First of all thr misogyny and double standards in this book are through the roof. I really have no idea how a man has that little respect for women.
So let’s get started shall we?
But first to understand the premise:
Basically a few years ago Con (male love interest) gave his girlfriend Will 2000$ to abort their child after she told him she was pregnant. She didn’t want to get an abortion but went to get one for him only to find out she was too far along to get an abortion.
She then proceeded to go home and got beaten by her dad and they thought they killed her baby and that she then later died as well…
1. Cal switched his wife’s birth control for fertility pills without her knowing. SHE STILL DOES NOT KNOW AND THINKS HE KNOCKED HER UP WHILE ON BIRTHCONTROL
a) quote from 50%:
“Cal knocked me up while I was on the pill.” She exhales for effect.
My eyes bug out. “No way?!”
“I know, right?! What are the chances?”
b) quote from the beginning:
Oscar tells Cal how unhappy he is about the fact he swapped Lily’s pill for fertility drugs. Of course, Cal puts him in line and tells him under no circumstances is she to find out.
WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?????
2. Will (the Girl) is wearing a shirt that “belongs” to a man (probably her ex husband who btw is the best thing in this book) AND CON (the love interest) RIPS IT FROM HER BODY BECAUSE IT IS FROM ANOTHER MAN???????
but then not even 2 minutes before a woman in just underwear walked into their apartment for her weekly session with Con.
AND SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE MAD AT HIM????

I don't understand how the h can forgive the H for telling her to get an abortion. Gasp! She reconciles with the H after 5yrs when he sees her accidentally. The H didn't even try to find the h all these years and whored around. And all of a sudden he is possessive when he finds out that she didn't abort his kid and is a dad.

As the series name suggests, there are no shortage of secrets or lies within the O’Connell family. And Con is no exception. While his family was surprised at the breakup between he and Will, no one questioned it. When fate throws them back together, their lives will be indelibly changed. Con must finally slay his demons and Will must make a conscious choice to grant forgiveness.
I'm really loving this family and how they are different from most of the other mafia/crime families I've read about. Despite running a criminal empire, all the men are a bit more teddy bear than typically found and it's a nice change of pace.

It wasn't just the paying off a teen girl to get an abortion and abandoning her so he could fuck around. It was also everyone ganging up on her, including ex husband, to force her to go stay with the man who treated her like shit. Con wasn't likeable at all and his brothers barely give him shit for what he did. Nah, not for me. Hope Finn's book is better.

OMG, everything about this was bad.
The “plot”!? Made no sense.
The hero, an absolute POS. I say this from the bottom of my heart.
The heroine, another ditz who thinks she’s a hardass but the only thing she can think of is getting it on with the hero who as I said before is a POS.
Their past history!? Geezzzzz , wth!? Who does that?
Also, how did she “make” it with no help and resources in the past?! How did she meet her ex who is very creepy because he is so much older than her and he is a cop.
None of it makes sense. The timelines, her success, her marriage and divorce?! All in what? 4 years? During which she was little more than a child!? She was 17!

This book will have your cheeks tear stained, your heart full and your panties.....🥵💦
Con is a whole different level to Cal book 1 in the secrets and lies series. A rollercoaster ride of angst passion and heart ache from the first page. Also filled with so many uplifting belly laughing moments you wont want to put it down. Seeing and feeling Cons struggles and battle with himself makes me want to dive in the book and hug him, but then sometimes throttle him for his stubborn ways. Will is shown as such a strong survivor, to have gone through all she did and still make her way back to Con and endure all they do makes her a firm favourite of mine. The O'Connells are an epic family, honestly some of the most heart warming moments are from their interactions with each other as a family. BJ Alpha truly brings every emotion to life which will leave you dying for the next book.

Second chance romance with sweet baby (4 yo). Con is OTT j/p and adores Will (Willowmena). Book was steamy (4/5). Author did a great job depicting the characters’ personalities, particularly what I would consider mob family guy swagger. Backdrop was Irish mob family of lots of brothers of varying behaviors, brawny, dominant father and loving mother.
Easy read, great plot, poignant at times, romantic, medium to fast pace. Dual pov. Some editing errors throughout. Will read more in this world.

not worth it.
Dnf. Willow aka will is one of the weakest MF characters I’ve read in awhile and Conner (con) has way too many issues to sort out. He’s high as a kite and she still doesn’t put her kid first by taking him out of there. Not to mention they were barely in his house before she slept with him. Doormat female characters aren’t something I enjoy reading.

Just wow!! Almost 5 years ago, Con suffered a tragic loss and in his grief lashed out and lost the most important person to him. A chance encounter with Con's brother brings Will back into Con's life and now he's going to work hard to prove to her he can be there for both her AND the secret she was keeping from him. Despite his commitment, Con has still not worked through the trauma of his past and with threats from Will's past looming as well, Con needs to be strong enough to know he deserves their happy ending.
This story really is fabulous! I've read all of BJ's books, but I truly think her writing has gone next level with Con. I laughed, I cried, and it totally left me with all the warm fuzzies. The storyline is fantastic. It is fast paced, has tons of action, and totally kept my interest the whole way through. The character development is wonderful. You fall in love with Will, Con, and their son and all Con's crazy family members - even his psycho dad, lol. Con and Will have fantastic chemistry and despite their turbulent relationship, you want them to succeed. Con steps into topics about the toxicity of unresolved trauma and unhealthy coping mechanisms and BJ handled them well. Like I said, next level :) Really enjoyed this one and can't wait for Finn's story!

I absolutely devoured this book in one go! I loved it from start to finish...and to be honest, I'm going to reread it as it has left me with a serious book hangover!

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves spicy, dark romance!

The worst hero ever. He leaves his son’s party to take his ex-junkie girlfriend to rehab. He also allowed his 4 year old son, who has a severe nut allergy, to pick his own candy which contained nuts while he spoke to his ex- junkie girlfriend. He did about 50 other awful things.
So did end up in the hospital from eating candy.

JP H/ depressed, PTSD, anxiety H/ surprise baby/ second chance
Man.. this was hard to rate I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do a 2 or 3. And I may put it at 3 but for now, 2.5 ⭐️. This was a decent little JP H read. The H has good jealous rage-y moments, there were cute little kids and cool side characters. The story just felt like I was missing things and some stuff made no sense. Now I did not read book 1. I thought this was a stand alone but maybe it’s not and I liked it enough to go read book 1 bc I wanna read about Cal. He seems even more riled up than Con lol. 😂😂

He never saw her after that. She had the baby and bc of many reasons she doesn’t tell him or make it public knowledge.
-H has mental health issues/ trauma…. This H was alpha but not. Does that make sense? Normally I don’t do weak men. It’s not sexy to me but Conner was just… broken 🤷🏻♀️ I mean I just hurt for him. He KNEW what he said to willow was wrong about getting the abortion and even though he’s regretted it and he never stopped loving and wanting her. He never looked for her bc he knew she was better without a low like like him. He saw his younger brother die, in his arms bc of a choice he made with willow. He lives with soooooo much guilt and pain and no one sees it. To his family he’s just the fuck up. Parties to much, women, drugs, alcohol. But he’s really trying to numb his pain bc he’s suffering and no one knows and he’s not gotten any help. So there’s so many times he’s watery eyed, he’s desperately pleading with willow, he’s saying he can’t do it without her and this didn’t bother me bc it felt sooooo real. 🥺

But he really doesn’t lol)) 😂 (3) OW3 is someone he used to do drugs and party with before h (cause he tryna be better ya know?) shows up while he’s with his kid getting treats, she’s all like I need help lalala. He’s tryna do the right thing and says he will help her. But man it’s a shitty situation and when you read you’ll know what I mean. Nothing happens he literally takes her to rehab bc he’s trying to do the right thing.

Man.. this was hard to rate I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do a 2 or 3. And I may put it at 3 but for now, 2.5 ⭐️. This was a decent little JP H read. The H has good jealous rage-y moments, there were cute little kids and cool side characters. The story just felt like I was missing things and some stuff made no sense. Now I did not read book 1. I thought this was a stand alone but maybe it’s not and I liked it enough to go read book 1 bc I wanna read about Cal. He seems even more riled up than Con lol. 😂😂

He never saw her after that. She had the baby and bc of many reasons she doesn’t tell him or make it public knowledge.
-H has mental health issues/ trauma…. This H was alpha but not. Does that make sense? Normally I don’t do weak men. It’s not sexy to me but Conner was just… broken 🤷🏻♀️ I mean I just hurt for him. He KNEW what he said to willow was wrong about getting the abortion and even though he’s regretted it and he never stopped loving and wanting her. He never looked for her bc he knew she was better without a low like like him. He saw his younger brother die, in his arms bc of a choice he made with willow. He lives with soooooo much guilt and pain and no one sees it. To his family he’s just the fuck up. Parties to much, women, drugs, alcohol. But he’s really trying to numb his pain bc he’s suffering and no one knows and he’s not gotten any help. So there’s so many times he’s watery eyed, he’s desperately pleading with willow, he’s saying he can’t do it without her and this didn’t bother me bc it felt sooooo real. 🥺

A man consumed by with guilt and unable to see the joys in life. He's numb and trying to disconnect from the pain. He wants to connect with others, be loved, supported and accepted for all that he is, human, sensitive and flawed. My heart was broken into a million pieces with room for healing. I haven felt this much pain and cried for a character in a long time. Thank you BJ Alpha for pulling at my heart strings.
A true depection of family life from the love, banter between brothers, cultural expectations, forgiveness and pain. It centers around a mans inability to recognise how emotions are valid, deserve to be spoken and how they affect his life that doesnt recognize he needs help. This is a second chance mafia romance where we see Con and Willow reunited after years apart and what separated them as teenagers is something that no teenager should have to go through and without the support they desperately needed they each spiralled, where as Willow was able to focus her emotions and energy into something more productive Cal unfortunately came undone. But once he sees Willow again he is determined to do right by her and be the person she deserves.
I’m not going to lie I was angry with Con a lot in this book but I understood his actions as the story unfolded he witnessed something which changed his whole perspective on life and he suffered with anxiety because of it, but his method of dealing with it was unhealthy and his family didn’t realise the extent. It’s not until Willow comes back into his life does he realise he needs to up his game and change but his mental health is still not taken care of resulting in some very dark moments for Con and his family.
Although this book has a lot of dark moments we are blessed with some amazing and funny scenes when the family especially the brother’s and Reece all come together. Talking and teasing each other the way any normal family would, perfect to ease some of the darker moments.
The way BJ described Con troubles, and the horrors that Willow was subjected to, was done in a extremely delicate but also direct way, not shying away from how cruel and dark some people are in our world. Showing how especially Con’s mental health was crippling him without showing him as weak and vulnerable but also how if we allow ourselves to just talk there is always someone there to hold you and be a calming influence in your life as Willow was to Con.

This is the first time I've read a book from this author, I took a leap and joined her ARC team not knowing much about her books and I'm soooo glad I did.
Gritty, hard and keeps you on the edge, I didn't didn't know what was going to happen next. I felt like crying and screaming, felt joy and a whole load of other emotions along with the Characters.
Con is troubled, he keeps all the heartache and sadness in but eventually it comes out in the worst ways, I loved and hated him, wanted to slap and hug him.
Will has been beaten down and left to deal with it all with little help. I didn't know if she was ever going to let Con back in. She is a fantastic character.
This is book 2 and I didn't feel like not reading book 1 Cal took anything from the story but I'd say read Cal first.
I'm now reading Cal then I'll read Con again because I think it'll help me understand a few things better.
Definitely recommend this book and author 👌

I was picked as an ARC reader for this book, and oh my god was it an amazing read, I managed to smash it out on a day.
Seeing what Con went through was absolutely heartbreaking, I loved and hated him in the best way, he was flawed but he tried his best.
Reading what Con & Will both went through and how they overcame it was an emotional roller coaster but I was along for the ride in a big way!
Both of them are fantastic characters.
This is the second book in the series and I would recommend reading “Cal” first (although you don’t have to) as it sets up some points to make Con’s story a little clearer.
BJ Alpha is an amazing author and with every book of hers I read, I fall more in love with her writing style. I highly recommend her and her books, she will have you falling in love with the characters and you feel fully involved in the world she has created!

So, so I signed up for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Con and Will are both troubled people. I wanted to throttle Con for most of the book, and then throttle Will for putting up with it so well. But BJ had a lovely way of showing us why they were both like they were. Seeing Will’s backbone in the past few chapters was so wonderful—the epitome of a victim survivor.
My first read from this author and, despite not really being a mafia romance fan, I really enjoyed the book and the story.

So Con ....oh my he is hotter than the sun and the spicy scenes in this book melted my kindle .. melted. it.
his story is of lost love and regret,s heartaches and some seriously bad life choices . there is a few trigger warnings you should take heed of before you read but honestly try not let them put you off.. just be prepared .. I read this book and it was soo emotional. I cried .. alot .. there's alot more to Con than meets the eye and although there are times Con was not in my good books..to be polite.. his story really touched me !! you never know the battles people face .. no matter how pretty or well presented they are !!(get your tissues at the ready readers)
oky🥺 (wipes tears away) throughout this book there are some hilarious interactions .. if you've read book 1 .. one word for you Reece .. 🤣 yup he is back and as amazing as ever ! ..not read book 1 then your in for a treat. the comedy is there and expertly balances out the really emotional stuff.
During cons story we get more of an insight into the O'Connell clan and the family dynamic..I've got a feeling there's gonna be a whole lot more to this family than meets the eye .. and I can't wait to devour the rest of this series !!

This quote describes exactly how I felt while reading parts of CON. Con is your typical alpha but he is troubled and refusing to face his demons. Will has been put through hell but comes back stronger. I connected with Con on a deep emotional level I have never experienced with a male character before. Will’s compassion is astounding after all she has been through. Not to give anything away. 🤐
Throughout the whole book I was on my toes. I was instantly hooked and stayed up until midnight to finish reading it. My cheeks were tear stained and my abs sore from laughing so hard. This book gives you all the feels. 🖤
I would highly recommend reading CAL first as it’s A. amazing and hilarious and B. some details in CON will be clearer. This is the third book I have read by BJ Alpha and it didn’t disappoint. She is quickly becoming a new favourite. Her writing immerses you completely into her characters and world she has created. I highly recommend her books!

After reading Cal (1st book in the series)I was expecting something similar. But Con took me by surprise.
It deals with some serious issues of mental health and its super steamy.
Con was a troubled man dealing with the loss of his younger brother.He blamed himself for the death of his brother.
He was totally in love with Will but pushes her away knowing about her secret.
Con and will were explosive together.
There ware many hot scenes. The easy camaraderie between all the brothers was super entertaining.
As always I loved Reece and now Keen.
Though the author mentioned Willi's age I think I never read how old Con was.
One more think ,Con should have grovelled more .will forgave him too easily. The story moves quite fast.
Cal and lily were so cute together. It was fun so read how the rest of the brothers took Willi's side against Con and kicked his ass.
There are a few triggers so tread carefully .
On the whole a super enjoyable book.
I want to read Bren's story next ,I hope the author is thinking about it.:)

First off I absolutely LOVE how indepth & detailed each brother is. You've really managed to give each one their own completely different personalities.
Second Reece can brighten anyone's day no matter how dull it seems.
Every event within this book is perfectly written, I absolutely & throughly enjoyed every part, enjoyed it so much I have infact read this twice now.
I am now very eagerly waiting for Finn.

Raw emotions are what I felt during this book. I fell in love with Con and sometimes I felt anger towards him. Con battled not only with his mental health but drug use. He truly felt like an empty shell but hid it. Yes his brothers were there but they were completely unaware. 5 or so years ago he made the mistake of a lifetime and said some unimaginable things to the love of his life, Will. Will's story was gut-wrenching and heartbreaking with the things she went through. That girl was a true QUEEN. Now that little boy, Keen, was a breath of fresh air not only for the book characters but for me because of the heaviness of the book.

Absolutely Incredible
This book tackles so many issues that are relevant in today's world. This book had me laughing, crying and crying even harder. It's exceptionally well written and the level of detail is incredibly well researched.
Cons and Willows story takes you on a roller-coaster journey of twist, turns a turmoil. Your sides will ache and your eyes will be red.
I was completely hooked and wrapped up in this story of secrets and lies.
This author is quickly becoming a firm favourite. I can't wait to read more

Oh yeah, I’m a big sucker for that secret baby trope now. I love the world building going on in this series, how it’s setting up for future installments. I have a few theories so I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
Mental health awareness is a big thing for me so Con was a very relatable character in that aspect. He had so much growth to go through and it was nice to see it start for him. I love Will being a momma bear (like all moms should be) and not letting her feelings blind her from what’s best for Keen.

Con is entirely different from Cal. Going through trauma that happened to him years ago.
Boy he made me feel so many emotions.
Cal's construed as the fun boy, party boy and player… underneath he's anything but.
Reunited with his teenage love, he vows to protect her from her enemies.
Her coming back into his life leaves him getting shocking news from her.
This book had me feeling all sorts of ways.
Laughing in parts and then sobbing in the next.
BJ Alpha wrote this amazingly.
