"There are few greater hurts than the betrayal by a loved one. With practical guidance and personal experience, author and counselor Debra Laaser offers hope-filled practical steps that can set you on the journey of healing and transformation"--
Debra Laaser is one of the very few authors to adequately address betrayal trauma on behalf of the betrayed partner from well-researched, evidence-based, firsthand knowledge.
From Trauma to Transformation is a short, practical guide to help readers move from a position of wounded victim to a position of thriving survivor. (While the position of wounded victim is completely valid and in no way the victim’s fault, nobody wants to stay there forever.)
This book builds on an older book by Laaser called Shattered Vows—also one of the few books to offer substantial help to betrayed women in a way that will not cause further trauma. Neither of these books are go super deep, but they are solid starting points for anyone beginning a journey of healing.
If you are looking for a safe, trusted source of guidance and information, Debra Laaser is a great place to start. I’d also look into works by her late husband, Mark Laaser.
Debbie thoughtfully and articulately walks through the practical tools and ideas to consider if / when someone is healing from trauma, however these tools are just as applicable to apply in steady state of life.
I found much good in this book from a woman who has been through spousal betrayal, is a licensed therapist, and a believer. I appreciate her focus on healing and moving from a place of survival to thriving, trusting God and growing in a healthy way. I think there is a good amount of practical application and "gentle assignments" which I also appreciate. I'm glad to have read it and will keep a copy on my shelf for reference.
