I read this series as separate books, and thought it was a brilliant series! Here are my reviews: Machinations - I thought the beginning was fantastic - very well written and strong. The base idea of this story is not a new one - the machines take over - nor is the reason - to stop endless wars. However, the author does manage to treat this in a different was from those I have read or seen before, and I found the story quite compelling. I did, however, not give five stars as the writing and plot varied so much - sometimes really strong, like the beginning, and at times I found it slightly drawn out or unbelievable. Hopefully this will be remedied in the second book. Counterpart - I copy below my review when this book was first released, now it is out again with the third part coming soon! I marked it four stars last time as I was annoyed that it was incomplete - five now as I now see I will get to finish the story! After this wait, I am very excited, and now able to properly recommend this series to other readers!.................. Great story but somehow incomplete? This was a great sequel to a good first book in this series. Plenty of unusual ideas, reasonably good writing, and plot twists and turns. I especially liked the different takes on the central character (don't want to reveal too much here!). However, I did feel at the end that there was room for a third book, and I am surprised to see nothing around. It would not surprise me for an English author to leave us guessing like this, but it did surprise me for a US author to do so. If there is another book coming, I would be very happy to read it! Architect - At last! The series is completed. What a relief (to me, and probably to the author as well!). I read the first couple of books when they first came out, and the only non-positive comment I made is that the series didn't appear to be finished. Now they have been re-released, and here is the final book! After all that, I really enjoyed reading this book. I had to remind myself of what came before, but that was easily done, and it wasn't too hard to get back into the story. I loved the slight complexity of the different 'characters', and was fascinated to hear what became of them. It was a different take on 'the machines take over' to that explored in other novels, and I did find the inclusion of Glasgow to be inspired as well as necessary! And so nice to find the story arc of Dopey ending so satisfactorily. Now that readers are able to go through all three books in the series, and have a complete story, I do not hesitate to recommend this series to anyone interested. To those who, like me, had previously read the first two books - here's your chance to finish the story - you won't be disappointed!
I cried often. There are so many moments deserving of human emotion that dread crept in more than once for so many incredible characters. The machines, like humanity, are guided by those in charge. The twists and turns throughout are inspired and creative. They bring about that emotional response. I found a great deal to think about and I must say the ending was truly phenomenal!
This apocalypse sci-fi tale brings the good and bad of all the stories as fans have witnessed over the past century bringing it all together with a convincing conclusion. Clones, AI and humans fighting each other for control of the world. This would be a movie I would pay to watch.
