First up, bestselling author Nikki Clarke tosses convention to the wind as she reimagines Sleepy Beauty from a damsel in distress into so much more in Wake The Girl.
Strange things are happening in Kansas City, a place where humans and others live in mutual awareness if not exact harmony.
Someone’s been jinxing men all over town, and the assignment falls to Detectives Rajj and Khari Phillips as the city’s top warlocks and the Kansas City Police Department’s Heads of Conjure Cases.
But the twins accidentally find themselves sidetracked with another bizarre mystery; who sealed a sleeping woman inside a drawer in the police morgue?
Why does this woman call to every fiber of their being?
What do you do when this woman calls to be kissed, and kissed passionately?
You kiss her, of course. Then your twin brother kisses her too. They don’t need another mystery to solve, but this former sleeping Beauty is more than a mystery she is an enigma from the moment she opens her eyes until they close as she melts into your embrace.
Can their new Sleeping Beauty unlock more than their hearts, but can she also help decipher the clues to the bigger case of men losing their lives?
Nikki Clarke is a poet and writer who’s always loved a good love story in books and on film. Her favorite on screen love declarations in no particular order are: Darius and Nina under the viaduct, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth in the field (Knightley and MacFadden version), and Dwayne and Whitley at the wedding. Nikki doesn’t mind a little weird (or raunch) mixed in with her romance and hopes to contribute to more happily ever afters of all shades and styles.
The bond between twins is unmatched. The bond between Rajj and Khari is like no other. They’re high Warlocks and the leaders of their coven. Both powerful on their own but together unmatched. As detectives they bring justice for paranormal and humankind. While working a case of many male deaths via magic they are drawn to their sleeping beauty. Dare they share? Could she be the one? Is this love? The lengths the villain went to in order to see her hateful plan come to fruition was eye opening. I tell you this, there’s a lot more to this story than sleeping beauty because it’s all about the twins. Loved this spin on an old classic! It was intriguing, new and fresh. Very well written. Great read!
This was definitely a very different read from my normal genres. It was fantasy with a twist that was jaw dropping. I have never encountered a read on this level. This author is amazing and definitely has a pen dipped in magic.
What is it about twins?!? Why is it sooo hot?!? This book was a fabulous, fun, and funny read. Bree is just so fun and the light and brightness of her jumps off the page. And the brothers, lord! They made me promise to get my hands in Third Street Conjure boys cause the magic Nikki has in this world was really interesting and fun. It’s the kind of all powerful that I like my magic users to have. The issues between Bree and her sister feel a little familiar but conceptually makes for a good plot. I love Nikki’s writing style. And I can’t wait to see what Shai does in book 2.
There was no character building at all. The storyline had promise but honestly it just fell flat. The brothers were so head over hills for Bree but her love seemed entirely false and fake. She didn’t even profess her heart to them until the epilogue. Relationship problems were not resolved with any type of realistic discussions, rather it was take off your clothes and resolved horizontally. I love a good steamy scene but this was kinda lame.
This pulled me in! As much as I love smut, I LOVE me a mystery that knows how to mystery! Come on clues, red herrings, and Chekhov’s guns galore! I see there are at least two more books in this series, but I’m gonna need as many fairy tales flipped as possible, especially with these all Black MCs (because I need all parties in my triads/poly relationships to be BLACK)!!!
This is an interesting retelling of snow white and I appreciate that the author didn't try to tell the exact same story with slight differences. Instead she uses a heavy dose of magic and mystical creatures unlike the disney version we are used to and of course the heroine is no celibate prude.
Nikki Clarke came through with a good, short reimagining of Sleeping Beauty. I really hesitate to think of it as Sleeping Beauty because the heroine is no wussy princess and the heroes are not vapid, stiff princes. She’s actually a strong coven mother who doesn’t need their protection but definitely wants their love.
I love a good why choose and this one was perfection. I loved that it was a slight retelling Snow White. Bree is that girl, and she was determined to get her boys and get revenge on her sister, who put her to sleep for 50 years. If you ever watched the TV show Grim, this will remind you of that show. I can't wait to dive into the next book.
Delightful read! I really enjoyed this book and learning about the magic of the characters. The twins were marvelous and I loved the instant attraction among all three. It was a short read and will have you wanting more. I’m ready for book 2!
I love these book because I the real world you never had about a woman and two men it almost a sin or deemed horrible but these book breathe life into me. It makes me want a harem lol
