Angels of Death: Murderous Medics, Nefarious Nurses and Killer Carers

Rate this book
Medics and carers hold the lives of their patients in the balance. They see us at our most vulnerable, and we trust them utterly. Yet there are those who abuse this trust in the medical profession and take advantage of their position to commit the most hideous crimes.

In this gripping account, readers can discover the chilling stories of these cold-hearted killers. Some kill because of a twisted sense of mercy. Others let their monstrous egos take over as they seek to prove themselves the hero by rescuing those they harmed themselves. And then there are those who simply delight in the power over life and death. Whatever their motivation, these killers can go undetected for years, racking up huge body counts before they are finally discovered.

Contains 35 atrocious cases,
• Charles Cullen, who is believed to have killed nearly 400 people during his 16-year stint as a nurse;
• Harold Shipman, who killed as many as 200 of his patients
• Genene Jones, who kept being hired even after babies continued to die under her watch
• Donald Harvey, who murdered to 'ease the pain' of his victims.
• and many more.

Featuring unsettling images of these criminals, Angels of Death casts a light on the men and women who preyed on their own patients and their twisted motivations for doing so.

ABOUT THE The True Crime Casefiles series covers some of the most shocking crimes and notorious criminals and psychopaths of all time, without shying away from the grisly details. The narrator voice was very monotone. At times the lavk of emotion made for difficult listening. . Every case was told so matter of fact and it felt lije too many xases were covered. Some could have done with more detailed. explanation A solid repetitive listen ideal for listener's lookkng for matter of fact info.
Thank you net gallery and publisher for my arc. 3 stars

The history of each person is shockingly limited. I was gobsmacked that the entire section on someone as notorious as Josef Mengele was 2.5 pages long and only contained 2 small paragraphs of a glossed over version of the atrocities he committed.

Only providing each person a handful of pages limits the true account and proper remembrance of the victims. This felt like a rushed book with typos included.

Research was spotty and not well put together or organized. Could have put a lot more detail into each case rather than trying to cram dozens of serial killers into one book.

2.5 The author's writing could be very confusing often times. There were numerous typos. The stories were pretty good but I felt some could have had more details.

I didn't think there would be so many people who would be willing to put everything on the line for just this. Reading through these cases, it is chilling to realize how often those entrusted with the most vulnerable lives—the very people meant to provide care and healing—can so easily slip into becoming architects of destruction.

Key Takeaways:
* **The Breach of Trust:** The book does an excellent job of highlighting the extreme violation of the doctor-patient and nurse-patient relationship.
* **Psychological Insight:** It delves into the disturbing motivations behind these crimes, ranging from God complexes to Munchausen syndrome by proxy.
* **Pacing and Structure:** The casefile format makes it easy to digest, though some stories are understandably more detailed and harrowing than others.
* **Final Impression:** A sobering read that will definitely make you look at the healthcare system with a more critical eye. It is not an easy book to get through emotionally, but it is a compelling study of human darkness.

Not a bad book, just really wonkadoodle. It's not even about the few typos, but they talked about this woman that killed a few babies for like 10 pages but then Mengle, who killed 400,000 people in Nazi "experiments" gets 3 pages about how they identified his body. It literally did not talk about him in any other way.
Also, I thought the book would be all doctors and nurses that kill but a good half were baby farmers or people that own boarding houses. Basically anyone in a position of trust. The chronological order was wonky too because the book was layed out like an encyclopedia, but within each person's story the narrative would skip around. The whole book just felt strange, although still intresting.

This was a solid, quick read. If you are interested in reading about more serial killers rather than getting into the deep history of a few, this is the book for you. This was recommended to me by a friend. It is not a book that goes into detail regarding the lives of the serial killers however, I appreciated getting to know about more individuals that I could later seek out more info on. Altogether, a solid rating.

I was just expecting more detail. I would have loved to have fewer stories but tell more of the story of each person. Quick read which I didn’t mind. Just wanted more substance!

I was done halfway through when he wrote Harvey didn’t mind being sexually abused as a youth/child because he received money.

I mean, it was stories of angels of death. Very monotone, pretty poorly written, lots of typos. Probably wouldn't have read if it weren't a gift, and definitely won't re-read.

I got this book for 10 cents at a used book sale, and that's about what I think it's worth.

A brilliant read.

Well researched and flows beautifully. The cases are fascinating, some I'd heard of, some I hadn't but all were meticulous in the telling. My only gripe was that I read it so quickly!
