Jack Reacher meets the Patriot in this exciting alternative American history novel!
Thomas Nelson has traveled back in time to help George Washington win the American Revolution and change the course of history for the better.

After completing a secret task to help put the American colonists on track to win their revolution, Thomas returns, believing his work is finished. General Washington promised that Thomas, the Pale Rider, could retire once he returned to the colonies.

But when Thomas’s love, Annie, goes missing while under the supervision of Washington, Thomas realizes that his work isn’t finished. And if he does manage to rescue Annie from a man as much a focused assassin as Thomas, then Washington has another quest for him to complete.

Retirement isn’t in Thomas’s near future, not while the colonies are still at war with the British.

Saving Annie, taking back Philadelphia, and ensuring the surrender at Yorktown – so many daring and dangerous tasks, yet Thomas dons his black vest and Pale Rider rises to the challenge to keep the colonists on the path to victory.

Will Thomas manage to pull off the impossible so the colonists can finally defeat the British and win their freedom? Or will his luck, and his twenty-first century ammunition, finally run out?

Sorry

I'm so sorry I have reached the final line in this third volume of the TT "Chances". America is safe now to begin the complex chore of carving out a functional provisional government of, by,and for the people.
As the two previous books were satisfyingly active, this conclusion just filled the bill and rocked the entire game to a very big conclusion.
Filled with action, treachery, skill with martial arts, and also a bit of dark humor, I thought I was going to have to bid Thomas, Annie, their children and others goodbye, I tapped the final spot and much to my surprise I read Thomas might soon become busy again in yet another century.
I'm ready.
I'm bidding this series goodbye and heading for the1800's.
What could possibly go wrong?
It' The Pale Rider, right?
I'm taking the plunge. And I'll be sure to update once again.
What stands up for my reading tastes and satisfaction?
Books by Michael Roberts. A sure winner of an author!

I had a hard time what to rate all the books in this series. The idea was solid. The writing and character development were very good. My issues were with some slips in his plot line. Saving Washington put the outcome more in our timeline. Likewise winning the battle of Saratoga. Then he ignored the butterfly effect. How in the heck would the battle ending the war still happen at Yorktown? For that matter, if in his timeline how would there be a battle of Saratoga if there was no Washington and the Americans lost at Saratoga? The other issues were minor. Little details. Like when he first met Annie she commented on his wedding ring and later he commented he hadn't wore a wedding ring in years. There were a couple of others, and it could have been better edited than just using spellcheck.
All that aside I enjoyed the books and am looking forward to seeing what Thomas Cain will do in 1814.

Surprisingly Entertaining

When I first started reading book one, Second Chance, I was surprised to find that I couldn’t stop reading it and within a week I was moving on to the second in the series which I read in about three days and now I just finished the third and final book in this series. Aside from some grammar and spelling errors all three books kept me entertained and wanting to know what happens next. I look forward to reading the next book which I guess will be called something like Adens Chance. Bravo to the author for an entertaining read and utilizing the real life historical characters without dishonoring them (except for the British, they were brutal back then).

I was so sad

I got to the end of this trilogy and was sad at the thought it was going to end. However it is going to continue on and I thoroughly look forward to the new adventure of Thomas cain.

Liked the plot and the story was certainly a compelling one. First time I’ve seen this subject in an alternate history book and enjoyed it

This is a toss up.

It starts off slow and has the same issues as book two, but the middle is strong and it wraps up well. The ending leaves something to be desired, not going to say anything else because spoilers. This is a three star that hits four due to content.

Last book in the 'Second Chance' trilogy, finds our hero returning from his mission to France and England, and helping General Washington to win the Revolutionary War. Pretty harrowing at times, and lots of fun, and there's even a hint at a sequel in the future. I enjoyed these books.

Great series but oar not ore

Loved the series, pale rider was great. However somebody needs to know difference between an oar and ore. Spell check is only so good.

This is a well written book with a cast of strong characters and an action packed storyline. This is the third and final book in the series with Thomas's work with the colonist's in the American Revolution. The author does a fantastic job painting his scenes in vivid detail and had me glued to the pages right to the end .. or is it the end? Loved it!!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

I am really enjoying this series. Of course, I love time travel and read/listen to all I can get my hands on. This is the third book of four and a bit more confused than the first two. I look forward to the last book!

I have really enjoyed this series. It starts with someone wanting to go back in history and change the past from his future which is very different than ours. I always like it when the protagonist is creating the world we live in instead of changing it. The Rewinder series by Brett Battles does this basic concept as well including going back and changing the events of the Revolution although I think this series did it better. All our wrong todays by Elan Masti also has them changing the past to create our current day but not by going to the Revolution. I do not give out spoilers in my reviews so I wont say how things work out but I enjoy Lafayette being a major character in this book partially because he is a favorite historical figure for me.

It was a long hard road for our hero.

After the adventures of the first two novels our hero is the most hated man in the British Empire and now the price on his head could get a common soldier elevated to the wealthy class.

Worse the enemy finally gets smart and sets out men with wilderness skills to hunt him down by any means necessary. How can Thomas possibly survive this time? Read it for yourself, if you like hero adventure stories you will like this series!

I love the genre of alternate history. That is where the author takes a point in history and ponders what would happen if things had turned out differently. Final Chance is the last book in a trilogy that is a bit different than what I usually read in alternate history. Instead of finding a point in history and postulating what would have happened had things gone differently, author Michael Roberts hast the protagonist, Thomas Cain, in current time much different from our own. The British have managed to put down the rebellion in the Colonies back in the late 18th century, leading to British domination over the world that continues into the 20th century. After losing his wife when she was raped and murdered by a British soldier and not finding any justice, Thomas is tasked by his friends to go back to the 1700s and change the outcome of the rebellion. He’s given three specific things that should turn the tide of the war.

Final Chance picks up where the previous novel left off. Thomas is in France, after having succeeded in his unofficial mission to assassinate the Prime Minister of England. He’s trying to figure out how to get himself back to the Colonies and to the new woman in his life, Annie, and her daughters. Meanwhile, the King of England is enraged by the fact that his Prime Minister was murdered in his own castle by the mysterious Pale Rider who has been almost single-handedly empowering the rebelling colonists. He sets Joseph Brant, one of their top guerilla operatives, on Thomas’ trail and promises a huge reward if Brant can kill him.

Brant is known as a monster, but he has the patience to wait for the right opportunity. He learns about Annie and her daughters, who are currently in Valley Forge under Washington’s protection. Brant theorizes if he can kidnap Annie, he can use her to lure Thomas into a trap and kill him. This puts two very skilled assassins at each other, and I wasn’t sure if that was how Roberts would end the series. We were already in uncharted territory, with Thomas’ assassination of the Prime Minister. Having Thomas perish after rescuing Annie would be a fitting end without him having any progeny or any other impact on future events.

This series is fantastic.

If you have already read the first two books in the series, continue on..... you will not be disappointed. If you haven't, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of the series. I hope there are many more books to follow. Hard to stop reading, and every installment is as good the pervious one.

Love this historical Time Travel

Frankly I thought that if you agree to something you follow it through to the end...however the mystery was very entertaining and exciting. The hero was sometimes rash however the meetings of real historical characters was delightful and plausible given the times and seasons. Frankly I really enjoyed these 3 volumes very much!

Just the right...

...Mix of sci-fi, history, and shoot 'em up! Really believable action, especially so as our hero gets a good many lumps while delivering death and destruction on his enemies.
On the minus side a good proofreader would make this novel nearly perfect!
