This book is something I didn't know I needed and am so glad I read it. I finished this in one day. I found it so helpful with amazing tips and reminders that are easy to incorporate in your life. It was easy to follow and if you want to reread a topic, you can find what you want with no problem. This book really put some things in perspective and gave me alot to think about.

I have so many highlighted things in this book but this one really resonated with me "Feeling better is within our control".

This is a very friendly and easy to read book full of plenty of photographs and call outs. At times, it felt more like a catalogue for a stock photography site and perhaps it was a bit too full of platitudes. I also felt that it seemed directed more at retired and elderly due to its simplicity and focus on graphical representations of concepts and ideas. But in all, there was enough substance to help individuals start an important journey of finding balance and peace in life.

The book has seven chapters: Introduction, Lifestyle, Free Your Mind, Eat Well, Move your Body, Health Matters, Healthy Aging. These chapters cover issues such as stress, work/home balance, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, regrets, etc. Each discussion features one or several photographs, callouts, and very brief paragraphs. Because the book is so graphical, I would recommend choosing a hard copy (or the digital copy if use an e reader with a graphical format (e.g., use your computer to read it rather than a Kindle)).

The book is full color with plenty of colored call outs. There is a lot of psychology here: e.g., in many chapters you are asked questions about yourself (your behaviors, what you eat, etc.) that will help you tailor the book to your particular life's situation. In this way, the friendliness and personal targeting make it more useful to the reader.

It's important to note that this is a general overview type of book. You will get very brief recommendations that may make it harder to know where to start. A good example will be the discussions on moving - it'll suggest you do strength training but not really any exercises. Or, yoga will be suggested and there are several large illustrations of a couple of yoga poses to try out - but you'll need to research further yourself for a more comprehensive routine. This brevity of topic discussion is understandable by the authors in order to keep the book manageable. But to me, it felt like too many of the topics were just skimmed.

Admittedly, I really prefer more in-depth discussions rather than a survey course of wellness with lots of pretty stock photos. But I think many will be able to use this as a starting place to finding a more meaningful and balanced life. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

An excellent jumping-off point for holistic wellness.

Includes (limited) resources about different styles of diets and self-care including recipes, exercises, breathwork, mental health and more.

Hinsbergh really works to make self-care accessible in this richly illustrated tome, breaking each aspect of wellness into its own correlating chapter. Lifestyle, mental health, diets, exercise, health and aging. Each cites several sources and offers actionable steps to include it in your wellness journey.

My main complaint would be that in collecting information, the author ends up including several contradictory ideas, especially in the chapter about dieting. While I understand that she is working to present each concept in its integrity, it could provide conflict for anyone choosing to use this manual as instruction rather than an introduction to various concepts that may or may not work for them.

Definitely a well-collected guide, but not something I will find myself referencing for anything other than recipes and the occasional exercise.
