When former Navy SEAL Max “Rex” Granger returns to his beachfront restaurant in the middle of the night after a mission, the last thing he expects to find is Shay Weston working late. He’s developed a hardcore crush on the gorgeous redhead, but she’s an employee and he refuses to cross that line.
Shay knows she shouldn’t be fantasizing about her boss, but she can’t help it. The man is built like a Viking warrior and he treats her like a princess. No one has ever taken care of her before, and she spent her childhood moving from one foster home to the next. But, for some reason, the big, charming man feels like home, something she’s longed for her entire life.
Just as she’s about to confess her feelings, a team of mercenaries kidnaps Shay. Frantic, Max waits for the enemy to reveal his demands and they turn out to be quite simple: follow our orders and turn over your former teammates or Shay dies.
Max would rather die than betray his brothers, but Shay’s life is on the line as the evil powers behind Project Phoenix begin to make their final deadly moves and assume ultimate control by turning the former SEALs into their pawns.
This is book 4 in the Project Phoenix series. While each book covers a single couple, there’s ongoing story arcs that build off events from previous books and the series should be read in order. This review may contain spoilers earlier books.
Oooh! This ties with Oz for being my favorite book of the series. Not only did I love Max & Shay, but the pacing and action were terrific here too. Shay is kidnapped by Veronica in an attempt to control Max. This leads Max & Shay on several missions and the close proximity brings both of their barriers down. These two have been circling each other since book 1 - and it was a lot of fun getting to read them finally coming together. Not only are they hot together, but Shay’s finding family with Max, his family, and the team. I also love that Shay is no wilting violet, she's the perfect fit for Max, and their banter is a lot of fun.
Another attempt at freeing Caspian goes off differently than anyone could have imagined. Lots of action and suspense. Max & Shay get their HFN, the team gets some answers about Project Phoenix and even more questions.
I’m so excited that Ghost’s book is next. Though Gracyk has a spin-off series - Slater Security that’s she’s concentrating on for a bit. I’ll be diving into that while waiting for Reactivated: Cassian.
Building on the suspense created through the first three books in her Project Phoenix series, Charissa Gracyk brings the heat and ups the intensity in “Reactivated: Max.” Max and Shay are beautifully written characters, with well-developed backstories, who pull the reader into their lives and plight, leaving you rooting for their inevitable HEA. Gracyk weaves in the entire team, creating a beautiful sense of found family, something Shay desperately desires, but is too scared to hope for. Max is the perfect complement to her hesitance, helping her recognize that her past does not determine her future and she can have all the good things she’s always wanted if she’ll just give herself the chance to claim them. Their journey to their HEA is not without its pitfalls, though, and that suspense is gloriously interwoven through and because of their love story. This book left me cheering for more than one reason, but also left me really anxious for the next story in the series.
Another awesome chapter in the Project Phoenix series!
In true Charissa Gracyk fashion, this story starts off at a sprint and only increases in pace. It's a complete page-turner that'll have you biting your nails. Will it all work out in the end or will someone lose their head? ;)
Loved the action-packed nature of this book but also the romance between Max and Shay. He is a total dreamy alpha roll that melts for Shay, which of course makes me melt for him! And Shay! What a total badass. She is my favorite female lead so far in this series. She hasn't had an easy life and if anyone deserves a HEA it's her!
I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next installment!
After meeting Charissa at Charm City Romanticon this year, I was finally able to dive into her back list, boy did I not know what I was in for! When we first meet Max aka Rex in Reactivated: Oz, he is described as "Max's perfect skin tone and light green eyes resulted from his Caucasian mother and African American father. When the guys went out with Max it was like going out with Shemar Moore" If I wasn't already hooked-that would do it because I am a huge Criminal Minds fan therefore I am a huge Derek Morgan fan played by Shemar Moore, that being said when I got to Max's book I knew I was in for a treat and was surprised to learn that Charissa has never watched Criminal Minds-yes I asked her because well "Baby girl"
We knew that Max and his employee Shaye have been circling each other since book one of this series- so when Shaye is kidnapped by the evil Veronica as a way to gain control of Max to do her bidding- as she has been has been foiled by Max and his former SEAL teammates previously, Max is forced to face the fact that there is nothing he wouldn't do to rescue Shaye.
Shaye is a woman who grew up knowing that she could depend on no one but herself. When push comes to shove- she is as tough as any SEAL. Between dodging bullets, running from bad guys, and trying to put an end to Project Phoenix - Max and Shaye grow closer, the reasons they resisted for so long fade and Max realizes that now he has his "baby girl" he's not going to let anyone including Shaye keep them apart. Another great book from this amazing author has you asking, will the SEAL get to keep his "baby girl"? Will Shaye get the family she always dreamed about? Read Reactivated: Max and find out!
This was so good. For such a great book that had it all. Romance, steam, intensity, action, drama, and afeel good happy ending. This was about restaurant owner and ex seal Max who had an attraction for his employee, Shay but couldn't act on it. Firstly let me just say that the connection between Shay and Max was sassy, romantic and protective, and that went both ways. Shay was gun shy, coming from a hard life and only having herself to rely on, so Max had a hard battle to fight with her. The action and drama in the story line was really relevant and so spot on. I enjoyed that aspect of the book as it gripped me and held on till the end. I really got involved with these two, but also with the whole team of guys. I loved that they had each other's backs and that team spirit. It's what I enjoy most about these types of books. So well written, and finishing off with a sneak peek at the next book in the series, I really can't wait for more. I was delighted with this book, so waiting for more will be hard but fun! Great story!! This was an ARC and this is my honest review.
And we finally have our Rex's story! After three books of trying to avoid his feelings towards his sexy redhead employee, we finally get their HEA... And so much more than that!
This book starts exactly where Jericho's ends. Max is at his bar with Shay and they are ambushed by Veronica and her thugs. Shay is taken from him and later returned with a bomb implanted in her nape... Yeah. Very creepy. Now that he has her back, he must save her life, even if it means beatraying his teammates.
Max and Shay's book is the one with the best character development so far. Far more than just their mission to shut down Project Phoenix and rescue their lost friend, Cassian, we get a glimpse of their families with Rex's nosy sisters and Shay's loneliness.
Also, Cassian's scenes stole the show! Come on, I love everything about a brainwashed hero trope (no wonder my favorite Marvel character is Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier). He finally getting more scenes than before was really a plus to me and the epilogue brought everything I wanted! I can't wait for Cassian's book next.

ARC review: Wow!! What a crazy, action packed ride. From the moment I started reading, it was page after page of heart stopping situations and breath stealing spice.
Shay's life, from the time she was born has been nothing but one shitshow after another and she has no one to depend on but herself. Throughout the book she proves time and again just how much of a badass she can be. Her only weakness, a green eyed SEAL.
Max is an absolute sweetheart with a heart of gold but when the woman of his dreams is put in danger, that heart of gold turns to ash and the beast that lives within breaks free. His team mates nicknamed him Rex due to his size but he lives up to that nickname when Shay’s life is at stake.
I loved this book and I'm excited to see where the story goes.
Incredible story. This is the 4th book in this series where this team of seals gets “activated to be super soldiers “ what they each go thru and try to get the bad people doing this to them is a brilliant storyline from this author. You get pulled into the story and it feels like your right there sitting with them and working to relative the issue so it will be reversed and they each can have their HEA with the woman they have fallen in love with. This book touched my heart of the background story of our heroine Shayne and Max is a story you will love it leaves you with that warm awww feeling.
Reactivated: Max (Project Phoenix book 4) by Charissa Grayck is a huge 5 ⭐️ read. It’s not very often you come across an author whose books blow you away with every new book being better than the last, Ms Grayck is one of those authors. I devoured every word written from the first page until the last. Max and Shay are definitely two of my favourite characters, they’re in the top 10 of my all time favourite. The story starts out fast and doesn’t slow for anything, this book takes the alpha male to another level and his heroine was just perfect for him. I would highly recommend this book and would suggest you start at book 1 to get the full enjoyment. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Reactivated: Max is the 4th book in this series and this is Max and Shay’s story. From the first page till the last it kept me on the edge of my seat! It’s action packed and suspenseful and the characters are awesome! I think Shay really deserved a happy end after all she has been through and she and Max are just perfect together! Although I love all the precious books in this series I think Shay and Max a my favorite couple 😍 Like in the previous books I really like the team spirit and how they interact with each other. I’m looking forward to reading the next book! Ms Gracyk has become one of my favorite author’s! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion!
Charissa Gracyk’s fourth book in her ‘Project Phoenix’ series is absolutely explosive, literally. The veracious vixen, Veronica, is once again up to her evil ways but she’s taken it a step further. This time she’s using Max to control what she wants done. It’s not her mind control device but something she’s controlling that Max holds near and dear to his heart. Max’s reactivation story is like a quest to meet Veronica’s demands by certain time limits or life could become explosive. The things she wants Max to do makes him question where his loyalties lie. This is an excitingly adventurous, romantic, suspense novel that was so riveting that I couldn’t put it down until the end. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
Well this is another triumph for Charissa Gracyk! I absolutely love this series in which the soldiers get ‘reactivated’ into super soldiers!
This is book 4 in the Project Phoenix series, about Max and Shay.
Max is deliciously alpha! He may be my favourite of the guys so far! I loved how he fell for Shay.. just yummy!
Shay is a totally awesome heroine! I loved her! She’s my kind of female lead. Her history will have you cheering her on and praying she gets her happily ever after!
I love the storyline that runs in the background of all the books. It’s such a clever concept that Charissa writes perfectly. She’s extremely talented. I’d recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance.
What a ride! This book sucks you in immediately with an action packed, tension building, opening scene! The action continues throughout as they work to defeat the evil behind Project Phoenix. As always, with Gracyk, there is action and adventure mixed with steamy connections between two characters that seem made for each other! I absolutely love a found family and was rooting for Shay to allow everyone through her walls! And now I can’t wait to read more about the bad-ass ladies of Slater Security in Gracyk’s next series!
I am so loving this Project Phoenix series! Each one gets better and better. Max and Shay’s story is hot, spicy and full of action! Right from the start you are thrown into the adventure. This book is full of heart racing moments, who will survive?! Charissa Gracyk is quickly becoming my favorite author!
This story hits the ground running, pulling you in and keeping you glued to the pages. Max and Shay take you on an adventure as they face some tough situations. All kinds of suspense that'll have you hanging on the moment as you follow along these two on their journey. It's an addictive read. So good I enjoyed every bit of this book.
Oh my, Max & Shay's story is steamy & action-packed! We've got the whole boss/employee trope going on, which adds a forbidden vibe. And they story with all of these characters keeps getting better & better! Each book in this series leaves you wanting more! Excited to see what happens next.
Holy holy what a ride!! This is the fourth book in the Project Phoenix series and after each one you can't imagine them getting any better but blow me over with a feather duster Charissa Gracyk somewhere increases the WOW factor with each installment!! Max is such a beautiful character. Charismatic, total alpha from top to toe, a truly caring person and oh my god, he's so dreaming not be made my ovaries clench!! Watching all the guys work together to find and defeat the evil that is getting closer is like watching a well liked machine where each and every part moves together in perfect unison. It beautiful, heart stopping, unconscious choreographed dance. Poetry in motion!! What is such a strong character. She's alone and only had herself to felt on - enter Max. Her light in the darkness, her port in the storm. Landing herself in the middle of the evil chasing Max, What doesn't hesitate to stand by his side and work with him to find. What they need to defeat their unseen enemy. Charissa Gracyk is a connoisseur of the writing world. Her talent knows literally no bounds. You're booked from the first word and all you can do is trip the handlebars and hold on for fear life as you ride the rollercoaster of emotions that this beautifully, stunning selfishness created. This series has filled my heart. It's beautiful. Stunning. Heart warming and got enough to leave you with sunburn. I've never wanted to be a fictional character more than I want to step into What's shows and let Max burn off his power and strength with me!!! There aren't enough stars in the world to fully convey how exceptional this story is.
It’s Max turn to be reactivated and oh the stamina!!
This book is not a standalone you need to read the first three books in the series to really understand the overall plot and to follow the ins, outs, ups, downs, twists, and turns this series takes you on. It’s really a great series I’ve been enjoying immensely.
Max Granger has been attracted to his employee Shay Weston for a long time, but since she works for him and is damn good at her job, he has buried that interest no matter how hard it was. Bit when the master minds behind Project Phoenix storms into his restaurant and takes Shay, he will stop at nothing to get her back, even if he has to betray his team to do so…
Ohhhh it’s getting good! I really enjoyed Max and Shay they had fantastic chemistry and a lot of delicious steamy bits. Shay was perfect for Max, strong, smart, and a tad vulnerable. She had a rough start in life and assumed she was never going to be a priority to anyone. Max proved her wrong, and she realized she didn’t need to be alone and that she could trust Max to protect her not only from the dangers they faced but her heart.
This book has more revelations revealed, plenty of action, more intense moments, and an epic cliffhanger setup for the next book that I’m so excited to start!
The blurb sold this to me and re-engaged me into this series totally.
Max and Syd had a will they, won’t they thing going on since book 1 so, to the surprise of no one, here is their story.
Another great progression of the underlying storyline (you will need to read these books in order to follow this) we are slowly learning more and more about who is involved in the project and the bodies are piling up.
A strong romantic storyline (who would’t want a Max!! He’s blinking awesome and so romantic) I did love how Syd was a “save herself” type of girl. She was totally self sufficient and it showed.
Downsides for me, some parts of the book I did find myself wondering why they did certain stuff and not others (can someone, for the love of god, please sedate Ghost!!!) and there were areas of this book I felt could have stood some fleshing out and could have been made more of by the author.
Despite this, a good read and as eager as I am to read Cassian’s story (yet mildly disappointed that wasn’t going to go where I thought……..) I am equally happy we get to meet more of the Slater team. Roll on Maddox and Sailor (via Fallon first)
This is the fourth book in the Project Phoenix series but you can read them all individually if you didn't read the first ones.
I received an ARC of this book and loved every minute of Shay and Max's adventure. I really enjoyed reading not just their love story and their HEA but I also learned more about Project Phoenix.
I like that Shay's life hasn't been perfect and that she is super kick-ass and so deserves a sweet, strong man like Max to love and care for her. I love a good romance adventure but it's the characters that move me the most. The romance between these two as well as the friendship between the Navy SEALS is what makes me truly love this series. Charissa Gracyk continues to write characters that kept me rooting for them and with this fourth installment, created another fast-paced story that helped me escape the humdrum reality of winter in the Midwest.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes happily ever afters, strong women and cute boys with awesome abs.
This fourth book in the Project Phoenix series is definitely my favorite so far. Max is (yet again!) my favorite of our Heroes, Shay is one of my very favorite heroines, and the action, danger, suspense, chemistry and heat are incredible!
Max is strong and powerful with awesome extra abilities, yet he’s protective and sensitive and so swoony. “I’ve got you, baby girl. Always,” Max murmured. Sigh.
I also loved the progress the team makes in furthering their quest to shut down Project Phoenix and to save one of their brothers.
This is a fantastic and thrilling book and it’s a wonderful love story. I highly recommend it. I recommend ALL of them!
Every installment of The Project Phoenix series I say, “This is my favorite hero of the team.” Then I read the next book and fall all over again. Max is the ultimate protector hero: powerful, skilled, deadly. But he’s also patient and sensitive with a heart of gold.... And hot. Did I mention hot?
Shay is strong and capable in her own right, yet possesses a vulnerability that makes you root for her happily ever after. I love the chemistry between the two, as well as the way they strengthen and make each other better.
On top of all that, the entire Project Phoenix thread is gaining momentum with every book. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Difficult Choices What if you went to a military buddy’s funeral and ended up discovering that you were part of a previously defunct, now reactivated, experimental, super soldier program that you didn’t know you had signed up for? The mystery continues, who is behind Project Phoenix? Restauranteur and retired Seal Max “Rex” Granger, the next to be Reactivated by Project Phoenix. When his employee and girl of his dreams Shay is held hostage by the forces behind Project Phoenix, Max has to choose between his SEAL team brothers and the life of his hard-core crush. Angsty Suspense/ Steamy Protectors-Workplace Romance/ Intrigue. Secrets are revealed!!!
Oh my….what a mega hot alpha hero Max is!!! As much as I’m a fan of the protector, I’m even more in love with that soft hidden marshmallow heart that Shay brings out in this strong warrior. Not to be left out of the action, Shay might surprise you with her hidden strength and resilience when it comes down to the wire! This whole series has been so beautifully laid out, with a satisfying HEA and continuing mystery woven throughout that has you anticipating what comes next! Bravo to a very talented author! Highly recommended!
Max is up next in this series and he’s been crushing on one of employees, the beautiful Shay, and is determined to keep her in the friend zone. He refuses to mix business with pleasure but when Shay is kidnapped and drawn into the messy Project Phoenix thing he’s determined to keep her safe. The only problem is Nasty Veronica had an explosive device implanted in Shay’s neck and is threatening to explode it if Max doesn’t follow her orders. Lots of action, suspense, family and steam in this one. It will keep you reading well past your bedtime to finish lol.
This is Max And Shay's book. We find out even more in this book even though there is so much more we don't know. Shay really came alive in this book for me. I was used to her being in the background and lightly flirting with Max. Charissa Gracyk breathed so much life into her and she became a person with so much to give and receive than just a character on the page. You wanted this romance between Max and Shay and it was delivered.
Max and Shay's story continues the overall Arc Of the story. The group continues to try finish Project Phoenix with some success and even more troubles. The romance is definitely 🔥 🔥 🔥. The intro of the Slater Security group leads us to the spin-off series, but there are more stories to tell in the Project Phoenix too. Charissa Gracyk is awesome
Just when you think the team might catch a break, more intrigue pops up. It was nice to meet more of Slater's team, on to that series next. Max and Shay circle around because they work together. Will they ever let their attraction be known? Or is there just to much going on?
