FREE Download with Kindle Unlimited! Society belle Sybil Webb is certain she is destined for something better than the social scene of Boston. Desperate to find a way out from under the thumb of her upwardly mobile father, she answers a newspaper advert for a Mail Order Bride – and a month later takes the long, exhausting journey to Fielder’s Union, Arkansas.
But escaping Boston was the easy part of Sybil’s adventure. Her intended groom, Dr. Henry Miller, is not what he appeared to be. Alone in a strange town, Sybil takes shelter with the friendly Frost family, where she finds herself challenged by – and undeniably drawn to – the Frost’s cousin, Brian Smith, a handsome, forthright man embittered by lost love. Can Sybil solve the mystery of her missing husband-to-be? Is she destined to be a society belle again, the wife of a small-town doctor, or the wife of the captivating cousin on the Frost ranch?
Susannah Calloway loves everything Western! And if a delightful romance is thrown into the mix, ahhh!, even better!
Susannah has always been intrigued with the Western movement - prairie days, mail-order brides, the gold rush, frontier life! As a writer, she's excited to combine her love of story with her love of all that is Western.
Presently, Susannah lives in Wyoming with her hubby and their three amazing children. (Her little cowpokes!) The whole family enjoys riding and grooming their four horses! (Belter is Susannah's favorite!)
This was a sweet story of disappointment turned into love. Sybil is overwhelmed when the man she is supposed to marry is nowhere to be found. Brian is devastated by the injury that has left him with a limp and disillusioned by his past experience with his bride's disappearance just before their wedding. But God has plans they don't know about in the beginning of the story. I enjoyed seeing the romance blossom. I would have liked a little more information about who the man was who left Sybil in the lurch and why he had done such a thing.
So pleased that this author always keeps her books sweet and clean!
This was a good book to listen to. The narration by Ms. Weaver was great. I always enjoy her talent!
I requested this audio book from the narrator and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I listened to the audiobook of this story. The narrator, Colleen Weaver is a joy to listen to. The story starts out with Sybil, leaving Boston to become a mail order bride in Arkansas, to a doctor. When she arrives, no one is there to meet her. What does she do now, she doesn't have enough money to eat or get a room. She is befriended by another lady from Boston. She is taken to her farm, where she meets Brian. Now Brian is mad at the world and eventually comes around when he meets Sybil. I was given a copy of this book by the narrator for an honest review.
Sybil is a high society girl from Boston. She escapes an unwanted marriage by becoming a mail order bride for a Dr Henry Miller. However, when she arrives, she comes to learn that no one knows of such a man.
Brian Smith is a crippled cousin of Spencer Frost. His heart is shattered and shuttered due to a woman he had loved ended up leaving him after his accident. When he lays eyes on Sybil, the walls around his heart start to crumble.
Sybil is from Boston Mass. she has been writing to a doctor in Fielders Union Arkansas. When she arrives there the doctor doesn’t show up. She is befriended by Georgiana who is married to Spencer Frost . Sybil is invited to their home while the sheriff investigates Henry Miller? Read and enjoy, I did!!!!!!
I listened to this one on audio. This was a nice short book. I thought it could be longer, but still thought it was great. I liked the characters and look forward to seeing them in more of the series.
This story was interesting about a young lady traveling to Boston to find her true love, a When she arrived, he did not meet her and she was alone. A lady came along and rescued her.
Not all Mail Order Brides find their true husbands. Unfortunately some are left at their final destinations with nothing. Sybil was lucky enough to be taken in by a kind family.
Sweet short story. Sybil is tricked, thinking she has answered a mail-order bride ad to get away from her father’s plans for her. Brian is bitter because his fiancé left him after he was severely injured. The Frost Family takes them in. Can love overcome the obstacles? I enjoyed the story.
5 stars for the book. 4 for the narration. While her Boston accent is deplorable, I rather loved this quirky tale! For a short story the characters seem pretty deep too!
