The genius behind Leonardo da Vinci's artwork is introduced in this deluxe silkbound guide.
Leonardo da Vinci's desire for accuracy and realism in his work drove him to take an almost forensic approach to recording the world around him, and to produce an enormous number of paintings, drawings, plans and diagrams.
Selected from the entire range of Leonardo's finest drawings, this book presents a comprehensive and inspiring collection that is testament to Leonardo's accurate eye and unfailing hand, showcased with breathtaking full-color images.
Once you have studied these images you will begin to understand why Leonardo believed the eye was the perfect instrument for absorbing all the laws of nature, and that the artist was the perfect instrument for their expression.
Barrington Barber originally worked in advertising and television as designer and art director. Then taught at Ealing Art School. Then practiced as a freelance designer, illustrator, painter at Augustine Studios. He was Head of Art at St James’s Independent Schools. Author and illustrator of Fundamentals of Drawing and about 20 other books for Arcturus Publishing. Now paints, draws and writes about art.
Very interesting insight into one of my favorite artist's mind and processes. Most were unknown to me previously, sketches and chalk drawings that I enjoyed learning about. I would say that this is more for those interested in learning about art pieces and what an artist was expressing when doing it than just a for-fun-read.
good intro, easy to finish. Author interprets some of the symbolic imagery in surface level ways that don't really go deep and miss key things. However I don't really think he did a bad job because he mostly sticks to describing the imagery instead of the symbology. Just be careful and interpret on your own as well because theres more to the images than meets the eye or is described by the accompanying text.
Leonardo da Vinci might’ve been the coolest dude alive. Need to read more about him from a more objective lens though. He seems TOO perfect here. The crosshatching was insane and this made me want to get back into sketching.
