This time, ghosts aren’t the only thing that’s hunting them…
Brothers Damian and Liam Sullivan are a ghost-hunting duo who aim to be the best in the business. But when the budding paranormal investigators’ first official case takes them to the summer camp they attended as kids, they quickly find themselves wrapped up in a chilling predicament that spirals into life-threatening chaos.
Plagued by a string of unexplainable gruesome deaths, the staff at the summer camp of Hollyfalls are at their wits end. Tasked with unraveling the truth behind the sinister killings, the Sullivan brothers begin to unearth an ominous secret that has been locked away in the cold tomb of history for nearly a century – and now it has been disturbed.
Hunted by a supernatural enemy and faced with the terrifying realization that something has been spying on them all along, Damian and Liam must race against time if they want to save the summer camp… and along the way, what they find will force them to dig deeper into their own forgotten past.
Can this ghost-hunting duo defeat the paranormal entity terrorizing the camp and live to see another day? Or will they fall victim to its wrath and be buried along with its secrets?
As an eerie and gruesome paranormal short story that’s not for the faint of heart, the second book in the Whisper Investigations series is a creepy tale that’s perfect for anybody who loves horror and the ghosts that lurk in the dark.
Marc Layton is the internationally bestselling horror author of The Haunting Of Bridge Manor, The Evergreen Motel and The Evil Inside. The only child of American expats, he grew up on a farm in northern Germany, went to boarding school in a remote part of Scandinavia and then returned to his familial roots for University in New Hampshire where he then settled. As an avid traveler, a voracious reader and a professional antiques dealer, Layton is never at a loss for inspiration and ever since he can remember he’s been consumed by the things that go bump in the night. Layton lives and works out of a cottage near the water in Portsmouth, NH and spends his free time hiking with his wife and trusty Australian Shepard Lily.
First of all, I want to say a big thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC. I also want to give a short disclaimer: me receiving the book for free did not influence my review at all. The author provided me with the book to get my honest opinion and that is what I have done.
This is the second book in the Whisper Investigations Trilogy, which follows brothers Damien and Liam. In this book the brothers have started their business and try to solve their first supernatural mystery after they found out what happened to their parents. They go to a lake which seems to be calling in and drowning young children. Soon Damien and Liam think they know what they're up against, but a plot twist is coming...
I really enjoyed the fast-paced horror and thrill in this short story. Layton manages to make you scared of what's coming, even though it all happens very fast. I did like the characters, but I would've liked to learn a bit more about Ed. The book ends on a cliff hanger, which makes me curious for the next installment, which I know is coming soon, so get ready to hear my thoughts on that one.
I was able to read this as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review, and honestly once again Layton has knocked it out of the park. Fun and fast paced read that left me wanting more already. To be honest I haven’t read book 1 however, I was able to follow along with the brothers story without having read book 1. I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun fast paced short read.
This story is about the first case/client brothers Liam and Damian have for their newly formed Whisper Investigations business. This time the brothers are investigating a closed down campground with a history of children going missing. I wish a little more of the story had been developed about the campground and it's past and less about dialogue between the brothers. It seems like there's a lot of build up and the "solving" and closure of the case is too quick. I would like a little more of a battle for the brother's to defeat whatever ghost or spirit they are fighting. It seems a little too easy of a conclusion. However, it is still a good story.
A short but exciting read, we are learning more about the brothers as this series continues and the new journey that they have taken. Ghost Hunting, the plot is packed with intrigue and keeps you on the edge of your seat, maybe time to hide behind the settee. I found this book to be well written and the descriptions of people and places transport you there and holding your breath with them. Excited about the next instalment, I received this arc from the author for free and I wanted to leave an honest review.
This is super creepy, which is in keeping with Layton's style. Great characters, a super scary abandoned camp (Jason, anyone?), and a cool start to the brothers' ghost hunting business. Short, scary, superb!
Please note: I was given a copy of this book and have voluntarily decided to give it this honest review.
Damian and Liam Sullivan are two brothers who decide to open up their own business, Whisper Investigations, after they were able to solve the mystery of their parents’ disappearance. Damian Sullivan handles all the business aspect of their company while Liam Sullivan uses his psychic abilities to help people with their supernatural problems. For their very first job, they are hired to solve the mysterious disappearance of over fifteen children at Camp Hollyfalls. Upon investigation, they discover these disappearances have been occurring since 1942 and that all the victims were staying in the same cabin. Once popular, the deserted campground has only one person staying there, an elderly caretaker, with a gun, who warns them to leave. The story continues with their investigation to solve the case, while avoiding getting shot by the caretaker or being dragged underwater their death by the ghost of Camp Hollyfalls. I was able to read this book, a continuation of The Hidden Graveyard Trilogy, very quickly I enjoyed it. It does end with a mysterious note left on a windshield that causes Damian and his brother Liam to visit Deliverance, Pennsylvania. I can’t wait to read it!
In this second book in this three book series, you find Liam and Damian on the road to find Eleanor and Edward the children and find out what actually happened At the lake where there was a storm .. Where were the parents when this was going on and Eleanor is trying to tell Damian to find her and Rescue her from what Nobody knows But that's where all the scary fun begins! As I said before, Read this in the daytime or you will start to have the dreams Of missing children and missing bodies! The more that the brothers investigate the worst the story becomes,And the scarier Everything Becomes. Now the 2 brothers don't know if It's a dream or are the dreams really real? Mr. Layton has a way with his words and story telling where you are actually watching and seeing what the 2 brothers are seeing and doing. As I said before make sure you read the whole series if you possibly can because you miss out on so much if you play catch-up. I'm Now off to the 3rd book In this series And make sure if you read these stories you keep the light on at night!!
Hired to investigate missing children at a summer camp, brothers Liam and Damian discover a supernatural haunting at the centre of the lake that might be about to claim two more victims...THEM!
This is a really good novella, with nice characterisation and an easy to read, but difficult to put down, style,
With a similarity to the TV Show Supernatural, this will appeal to any fans of that series plus anyone who loves a bit of supernatural activity with a bit of a twist.
Gave this story a rating of 5 stars. Liam and his brother are hunting paranormal creatures. This story was written well and kept my interest. As the brothers try to figure out what they are doing they struggle along several paths. They discover what is happening at the campground and are ready for the next job. Though short, the story keeps you reading to find out what happens.
This was a exciting one to get into so that this series could move forward. One of the favorite elements in this is also secrets. These have been buried for a long time. Damain and Liam venture there after 20 yrs since their disappearance. They now want answers so investigate they do. It will not be easy with also danger at their feet. Turn the pages to see if the secrets are let loose at all.
Received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Although this is the second instalment in this supernatural trilogy it can be read as a stand-alone. What a wonderfully creepy ghost story that has you on the edge of your seat. An action packed short story that has scares aplenty. Brilliant and can’t wait for the next adventure for Damian and Liam.
I received a gifted copy of ‘The Hidden Graveyard – Book 2’ by Marc Layton in return for my honest review.
This short story follows on from Book 1 in the series, with Damian and Liam. However now they have set up Whisper Investigations.
They have found their first case, at Camp Hollyfalls where children have been going missing since 1942.
Liam starts having dreams of a girl in a lake which is where the children went missing, so when they reach the camp, they know where they should start their investigation.
Is there something paranormal at the camp? Will Damian and Liam be able to solve the mystery before they come to any harm?
I really like the characters Damian and Liam as they bring humour to the book series, and I also like the idea of the Whisper Investigations.
I must admit I found that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first in the series and I would still like to see the characters develop more throughout the series.
There is still plenty of mystery and ghostly going on to keep you guessing throughout. Looking forward to reading Book 3.
Overall, a spooky ghost story with a few laughs with the brothers of Whisper Investigations.
I am loving the short stories series (short cause am an advid reader) 😊. I got hooked on book one the hidden graveyard now going on book three The Whisper Investigations. And as a reader I get put in the action. Thank you Marc 💗
Very good #2 in the series! Love this serous. Characters easy to get in to. Storyline was awesome. If you like mystery thrillers you’ll like Marc Layton’s series the Hidden Graveyard!
I like the depth of the characters and the real conversations between them. If you put yourself into the story as you are reading, as I do, the conversations seem very real and believable. I like this storyline and the possibility of additional books in the future is good. Seems very much like the Supernatural show series. I would like to see more background story developed. This one had a very intriguing story about the stepmother and the children and I would have liked to have read more about that and seen it pursued. Overall, I think Marc Layton is a very solid writer. I would really think about who I want my target audience to be as this reads more "young adult" then "adult" reader. I don't mean it needs more swearing or sex scenes - I just mean it could use more "novel" or "background" depth to the story rather than just transactional reading. I would suggest reading these in order so get more of the "why" these brothers are doing what they do. It's touched on in book 3, but not enough to get you into the minds of the brothers. There is so much potential here.
Another winner from Marc Layton. And it is even scarier than the first one. The horror of a detailed blood and guts story is nothing compared to the horrors created by my imagination when the entity is unseen and can chase you and can hurt you.
This a great story suitable for a young adult to a 90 year old lover of this genre. It is a quick and easy read. I like being able to read rapidly as it seems to add to the urgency or danger in the story.
I only wish that the brothers were more developed and relatable so I can tell them apart other than just that Liam is psychic and Damian is not. The lads remind me somewhat of "paranormal Hardy Boys".
This is an excellent story. I can hardly wait to read about their next investigation. I, for one, am hopeful that this author would reconsider making this series only a trilogy.
I was given an advance reader copy and I am voluntarily leaving this review
The Mystery of the camp might be solved but the hunt for what happened to their parents is heating up. I enjoyed this about to start the 3rd book. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw.
This book was better written than the first book in the trilogy. I'm not entirely sure why... the book just seemed to flow better. I loved how the main villain of the story was defeated -- very satisfying. Maybe it was the dead and missing children, or maybe it was the old caretaker of the camp, but my heart twinged a little with this story. The book could have used at least a reference to Meredith in it, though. Liam said at the end of the first book, after all that the three of them went through together, he was sure that they'd be in touch. Apparently not, though, because there was no indication of her, which seemed a bit odd considering Damian's infatuation with her. This is a series that doesn't need a love story woven into it, however, so it didn't bother me too much. Though, it does leave me wondering if she will be included in the final book -- which I can't wait for!
I have loved reading this author's books from the first one I have picked by him. This is a ghost, paranormal, horror story. It is a shorter story but it certainly packs a punch. This is one of my favorites by this author yet. A story that has twists and turns that left me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what was lurking next. This is a well written story that pulled me into the story from the beginning. I enjoyed this author's writing style as well as his attention to details that make his story entertaining and easy to read. The characters truly made the story for me and I enjoyed what they brought to the story. This is a really great story that I highly recommend.
The Hidden Graveyard: The Whisper Investigations Trilogy (Book 2)
Book 2 of the Whisper Investigations. Having been orphaned as children, Liam and Damian are now adults. They solved the mystery behind their parents’ disappearance and have decided due to Liam’s interesting ‘gift’, they are going to work to solve more ghost ‘mysteries’. So off they go to investigate the disappearance of many children over the years.
How will this one turn out? Will they solve it or will their lives come to an unfortunate end before they can? A must read for those that enjoy a quick book with a scary twist to it.
I received an advance review copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Another chapter in the life of the Sullivans brothers, Liam, and Damian, we start the story with a scary mysterious dream, and this grabbed me from the beginning, it’s a short read, but quite worthy.
This book has a definite ending, but it also leaves an open door to the next book on the series, I would advice you, to read the first book before taking this one, just to get a better knowledge of the characters and the reason why they’re putting themselves in harms way.
Fans of supernatural show will probably love this book as much as I did ^_~
Well written and interesting story of brothers adventures. Kept my attention and I'm pleased to see hints of future developments that could lead to a variety of directions. Though a short story this will keep the reader entertained as they solve a deadly puzzle and prevent future deaths. I have to admit to being an arc reader but I've no hesitation is spoiling the author's day if I feel he's not up to the job.
If you’re a fan of the TV series Supernatural, then you’re going to love this series. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, there are some statements made that do refer to Book 1. I can never seem to do things in order though, and I started with Book 2. Even so, it’s easily understandable. This is a fairly short book. However, it is non-stop action. It’s a world where witches are real and the living can interact with ghosts. So, turn the lights down low, turn off the TV and read The Hidden Graveyard.
3 1/2 stars Damien and Liam are back in this sequel to THE HIDDEN GRAVEYARD book one. Hired as paranormal investigators the brothers find themselves at an abandoned camp ground. Does not take long before the things that go bump in the night start to bump. Tight story with some chilling twists. All in all a nicely done Book 2 in the trilogy. Seems the brothers are aiming to take on the Winchester mantle. Eagerly awaiting book 3. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased review.
Brothers Liam and Damien are investigating a lake where several people have died under strange circumstances, and an especially tragic death of an 8 year old girl that occurred in 1942...but who was she? And who is that grumpy old man who wants the brothers to stop looking? Scary, spooky and oh so good. If you like frightening stories, and who doesn't, this one is definitely for you. Highly Recommended.
This was a creepy story from the first page. It had me looking in dark corners and scaring myself. LOL. Read it with the lights on. I liked how well the brothers got along, giving each other a gentle push when needed. I am looking forward to the next book. If you enjoy eerie stories that get your blood pumping, The Hidden Graveyard is a book for you. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
What an excellent addition to this series! The characters are excellent and we'll fleshed out. The world building is just amazing and sucks you right in. Plot and story line keep you gripped and reading long into the night!! Can't wait to read what this author brings us next. Highly recommend reading!!!
I received a complimentary copy and this is my honest voluntary review.
Book two of the Whisper Investigation Trilogy. This was a well written short story continuing Liam and Damien's quest to get their Whisper Investigator Inc. business up and running to help others with their paranormal problems. The books remind me of my childhood days of reading the Hardy Boys with a modern update. I enjoyed it. I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.
