A wonderful book about the Psalm 23 The Lord is My Shepard. Less than 100 pages and 90 English translations. This would be a wonderful gift to your Bible Study Group or to someone hurting. I was so happy to receive a free copy from the publisher

This is everything I want to see in biblical texts - a comparative of several translations (including many I’ve never heard of) that doesn’t push you into one line of thinking over an other - simply the Word speaking to people in as many different ways and styles as possible in order to be personable and relatable to all - and in doing so, making it easier to understand the most vital portions and understandings of the text as a whole.

If I were to make any suggestion, it would be the questions at the end of the book. While these could easily serve as a guide for group settings, reading this on my own, I found myself flipping back and wishing some of these were sprinkled throughout the translations for me to think on as I was reading and trying to understand the variations.

Disclaimer - I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for this honest and unbiased review.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
What an interesting book.
I’ve only read a few of the Bible translations shared in this book, and I always go back to the King James Version.
Now I see why.
So much is lost in some of the translations.
Mercy is such a blessed concept, yet the word is often changed to kindness.
Dwelling in the house of the Lord forever is such a promise, but this too is lost in some translations.

I did enjoy reading them all, and finding wordings that were very comforting to me.
I lack nothing…..

This book would be a great comfort to those going thru an especially difficult time.

This was a fun study in Bible verses. I thought it was really interesting to be able to compare the different wordings of Psalm 23 side by side, and think of how it influences how we interpret the Bible.

Having 90 translations side by side is great for an in-depth study of the Word. If I had to provide some constructive criticisms, I would say that I would have loved to see more context for the different translations. Most of these translations are foreign to me and I would love to see a small amount of info as to when and where they were written. This could help in understanding the differences in word choice while also providing some historical context.
Additionally, in the epilogue, the compiler shares which translation is their favorite, but they do not expound on why. It would be nice to see some more input here. For example, I could say that the New King James translation is my favorite because of how well known and iconic it is. Even non-religious people are familiar with this particular translation of the Psalm.
One thing that is great in this book is the inclusion of some excellent discussion questions in the back. This is great for both individual and group studies.

90 English Translations of Psalms 23 compiled by Michael Dow is a wonderful resource to have on your bookshelf. Psalms 23 is a psalm that has provided inspiration to million, if not billions, of souls through the generations since written. What Dow has done is placed all of the many different variations and translations of this Psalm into one easy to read book.

This book allows you to see the nuances of each translation and explore the word differences to gain new meaning from each verse. Many books have been written on this chapter, but here Dow allows the words of this chapter to speak in 90 different ways.

I love looking at the minor difference between different translations of The Bible. Personally, I liked thinking about the difference between "I shall not want" and "I lack nothing". Having all the translations back to back is super convenient and good for all Christians, especially those fans of this Psalm.

The simplicity and purity of this compilation makes it perfect for personal or group Bible study. I have enjoyed reading it with my 8 year old and discussing the differences we’ve noticed in each translation. God’s word, pure and holy, teaches us the deep things of who He is, even in the simple study of His Word alone. I am thankful to have received this book for review from the publisher.
