The Image of You

Rate this book
I realized in that one moment something was terribly wrong.

“I apologize,” she spoke, sounding formal.
“You have me at a disadvantage.”
Her hand rose in greeting. “I’m Alexandra Robbins…and you are?”

I stared at her hand and then her beautiful face.

The woman I had loved passionately—desperately—and still loved to this day.

My former fiancée…who was looking at me with no recognition.

As if I were a stranger to her.

And then it hit me as I took in the emptiness in her eyes.

I was.

I’d spent so much time trying to find my way back to her, only to have her not remember me.

One thing was for sure—I would spend my last breath trying to remind her who I was, who we were, and who we would eventually be again.

All I needed was the chance to show her.

The Image of You is a stand alone romance by Melanie Moreland. This was previously published in 2017 as My Image of You but now has added content to become a full length novel. I have to admit something here. I was unprepared for this book. The prologue pretty much lets you know what you’re in for and it was quite the emotional journey, for me anyway. Some books just hit you harder in the feels than others and this one was full of feels. I even woke up at night thinking about it.

Alexandra (Ally) Robbins is twenty five years old and is an emergency room nurse. And that’s exactly where Adam and Ally’s story begins, on an ER exam table. I think I would classify this book as insta-attraction because that’s just what these two felt right from the start, that unmistakable chemistry that can’t be explained. That undeniable feeling that you just HAVE to see this person again. Ally’s life was very complicated. Why, I don’t want to say because I don’t want to give anything away. But she couldn’t deny what she was feeling and I loved that she was willing to explore it. How could she say no to the very convincing Adam?

Adam Kincaid is thirty three years old and is a famous photographer. He makes his living traveling to places ravaged by disasters. He’s the first on the scene, taking the pictures that will tell the world what happened. His work is dangerous and he travels constantly. He has no ties at home. But for the first time in his life, after meeting Ally, he doesn’t want to jump on a plane to the next job. He wants to stay, with her.

Most every story has a bad buy, a villain. This one has two and they are doozies. They will do anything to get what they want, lie, manipulate, only capable of scorn, not possessing an ounce of warmth in their hearts. But we also have a wonderful side character that I fell in love with, Ally’s Aunt Elena. She was a hoot!

Adam and Ally’s path was not an easy one but their love was true. But is it strong enough to overcome all that is thrown in their way? That you will have to find out on your own when you read this. Just be ready. You may or may not require tissues for this depending on your emotional tolerance. I do doubt, though, that you will be able to get through this without your heart both breaking and expanding as you follow these two through their journey.

“I’ve been waiting for you all my life. Waiting for you to find me.”

3.5⭐ rounded up.

Re-released with updates ~ originally published in 2017 as My Image of You

Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, 2 part story, insta-love, age gap (33 & 25), photographer, nurse, parental neglect

The intriguing prologue had me waiting ages and ages to find out what happened to lead to the circumstances of Ally's memory loss.

Part 1 is told solely by Adam, a super famous, wealthy travel photographer. He is controlling, obsessive and possessive from the moment he meets Ally, and honestly he was giving me creepy vibes for quite a bit. He was all about how manipulating her family is, but hello pot have ya met kettle? I did like part 2 Adam much more than part 1.

Elena was a fun, sassy lady and I loved her commitment to the animal shelter. Sarah wins the award for worst mother of the century.

Part 2 picks up where the prologue left off and we finally get some chapters from Ally's POV. Ally comes off very immature and weak. And I know most of it stems from her family life, but I was waiting with bated breath for far too long for her to grow up. I was really frustrated with her at the 54% mark. It took a bit, but I'm happy she finally matured into a strong woman.

Overall, a good read and I really liked the epilogue.

*Thanks to Melanie Moreland and Valentine PR for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

Update 2022: I read the original Sept 2017. And how could she make the story "more"? The added content rounded out their journey. Adding nuance to the scenes gives the reader a deep experience of the character's journey to HEA. Alex is a soul needing release from her cage, and Adam loves her with a ferocity that every heart deserves. Brilliant, emotional, and engaging. This will leave you with a book hangover.

Once again Melanie Moreland enchants me with her words. She has one voice in contemporary romance that is not to be missed. My Image of You cocoons you tightly in their world that you never want to leave. Adam and Alex are beautifully complex characters that are delivered to the reader with equal parts of lust, humor, tenderness, and love.

Adam is what I would refer to as an understated alpha. His persona is charming and captivating. He has a job that would make any adrenaline junkie jealous. And he passes that passion onto those he loves with evenly matched ferocity. As a reader, you can't help but feel as deeply as he does throughout the story.

Alex is a gorgeously written heroine whose waters run deep. She has an inner strength that shines brighter as the story progresses. Although her glow may dim at times, it's finding that one that helps you glimmer all the time. With Adam, her character doesn't just twinkles but radiates. You don't feel sympathy, but empathy for this endearing heroine. You WANT her to have her HEA.

I would be remiss without mentioning the secondary characters. Ms. Moreland never writes these characters as someone to move the story along . They are as necessary as the main characters need air to breathe. Elena again is one character I wish I knew in real life. She leaps off the page and into your heart.

If you are familiar with Melanie Moreland's writing, My Image of You is right up there with The Contract and Beneath The Scars as favorites of mine. If you are not, you will not be disappointed with this bewitching story. 5 out of 5 stars

I LOVE this book so much! I loved every second I spent reading it. I lost track of time while reading. I read way past my bedtime (not really a surprise with a Melanie Moreland novel) and I didn’t mind it at all that I was tired the next day. I had to know how this book ended. I couldn’t put it down. My Image of You is one of my favorite books this year!

I always feel for this author’s main characters. They are (a little) damaged, but they are also strong, smart and passionate. I always root for the characters to be together. They deserve all the happiness, love and the happily ever after they get in the end. It wasn’t any different with Adam and Ally.

Adam is just amazing and perfect! He’s caring, sweet, strong, loving, protective and passionate. He loves being a photographer and he couldn’t jump on a plane fast enough when his phone rang for an assignment, but his priorities will change after meeting Ally. Adam is perfect for Ally! He’s exactly what she needs. He would do everything for her and he looks forward to being with her forever.

Ally is friendly, caring, insecure and smart. She loves being a nurse and she works a lot. Ally doesn’t have an easy home situation. I hated her mother so much! I wished Ally didn’t do so much for her mother, but I also understood Ally. Ally becomes stronger and stronger, and Adam helped her.

I loved the way Ally and Adam met and how easily they connected. There was banter and an instant attraction. It didn’t take long before they were inseparable. They fell hard for each other. Ally and Adam are a beautiful, perfect and strong couple. The epilogue was beautiful.

The author never writes many secondary characters, but I always love them. I absolutely adored Elena in this book. She’s a loving, fun, caring and old woman. Ally and Elena are tight. I love what Elena does for Ally. Elena immediately likes Adam and they have a great friendship. Ally, Adam and Elena always have an amazing, fun time together.

Melanie Moreland wrote (again) a sweet, unique, touching, beautiful and romantic story that I highly recommend. Reading this book makes me want to reread one of her other books. I loved every single one of them. I know I’ll reread this book one day. Melanie is one of favorite authors ever and I always count down the days until her next release.

ARC requested through Netgalley, and kindly provided by Random House Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.

“Ally, it’s me.” My voice broke. “Please, baby. Please don’t leave. Stay with me. You’re my Nightingale.”

This was a lovely story. This will be a difficult review to write because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. The book blurb really doesn’t do the story justice.

The story started out with a tease of the couple being separated but not knowing why. Luckily, the author did not take us on an annoying trip back and forth through time. (my least favourite storytelling) Instead, we went back to the beginning and started with a great “meet cute” for the couple.

Adam Kincaid, a daredevil photographer, had a chance encounter with Ally Robbins, a nurse. Their chemistry came pouring through the pages and I instantly liked both of them. I kept trying to figure out what conflict was going to present itself but I was continually wrong in trying to guess each wrinkle in Adam and Ally’s story as it progressed.

“You’re not a serial killer, are you?”
I arched my eyebrow. “As if I’d admit that when you were falling into my trap so easily?”

Some might argue that things developed quickly between these two, but I was right there, along for the ride and loving every minute of it. I totally bought into their instant connection, particularly as each of their histories came to light. I have only read one other Melanie Moreland book, but I am seeing a pattern in her rich, troubled histories with her heroes and heroines. Ally’s, in particular, was quite powerful and really shaped where the story went.

“I wasn’t going to come back.”
“I figured that out, but you did.” I took a deep swallow of my wine. I needed to know. “Why?”
“I couldn’t— I couldn’t stay away,” she admitted.”

Adam’s quest to “win Ally back” was so incredibly sweet and caring. I couldn’t believe how well he dealt with the unique and bizarre situation. I kept applauding how he handled Ally, with such restraint and love, always putting her well being first. Though the “situation” that pulled them apart was very surreal, I couldn’t care less. I was just happy to watch it all come together.

Loved this story!

Adam is 33 years old and a pretty famous photographer.
His last shoot landed him in a Toronto hospital, after almost falling down a roof!
Enter Alex. She's the nurse he wakes up to. And it's insta-attraction on both sides.
But Alex has a very difficult life. She pretty much does what her mom and her step-dad tell her to do - because she feels guilty for something that happened over ten years ago - something that wasn't her fault at all. But they still run her life! Alex is trying his best to make her understand that it wasn't her fault, and that she needs to start living her own life again - preferably with him.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH ALEX & ADAM?
WILL THERE BE A HEA??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺

description

OY! That was so heartbreakingly beautiful.

I kinda already started crying in the prologue. It all seems so impossible for poor Adam and Alex.
Poor Alex! Ugh, her parents! I wanted to jump into the book and slap the sh*t out of them!

description

The book is told from Adam's POV (Alex gets a few little chapters towards the end). The first part of the book is where they meet and fall for each other. And the second part (well, more like the last 40%) ... well, without spoiling too much for you - the second part is Adam trying to get Alex back and fighting against her idiot parents to get their HEA.

There was a very moving and sad mood throughout the whole book. But the moments Alex and Adam had together were so sweet and romantic and sexy and full of love and hope.

"I only met you a couple days ago, Ally, but I've been waiting for you all my life. Waiting for you to find me."

It was all a tiny bit insta and a bit too mushy here and there, but I really enjoyed reading it.
I couldn't stop reading actually - I had to know that Adam and Alex would win against her parents and get their happily ever after! And it takes us a long while to get to that Happy Ending! But the reader has a great time watching them fight for it!

MY IMAGE OF YOU was such a heartbreakingly moving and adorable love story! Run to your nearest amazon to find out how Alex & Adam will fight for their HEA!!!

Filled with emotion that tears the heart apart and a courage of spirit that awakens the soul. From tragedy to celebration, Moreland finds inspiration in the heartache and hope on the horizon. Adam and Ally make every teardrop worth getting to the smile in the end.

“She needed someone to protect her.
That someone was me.”

My Image of You is the first story I have read by Melanie Moreland. When I read the synopsis all those month ago I knew this was something I wanted to get on board with. In the end though, it was just ok for me. I did find parts really enjoyable and found it engaging at some spots, particularly the start and the end, but as an all-round story I just found it dragged a bit and I lost interest in parts. Having said that, the ending I loved; it was insanely good. Any readers who love their second chance romance trope should give this one a go.

Adam is a dare devil photographer, who jet sets around the world in search of the perfect story and snap shot. He has no issues risking his life for the perfect photo and this is where the story begins…

“Her giggle made me happy, her kiss was filled with warmth, her touch love personified. She was mine.”

Adam has a serious accident and injures himself badly while on location in Toronto and has to be rushed to hospital. There he meets a beautiful nurse, Alexandra “Ally” Robbins and she soon becomes his very own Florence Nightingale.

There was an insta-connection and chemistry between both Adam and Ally and they both fell hard. Ally soon consumes Adam’s every thought and he wants to know everything about her and protect her for the rest of his life. Things unfortunately don’t always work out as planned and circumstances pull the two apart. I’m not going to go into too much detail as to not reveal any spoilers, but some aspects of the story surprised me and I actually didn’t see coming.

“I only met you a couple of days ago, Ally, but I’ve been waiting for you all my life. Waiting for you to find me.”

While I didn’t LOVE the story as much as I had hoped to, I still found it somewhat enjoyable, romantic and definitely pulled at my heart strings. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves second chance romances and even though overall I’m rating it 3.5 stars, the ending on its own is worth a solid 5 in my opinion.

If you love steamy insta-spark romances, where true love never dies, even though their relationship is tested, then READ THIS BOOK. Melanie Moreland can go from dark and dirty to sweet and spicy in a heartbeat with her range of writing styles, and The Image of You is definitely one that will pull at your heartstrings.

From their very first meeting, Adam was smitten by the very beautiful and polished Alexandra whom he affectionately called his “Nightingale.” I loved that they met by chance while he was in the hospital and she was his nurse, and that they had an instant connection. Sometimes fate just pulls two soul mates together and that is what happens as these two try to get to know each other but outside forces get in the way.

They had it all, and then lost it all, but the heart always remembers and the author goes into great detail regarding their relationship and how it unfolded, and how her upbringing affect her as an adult. It was very emotional at times, but Adam protected her with everything he had. I loved how they could communicate openly from the very beginning and how she felt safe and loved for the first time in her life.

Adam was all alpha when he needed to be and was a talented photographer who traveled the world. As a nurse, she dedicated her career to helping others, and was so caring and sweet but emotionally scarred and you will just route for her to get her HEA the entire time. She is strong and resilient and I admired how she wasn’t afraid to reach out to Adam for emotional support when she needed him.

You would have to wait long to get to the meat of the story, as the author will tell you upfront in the prologue what to expect, and if you’re like me, you will keep on reading waiting for the resolution because this is a romance after all. And don’t worry, Melanie, as always writes the swooniest endings and is never scarce with her epilogues. They are to me, the best part of the book!

The Image of You is a total standalone told in dual points of view with all the feels.

This book!! I am so in love with Adam and Ally. They're just so damn adorable 🥰
Talk about an emotional rollercoaster though. I started off feeling all the ooey gooey goodness and then I cried and cried some more 😭 Then I got angry...like REALLY angry...and then I cried some more 🤣 Thank goodness I knew there would be a HEA (DUH, it's a Melanie book!!), or I may have had an emotional meltdown!
If you haven't read this book previously, you definitely need to read it now!

Edited for 2022 edition…
This story has so much angst!! I loved all of the additions to the story that I read years ago. Adam and Ally have the most heartbreaking but hopeful story.

Original review…
This audio was fantastic! I was so engaged in the story and when the twist came, I was glued to my Kindle and couldn't stop. This book had quite a bit of angst but it also made me laugh a ton.

This is definitely an emotional story. I really enjoyed reading this one. Melanie did it again, her hero and heroine had me falling in love with both of them in a snap. I really loved how Ally fall in love with Adam and how Adam was crazy for her. I love their love story so much, I suffered with both of them and I felt all their happiness when they where reunited again. Seeing Adam determined to make her falling for him again was so good and was everything I wanted for them. Their HEA was perfection.

I loved this book it was a bit of a tear jerker in parts but it all added to the book. It is a love lost and then found again with a really selfish horrible mother that very nearly split them up, if Adam wasn't so persistent in finding out what had happened she may have succeeded but as they say all's well that ends well

Four and a half stars

The Image of You by Melanie Moreland is a heart wrenching story of love and loss and hope and promise.

Adam Kincaid and Alexandra Robbins meet when he’s admitted to the hospital she’s working at after a fall. A renowned photographer, Adam knows what he wants and Ally, his Nightingale, is his heart’s desire. But while a competent and compassionate nurse at the hospital, Ally struggles to find the strength to stand up to her cruelly dominating mother and stepfather, who aim to keep her under their thumb.

Melanie Moreland’s story is full of passion and heat, tears and agony, and vengeance and forgiveness and the sweet satisfaction of enduring love. Adam and Ally fight hard to find their happiness, and it’s a journey worth reading.

I was an emotional wreck after reading this story! We all remember our first true love. How we work at making the relationship work. The give and take - the good and the bad. This book is more than a second chance romance....it's a story of love, true love. It's a story of resilience and faith, a story of hope and love, a story of an emotional reunion of souls that are destined to be together. Loved it!!❤️❤️

The Image of You
By Melanie Moreland

I heard music when I started reading The Image of You…I know strange right. It was the perfect music for this story, this story that is truly an epic love story that draws you in, makes you smile, makes you frown, has tears running down your cheeks and makes you want to hurt someone. This story is about ever lasting love.

Our emotions will feel raw at times; but Alex and Adam will fight and we readers are with them every step of the way.

An epic love story gives us happy times, sad times, the attitudes we see/read and the fact that the hero and heroine can just “be” with each other. When you add in that the strong emotional/physical connection between them that just enhances their story.

This is Ally and Adam; they found each other when the odds were stacked against them. They each brought something special to this relationship and I think in a way they both knew that no matter what happened they would always find each other.

Author Melanie Moreland has taken this previously published story and worked her magic to give readers the story she always wanted us to have. It’s not often readers are sent into a story knowing that the worst may have happened but the Kismet that brought Adam and Alex together is what makes them fighters to the end.

The Image of You has found its place in my top reads of 2022!

Bring your tissues, remember to cross your fingers and be prepared to support Alex and Adam as they fight for their love…their everlasting love.

I remember reading the first edition of this novel by the remarkable Melanie Moreland and absolutely adored everything about it. At that time she was a new author to me as I had just finished reading Over the Fence and I couldn’t get enough of her words. At the time I didn’t think this story needed any embellishment or added content, but naturally Ms. Moreland does what she does so well – she added content making this a full-length novel and quite possibly made it even better – I don’t know how! I remember it being an emotionally intense read so I went into this with my eyes open and I still cried, my heart still broke and I still became 100% invested in Adam and Ally’s love story. Again, Ms. Moreland knows how to write stories that take your breath away while at the same time making you feel like you’ve just been hugged. Back in 2017 I said their story touched me so deeply because it was so beautifully written and because I believe in soul mates. Well, I’m saying it again – you must read this edition of The Image of You! You’ll be sorry if you don’t.

PERFECT IMAGING

This book was previously released several years ago as My Image of You but has had extra content added to make this a fuller and more complex novel. Adam is Alex's soulmate who she meets unexpectedly after an accident. He is a photographer and she is a nurse. He shows her unconditional love, which she only got from her best friend Emma and her godmother Elena. When a catastrophic accident happens, Adam and Alex (Ally) have insurmountable odds to overcome to find their HEA. I love the duel POVs so we have insight into both Adam and Ally's hearts. This was SUCH a sweet love story with enough angst to make you bite your nails and make the ending that much richer.

I always look forward to reading all of Melanie Moreland’s books and this one was just as captivating! Although I never read the original published version of this book, I can say that this story is emotional and will take you on an incredibly heartbreakingly beautiful journey. They’re not enough stars for this. All the feels that Melanie puts oh through. However through perseverance along with all the feels there is a happy ending. To get to the happy ending Ally and Adam have to go through some loss as well as an accident. Ally’s so called parents manipulated Ally after the accident occurred and she had some memory loss. Adam finds this out through Ally’s best friend and in the end he gets his one true love back.

Adam is injured when he falls while taking a risky shot with his camera. Despite his injury, he manages to spend the night in the hospital getting to know his attractive nurse better. Ally has some pretty heavy baggage she’s carried all of her life but her time with Adam lightens the load and helps her to see she is worthy of happiness and love. Together this couple face some extreme conflicts that tore my heart in two.

While I really enjoyed this book, so much of it is the author telling me about what happened instead of allowing me the opportunity to experience it. It was well written and didn’t get bogged down but there were times I just wanted to be able to walk in the characters shoes. There is plenty of light hearted humor and this couple have great chemistry together. Secondary characters don’t really shine too much but seem to be just a way to progress the story along without allowing the reader to connect with them in any way. The villains are certainly villainous and I totally understood why Ally struggled in the way she did, so those particular characters I must admit were well written.

Overall, this was a very nice read by an author I would gladly read again.

I was provided this advanced copy and this is my honest review.

Mostly the heroes POV although there is a few from the heroine

How can a few stitches to a head end up with a soulmate you cannot live without. Adam is a photographer who brings to life the tragedy of natural disasters and war. Ally is a nurse who has had no love and support from her family. When this unlikely duo meet in the ER, Adam finally feels he has someone to come home to, but Ally's family tries to tear them apart. This emotional story had me going from laughter to tears and even had to put the book down. From the angst, lies, deceit and hatred from Ally's parents it was a wonder they both found their true loves. An awesome story that I highly recommend.

This is the book you are looking for!

Five years ago I read this amazing book by Melanie Moreland and fell in love with Alex and Adam. I'm not exaggerating when I say this book has stayed in my head (and heart!) for all those years. I've reread it many times (especially the end-swoon!). So when Melanie Moreland announced that she was re-releasing it, I thought there was no way this new version could be better than the first. I was wrong. Now I love Alex and Adam even more and she has ensured that they will stay with me for many, many more years.

Stop scrolling. This is the book you want to read.

The Image of You is another great story written by Melanie Moreland. It is a combination of a swoony hero, sweet heroine, off-the-charts chemistry, and so much love. There are so many emotions you will feel throughout the pages of this book that my heart was working in overdrive. It was bursting with joy as the Adam and Ally found love but endured such heartache when the pair lost their way. This is a soul-stirring story of love, heartache, and second-chances. And in true Melanie Moreland fashion, the author doesn’t disappoint and delivered the hea I longed for as the story progressed. You will hate to love and love to hate some of the secondary characters but they shaped the story despite some of the not so nice words I have for a specific character. This one is truly heartbreakingly beautiful and I highly recommend this read.

Adam is the photographer who will take any risk to get the perfect picture and that is how his latest escapade has landed him in the hospital under the care of Alex his sexy nurse.

Alex has everything money can buy however due to a tragic incident ten years ago she has spent every day since then trying to make amends to her mother for something that wasn’t her fault.

From the moment he met Alex his feelings for her were something he had never felt before and he knew that they belonged together but their journey is not without its complications as not everyone is happy they are together. When they are torn apart Adam will do whatever is necessary to prove to Alex that they are soulmates but will she agree?

Adam is protective, loyal and oh so swoony and he isn't about to let anyone or anything stand in the way of the life that he and Alex are destined to live.

You best be prepared because your heartstrings are going to get a workout. Adam and Ally's romance takes you on an epic ride filled with sweetness and intensity, poignancy and swoon, and anger and heartache. The skillfully crafted blend of drama and twists quickly pulls you into the story, while the raw emotions and feels have you eagerly turning those pages. Trust me when I say that this book is going to have you feeling all the feels and desperately wanting to give some people a really hard smack! I am volitionally posting a frank review.

Wow I forgot Adam and Ally's story was so good. Adam and Ally meet under odd circumstances, he falls gets injured and ends up in the hospital, Ally is the nurse that takes care of him. Adam feels and instant connection to Ally. They were happy until one day a mysterious text and call change everything. When others put their beliefs and wants before what is suppose to happen fate steps in and rights wrongs that others created. True love really that is meant to be will be no matter what.
