Two weeks ago, all Fara wanted was to earn enough tips to pay rent. Now, she is stuck in another world, surrounded by a Team who learned to throw daggers before tying their shoes. Oh, and she can open portals to other universes with her mind. With sexy agent Hanlon being held prisoner and Barrington Park closing in, Fara knows that she can’t go home until she learns to control her new ability. She’ll need the Team’s help. But is going home what she really wants?
Two weeks ago, all Blu wanted was to restore democracy to her world. Now, she knows the threat from Jurisdiction extends beyond the boundaries of her universe. On the one hand, she has a double from a parallel universe. On the other, a double agent hiding in her own Team. To make things even more complicated, Jurisdiction’s Second Counselor, Jyston, won’t leave her alone. Is he actually trying to help, or laying an elaborate trap?
Two weeks ago, neither woman knew the other existed. Now, Blu and Fara must work together to protect the ones they love.
Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska as an only child of parents that, between the two of them, had multiple degrees and professions (including, but not limited to: FBI, Priest, and College President), was actually cooler than I thought at the time. But being a child consumed by wanderlust, I left as soon as the ink was dry on my scholarship. I made my way to New Orleans for college, which instilled in me a life-long love of the city, beignets, and being overly suspicious of hot dogs you can buy at 3am from a cart.
After learning a little bit about school, and a lot about life, I left New Orleans and made the decision to attend law school. I wanted to save the world, and being without any actual superpowers, it seemed like the best way to go about it. That hasn’t quite worked out as I planned, but one can always hope.
I started writing novels as a way to pass the time during the pandemic, and stem the creeping existential dread of approaching midlife. I found that I love writing, which (according to my sons) makes me an author with a lawyering problem. That description fits somehow. I also help a couple of non-profit organizations in my community do their thing - saving the world in my own small way.
Choice of Lightning is the sequel to Running in Parallel, so Choice of Lightning can just take off like a rocket (or a portal through a parallel universe)! This book takes you through an exciting ride of adventure, romance, deception and intrigue.
The characters are so well developed that you love them and genuinely feel their struggles. The dialog is authentic and sometimes laugh out loud funny.
I highly recommend this book for pretty much everyone. Young and old will relate to these rich characters and enjoy the excitement of the storyline.
DNF I enjoyed book 1 and was looking forward to book 2. But the female MC, Fara, was suddenly annoyingly weedy, the other characters were falling over themselves to be smoldering and sexy, and then the Gladiator/Hunger Games trials made an unwelcome appearance - all the things I don’t like in my fantasy read. What a pity.
Love this series! I feel like the characters are my friends. I'm fully invested in them. The dialog is wonderfully rich and often funny. It's not only a great sci fi read, but also an adventure and a beautiful story of the growth of a young woman. So good!!!
Loving this series!!! Looking forward to the next book. Who will Fara end up with? Is Blu falling in love? Will the team beat Jurisdiction and Dagna? I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
