motivating and insightful. Recommend you to read if you're ready to change your out look on life as a black woman.
This book addresses so many thoughts we have as black women. It reiterates that I’m not alone in how I’ve felt or thought about this book definitely provides the tools to tackle and getting to a better version of me!
Learning about yourself and how you cope with the world, emotionally, has been healing to my soul. I recommend this book to the women dear to my heart.
Emotional self-care for black women was an excellent read. Very well written.
The author Layla Moon went deep. It dealt with some of the issues we as black women have, making this book a very relatable. Taking care of yourself was the chapter for me offering valuable insight. As a black woman I have been raised to put everyone before myself. I’ve worn many different titles in self-sacrifice.
I recommend this book for anyone looking to make a positive change in their life.
I really like the way this book is put together. I was skeptical at first because sometimes with authors for these types of topics, come off preachy. This book was so relatable and affirming. The author did a great job of providing a foundation to emotional self care and reminding you through the book that if you are finding it really difficult to get more progress to talk to someone (therapist , friends, etc?). I would definitely recommend this book.
This book is great and providing great chunks of inspiration and knowledge for taking care of yourself as a black women. The cultural ethos that keep us behind and wound up no longe4 has to exist. The author reminds us that old ideas no longer have to rule our emotions. We are human and deserve care and love.
