After years of working abroad as a chef, Zoe returns to her home town in Spain to embark on the next step in her career: executive chef in a new hotel. She’s excited to put together a team and create a menu to die for before the hotel opens, but after meeting the building contractor, wounds from her past put a dampener on the challenge.
Marcy keeps herself busy. Apart from her day-to-day job as a contractor, she’s either working on her dream home or chasing the ladies. She’s a people pleaser; always friendly and on good terms with everyone, yet the new chef at the hotel she’s renovating can’t stand her, and she can’t figure out why.
When they meet at a pool party during a women’s only weekend, Marcy is shocked to discover she shares a brief history with Zoe. A history she’d long forgotten about.
Lise Gold is an author of lesbian romance. Her romantic attitude, enthusiasm for travel and love for feel good stories form the heartland of her writing. Born in London to a Norwegian mother and English father, and growing up between the UK, Norway, Zambia and the Netherlands, she feels at home pretty much everywhere and has an unending curiosity for new destinations. She goes by 'write what you know' and is often found in exotic locations doing research or getting inspired for her next novel.
Working as a designer for fifteen years and singing semi- professionally, Lise has always been a creative at heart. Her novels are the result of a quest for a new passion after resigning from her design job in 2018.

You don’t need to have read Welcome to Paradise to enjoy After Sunset but if you have, you already know something happened years ago between Marcy and Zoe that left the two women in very different spirits.
After years of working abroad, Zoe is back in Benidorm for her first job as an executive chef. Everything would be perfect if she didn’t have to see, almost every day, the contractor renovating the hotel. Marcy loves her life, her job, her family, her one-night stands. She can’t figure out with the new chef seems to hate her though…
After Sunset is an enemies-to-lovers with a dash of workplace and a pinch of second-chance romance (insofar as one time long ago can qualify as first chance). And a pretty special cat.
While I enjoyed both this book and the previous one, this series isn’t as exciting for me as the Compass books (probably because I love Hannah and Kristine so much), but I recommend it to anyone looking for low angst and plenty of steamy scenes. The characters are endearing, Marcy in particular is interesting because who she seems to be, who she is at first content to be perceived as is far from her kind and sweet self. There’s character growth on both sides, with Marcy leaving her player persona behind and Zoe learning to get out of her own way, both with Marcy and with her parents. I liked both sets of parents (I would have liked to see a bit more of Marcy’s) and Rico the ranger, and was happy to see Lisa and Stella again. And, as always with Lise Gold’s books, I love the way she describes places.
I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
4,5 ⭐️ Very likable two MCs who fall in love without much angst in the story. The personality of the two MCs grows as the story moves forward. I liked the book very much.
It was great to read another story based in Benidorm, Spain. I enjoyed the story. Very, very much. Great characters. Great setting. Low angst. Great first half of the book. But the final part was... kinda flat. The best thing I found was the starring role of an Iberian lynx. But wait! Iberian lynxes near Benidorm? I never would have guessed it! BTW I like the name Kitty better than Tank.
"After sunset" is an enemies-to-lovers romance set in Benidorm, Spain. After working abroad for a few years Zoe returns to her hometown in Spain to start her new job as an executive chef in a new hotel. That's where she meets Marcy, one of the contractors and she can't stand her, because of what happened between them many years ago. But Marcy has no idea why the new chef hates her so much.
I enjoyed this story a lot. At the moment I am so tired of romances where the main characters have an instant magical connection and are in love right away, so it was nice that this book was not like that. Since Zoe and Marcy didn't like each other at the beginning, it took some time and communication to overcome the conflict between them.
The writing was good like always and I appreciate Lise Gold's talent of describing the settings so well so you feel like you are actually there.
If you like enemies-to-lovers romances in a beautiful setting with low angst and without unnecessary drama, this book is for you.
Warning, this reiew has some weird references to the German editions of Pippi Longstocking.
They say: "don't judge a book by it's cover;" and it's true, because if I had, I would not have read this wonderful book. I have four paperbacks of Lise Gold in my top favourites bookshelf and all four covers are absolutely perfect. This one, though, even if the writing is incredible, AGAIN!, is not getting there, because the cover, I am sorry to say, is CRAP! Why for heaven's sake is evryone going for these at best mediocre graphics for covers? I am absolutely horrified!
Sorry, but back to the book itself ... It is the best second chance romance I have read so far, lt's too realistic, believable and -for me - very close to home. I am a transwoman and as a teen I fell in love with a lesbian girl, but I was so deep in the closet, that I could have met Chief Rabenaas in Taka Tuka Land!
What I'd give, to meet her again these days, now that I'm female myself! What I'd give to have a love story like this!
This is a nice feel good story. It is set in Spain. I love getting to learn about other countries. If you want a read without much angst, try this one. Marcy is a womanizer party girl. Zoe is a chef that just moved back home. What could they have in common?
Lise Gold has another hit on her hands with this second book of the Paradise Series. I loved the chemistry and had a few laughs. I enjoyed the relationship as it grew, and how the characters evolved. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
A beautiful, HOT/ enemies to lovers/ second chance love story! Zoe is coming home from Hong Kong to be the executive chef in a newly renovated hotel/restaurant. When she meets the building contractor Marcy, and her blood boils. They'd met when Zoe was 17 and Marcy was 19. A good and bad memory. But... I loved this story! 5 stars!
4.5 STARS Welcome to paradise where even when the sun goes down, the romance turns up the heat…
Returning home to Spain for the first time in years, chef Zoe is excited to be back near her family and putting down roots in her hometown of Benidorm. She’s just landed a job as the executive chef at El Escondite, the refurbished Premier Sunset hotel, and while the place in being renovated, she’s building her kitchen dream team. There’s just been one downer on this whole experience - the lead contractor is the woman she lost her virginity to, Marcy, and Marcy doesn’t even remember Zoe. The two seemingly do not get along, even though it’s clear they’re attracted to one another. So when Zoe drops the bomb on Marcy that they do in fact know each other, Marcy is determined to apologise for her actions as a teenager and for the way she’s acted during the renovation process. With things patched up, the pair grow closer and it’s not long before they can’t deny their attraction any longer. Marcy has always been flirt and the queen of one-night-stands, but for the first time she’s interested in a future with the woman she’s attracted to. She just has to show a reluctant Zoe that she’s in this for the long haul.
Lise seriously has a way with words as we are once again transported to the sunny Spanish coast for another swoony sapphic romance. The way Lise describes her settings in amazing and she genuinely makes it so easy to imagine these locations and feel like you’re part of the story too. I feel like she could write about paint drying and it would be an interesting read.
We were introduced to both Zoe and Marcy in Welcome To Paradise, so we already had a really fun set-up to their story. I really enjoyed that Lise took us back to show the development of their relationship during the timeline of Lisa and Stella’s story from the first book, rather than just picking up the timeline directly after the first book. While you definitely don’t have to have read book one to enjoy this one, it really does help give a little more background and context to this story, plus you get to see Lisa and Stella’s relationship, which was super cute.
The romance may have been swoony and spicy, but the real story-stealer was the Tank, the Iberian Lynx. It was such a interesting inclusion into the story, and I was genuinely so invested in this tale of animal conservation that I actually teared up during the epilogue. Who knew a fictional Lynx could steal your heart just like these characters!
I once again love that this story doesn’t feature any of the traditional romance angst - it’s refreshing to just follow this couple as they go from enemies to friends to lovers, without all the drama and angst and breakups. It’s just a sweet and steamy romance, with a side-serving of wild kitty.
This was another gorgeous sapphic romance, so if you’ve not yet escaped to sunny Benidorm, you definitely need to add these books to your TBR, especially if you need a little extra spice in your life!
This was a very enjoyable enemies-to-lovers romance. I loved both characters and there was plenty of chemistry between them to keep me invested. Also, I love how Lise Gold’s romances always manage to transport me to a new location. There’s always just enough detail to really feel like I can see the environment described without being overly descriptive. Definitely recommend.
Of course the ending in “Welcome To Paradise” was leading us to the story of Zoe and Marcy. Both characters were very exciting and since they were trying to move forward from some bad past history, this story was not going to disappoint. Learning about each character, their families and their dreams made this a great continuation with a very sweet side story and a very sweet HEA!
Another fantastic read. You're 2 for 3 so far author san. Can't wait to read number 3. This book was far better than I thought it was going to be. The setup of these characters from the first book left me worried that this book was going to be far more anxty and upsetting than it was. Lot's of romance, love, humour, and plenty of smexy times. If you liked the first book in the series you'll like this one too.
Such an amazing second book of this series. We met the main characters in book one and now get to follow their adventures in getting together. Overcoming the fear of history repeating itself and the growth of both characters makes this story beautiful. After the little teasers in book one I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but is was pure joy from the first page to the last.
This is a great read. Lots of fun. Good characters. A delightful kitty. Everything that you need to enjoy a read.
My only real complaint is that I’d have loved more fleshing out of the MC’s families and relationships. The MCs are a cute couple and I like that, would have been nice to see more of them socially.
The second book was just as good as the first! I enjoyed getting the full story of Marcy and Zoe. The story dealt with some heavy topics without seeming preachy or taking it to ligthly. I particularly like the introduction of Tank into the the story and the role it play in Marcy and Zoe's relationship. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I love Lise Gold’s books and cheer when a new one is released. The deeply-drawn characters in this book, Marcy and Zoe have a believable relationship that goes through a number of twists and turns, and their lovemaking is quite hot. Other side characters are also well- drawn. Highly recommend.
This is the second book in the Resort Series and I have to say I enjoyed it just as much as the first one! Lise Gold does a great job of letting you into the minds of her characters. She's a great storyteller. Well done!
Loved this book. The scenery is amazing and brought me there. The ocean is my happy place whenever I can get there. Marcy's house sounds like I need to be living there and the chemistry between Marcy and Zoe was hot
I have enjoyed this wonderful heartfelt story of Zoe and Marcey how they meet while Marcey was remodeling a Hotel and Zoe was the new executive chef for the hotel restaurant. They meet as kids but didn't know that it was it for them till they meet later.
I really liked the premise of the book, about how Marcy and Zoe's past came between them. The story is a feels good story, but I would have preferred a bit more angst between them, mostly with their shared backstory. I just found it a bit "too easy" in how their story came to be.
I loved the first book and now I finally got around to reading this is it's so good. The characters are great together and it was quite a ride as they came to terms with their feelings for each other
Once both of them were able to talk adn communicate their feelings is when I felt like their connection really became obvious, but before then, it was a bit annoying that they were both going back and forth about defining what their relationship was going to be.
Absolutely loved this one!! Super fun to listen to and the characters reeled me in quick. I loved the side story with the Lynx and having that build their relationship was fun to watch unfold. I really hope there will be more because I'm enjoying every second of each love story unfolding.
Like part one in the resort series this one is just as engaging. Not really outstanding or spectacular, but a nice read about two people with great chemistry falling in love. Of course well written as always by ms Gold.
