I have a stupid crush on my brother's older best friend, always have had.
When my love life blows up in my face, years later he is there like a knight in shining armor. Except there's nothing shiny about him. He is dark, controlled, and mysterious. He is exactly what I need.
Barrett
She is my best mate's younger sister, gorgeous yet completely forbidden.
She thinks I don't want her, but she's mistaken. I want nothing more than for her to scream my name on her bow-shaped lips.
But I'm no good, so I won't touch her. Lourde Diamond deserves the goddamn world, not me.
Missy is an Australian author who writes kissing books with equal parts angst and steam. She loves writing stories about billionaires, enemies to lovers, and the boy next door- just to name a few.
When she’s not writing, she’s taking care of her two daughters and doting husband.
Inspired by the acreage she lives on, Missy regularly distracts herself by visiting her orchard… some days more often than writing!
Then there’s her overweight cat, Charlie, chickens, and bees if she needed another excuse to pass the time.
And, when the day ends, there’s nothing better than unwinding with a gin and tonic as the sunsets surrounded by the ones she loves.
This was really poorly written, over use of dashes and sentences structured incorrectly. But it was when he called his penis a meat stick that it really hit rock bottom for me.
“I don’t want you to just touch me, I want you to ruin me.”
This follows Lorde Diamond, 18 who grew up in privilege and attends social events with her family. Lorde’s mother loves setting her up with men who could potentially marry her but she always ends up with a broken heart. The first time this happened, Barrett Black, her brother’s best friend, was there to take her home. Now it’s five years later and it’s happened again with the same man picking up the pieces. This time I’m staying in his space for a little while. What could go wrong?
This was a great read. I loved Lorde and Barrett together. Sneaking around making each other jealous. You have a protective and possessive side with Barrett the MMC. The spice was brilliant, I enjoyed every scene. Lorde wants to do something with her life but is restricted due to her parents and her brother always looking out for her. Barrett comes off as broody and arrogant but he has a soft spot for Lorde while dealing with some past trauma. There is a cliffhanger, but it leaves you wondering what will happen next it’s not a jaw-dropper. I will say personally I’m not a fan of the nickname Doll Face, I struggle with nicknames in general. Some lines were a little wild and aggressive in referencing spicy scenes. Examples such as meat stick, fuck-hole and another that referenced the name of a volcano in Indonesia. They made me laugh but shocked me as I wasn’t expecting it. Overall I enjoy this read!

I came across Missy's books through a Facebook add and the preview of this book was really addictive. Decided to buy a bundle from Missy's website and I was absolutely hooked. I read the first 4 books of this series in about 6 weeks and I really loved them. You get hooked instantly by the caracters wanting to know more about them and how their story proceeds. The end of the one book gets you curious about the storyline of the next.
I enjoyed reading this story. Forbidden romance. Lourde Diamond has had a crush on her brothers best friend Barret for a long time. Her brother Connor has made it clear his sister is off limits. The Diamond family has a tradition for women, they don’t works and they have arranged marriages both of which Lourde does not want. She’d love to work and she’d like to choose a man of her own as so far her parents choices haven’t gone well. It had an okay storyline and I liked the characters. I will read more in this series.
I am rather perturbed in the fact that I only bought this book and THEN had to BUY THE WHOLE DAMN SERIES! Not only to read more about Lourde and Barrett .... but I am already invested in the whole damn group.... ARGH!
Well done, Missy, well done. [Applause] ....
Seriously, though. While all the above is one hundred accurate... just ask my empty wallet cuz I am a poor writer with four boys ... I couldn't put it down except when I was sleeping, and in that case, my Kindle just sorta fell to the side of me while I started to snore ...
Lourde and Barrett ... stunning. Complicated. Dangerous and soooooo hot!
I am hooked!
While I am not from old money or new money or any money... I adore escaping to a world where making rent isn't a thought process. Going along with Lourde and her friends shopping for sexy underwear to torture Barrett with... to understand lying to yourself in order to give yourself the permission to take those forbidden tastes of what you really want knowing you'll pay for it later.
Oooohh boy ..... and did he STOP using condoms? [Emoji with hand over mouth and wise eyes] .. I mean, I don't know if that was just *the reader needs to assume* thing at that point or a psychological understanding of ... oh, feelings have changed/gotten stronger/he's in love with her . . .
But I see you, Missy! I see you.
Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to go read book 2 ...
OH! And it is spicy!!! Like a jalapeño without seed ... not in your face but ... hawt dayum ...
I wasn't sure going in about this book. It gained my attention on Facebook, and after reading a sample, I thought it was short and sweet, and I could finish it in 24 hours—not knowing there was a book 2! I'm excited for part 2.
The story follows Lourde Diamond, a girl who is destined to stay in line, do as she's told and be the perfect wife and mother because that's what her mother and her grandmother did, but that's not what Lourde wants for herself. She wants and needs more but her Mum can't stop trying to marry her off to the next available 'rich' bacholor' with connections and money, even if Lourde protests she gets told to deal with it, its the way it is. So when Lourde, her boyfriend Hunter and their friends take a trip to The Hamptons for the summer, Lourde is left alone and single when Hunter cheats on her, desperate for some space she moves in with her brother Connor's best friend, Barrett who is working on a deal in the area. She's done dating for a while and wants to have fun, but her brother Connor wants her to be like the rest of the women, settle down, and just as she's told. No sleeping around, its not good for the public image.
Until Lourde realises that her one-sided crush on Barrett may not be as one-sided as she first thought, I love the enemies to lovers, best friends, little sister, and rich billionaire tropes. I wasn't expecting the enemies to lovers; that was a pleasant surprise. Soon, the sparks fly, but Barrett doesn't have relationships, and he certainly doesn't fall in love with anyone, let alone his best friend's sister (wink).
The pacing was good. It was slow on the buildup but not too slow, and there was plenty to keep you hooked and entertained. I initially gave it four stars but realised after about ten minutes of reading that I really liked it. Something about Barrett Black makes me want him just as much as Lourde does. I can't wait for book two, as I have this sneaking suspicion that her brother knows.
Love comes to those who wait. It's a nice story of rich families from old money and a rich self made man. 4 friends that party and get the women. A sister to one that is in line for her mother to choose her a husband, because that's how old money works. But the sister has eyes for the self made rich man. He has a loyalty to her brother and doesn't want to give that up. Not until she sucks him in after showing too much skin to other men and he can't take it. Well written rollercoaster ride.
Lourde has always had a crush on Barrett. He’s old and her brother’s best friend. He has secrets and thinks he is not worthy of love or a woman. After being cheated on twice she ends up staying with Barrett for part of the summer. She offers him friends with benefits until she has to go back home where her mother wants to set her up with another man.
Pretty standard story line for the trope. Pretty short book but just got caught up with life so took a bit longer to finish.
So worth staying up reading this till 2 am. This is the most exciting, thrilling, erotic moments, book I’ve read in a while. I am absolutely amazed that this series isn’t out there more. I highly recommend this book series and I can’t wait to read the next book. Absolutely amazing, kept me completely involved with the love they never knew they had. So many spicy scenes not recommended for younger readers lots of intimate moments with details only for 18+ readers.
Quick, short, steamy read that ends on a *small* cliffhanger. Overall it was decent, but I found myself losing interest every so often because neither the plot nor the characters or their romance kept me engaged. I also thought the dialogue sounded way too fake, & some of the choice of words like “f*ck hole” & “meat stick” were just too ridiculous & uncomfortable😭 also, did not like the pet name “doll face” & because it was used so often it started to grind in my gears🙃 but if you’re looking for a steamy, easy, low angst read then this is for you.
Lourde was a tad too immature for her age, although I did like that she was sassy, feisty, & kept her head held high. Barrett was mysterious & had this dark aura, but he treated Lourde like shit & I can’t believe they she constantly went back to him! The title is 100% accurate for this book because this was definitely LUST. I didn’t feel true love between the characters, and the chemistry was severely lacking. I also think with this being a forbidden romance the tension should’ve been much more palpable…
𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞: forbidden romance, lone-time crush, brothers best friend, rich mc’s, forced proximity, age gap
This was...not for me. Problematic themes, poorly written, and with little to no chemistry between the m/f, the complete lack of an ending (less a cliffhanger and more an ends mid scene) felt like the final insult. I won't be reading more of this series.
Lourde is a smart and beautiful young women. Her mom keeps setting her up with the “right” type of guy and that keeps ending badly. Lourde however has had her eye on Barrett Black, her brother’s best friend. Barrett is a smart, handsome and successful guy. He could have his pick of women. Although he is attracted to Lourde he has managed to stay away out of loyalty for his best friend Conner. Until one day when things change and they end up staying together that’s when the fireworks and mutual attraction they can’t keep apart. I love Forbidden Love. The chemistry between the two, is explosive, it’s sexy and has a great storyline. It was fun seeing them get jealous of each other even though they weren’t officially together. I can’t wait to see what happens with Barrett and Lourde in Forbidden Love!!
This book is STEAMY HOT!! The chemistry between Lourde Diamond, longstanding, unspoken affection for Barrett Black—her brother’s enigmatic and self-made millionaire best friend—serves as the story’s focal point. An unexpected encounter in the Hamptons, following a personal setback, propels Lourde and Barrett into a shared space, intensifying their concealed emotions. Despite an eight-year age difference and the looming shadow of familial obligations, their mutual attraction becomes increasingly palpable.
This book offers a steamy and emotionally charged exploration of a forbidden romance set against the backdrop of Manhattan’s elite society. While it presents familiar tropes, Walker’s storytelling imbues them with fresh energy, making it a worthwhile read for enthusiasts of contemporary romance.
Barrett is all hard and gruff and brooding, Lourde is the perfect socialite daughter. The only problem she wants more! She is more … and she has more to offer.
This forbidden love is everything 🥰, the two of them together are compelling.
This ending though…. No no no you did not just leave me on a cliff hanger!!
Off to get Forbidden Love book 2 Elite Men of Manhattan series.
Short book, only around 200 pages. The story does end on a cliff hanger that will continue in book two, so at least there’s more to Lourde and Barrett’s story.
Overall, I thought the story flowed nicely with just the right amount of spice with plot.
The story is… okay. The lack of editing is… yikes. There are randomly placed commas that do not serve a purpose. The dialogue has questions and answers that don’t make sense. Last, but not least… to/too and your/you’re errors? Really?
My actual rating for this book is 3.75. I definitely enjoyed it. I could have done without the self-loathing, and I also felt that if it were going to be an enemy to lovers they could have expanded on it.
I did like the small plot twists, and there were quite a few smut scenes once it got started. I can also appreciate NO unwanted pregnancy tropes. I would recommend this book if someone were looking for this specific genre, but not as one of my favs. It's also not a re-read for me. I can also appreciate the author NOT rushing the story and continuing with a second book. I wish there was a bit more of an explanation for some things (Lourdes Parents, and more on Barret's backstory) but I didn't find the story lacking because of it.
If you like brothers best friend forbidden romance, you'll enjoy this one.
Story:⭐⭐⭐⭐ Trope: age gap/brothers best friend Smexy:🔥🔥🔥 POV: First person Triggers: Sexual assault (startling forced drunk unwanted kissing by ex) The scene is small but can be a trigger! middle of chap10
Lourde & Barrett's story is an 8yr Age gap, older brothers best friend, self made millionaire, semi bad boy, forbidden, steamy love story with a HFN cliffhanger ending.
Lourde comes from a wealthy family who has her life planned out for her, which makes her unhappy. Her mother is hell bent on an arranged marriage. Lourde wants to work for her family's company and find her own love but is afraid to stand up to her family....so she goes with the flow, which backfires and brings her face to face with her long time crush! Barrett is Lourde's brothers best friend, who has a dark family past and is a smart, Sexy, self made millionaire. He wants Lourde something fierce BUT, one he doesn't think he is good enough for her because of his past and two she is his best friends sister.
In the beginning it was a tad slow and there is a 5 year jump between the first two chapters. Other then that the story flows well and we get both Lourde and Barrett's point of view. Lourde knows what she wants and is on a mission to get him!!! The sex scenes are 🔥hot🔥 & Barrett knows his way around the bedroom!
When I reached the end I yelled, "NOOO, what is going on?!?!" So it's safe to say the end is a mild HFN cliffhanger and has you ready to read the next book!!
This is the first book I have read written by Missy Walker and I really enjoyed her writing style. I look forward to reading her other books! I definitely recommend Forbidden Lust!
I received an ARC for my honest review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
“‘Only you, Lourde. Otherwise, kissing was off the menu with all women.’”
Let me tell you this story is amazing!! Definitely has the best kind of trope Brothers Best Friend and let’s not forget the 8 year age gap between the two.
Lourde Diamond was born into old money, some would say she had it all. Money, happy family, an equally rich boyfriend and beauty. But everything isn’t always as it seems. Her life is planned out for her, and her mother is hell bent on arranged marriage and women in the family not working. Lauren wants to choose who she loves and she wants to work for her family’s company, she wants a part in their legacy. She’s afraid to keep standing up for what she wants… well that was until she caught her boyfriend having sex with another women.
Barrett Black, is a self made millionaire, he didn’t come from any money. He was a mystery to all, he never talked about his family {expect the few times he would bring up his sister but not to many}. He stayed to himself for the most part, he did sleep around though.
Lourde has always had a one sided crush on this mysterious man. The biggest problem though is her brother, aka Barrett’s best friend.
But after checking her ex cheating on her during her vacation and not wanting to go home just yet. She is left with one option; stay with Barrett until she’s ready to go home.
And we all know what happens when we put them under one roof together….
This story was the first story of Missy Walker I’ve read but I can insure it won’t be my last, especially with that ending {girl imma need the next one ASAP}! I highly recommend this story to all!!
Forbidden Lust is not a stand alone contemporary romance and each book should be read in order and the prequel and this book has a cliff hanger. This book is a forbidden, best friends little sister who is 8 years younger trope. It's a steamy, angst and drama filled story that picks up 5 years later from the "prequel".
Lourde Diamond is a Manhattan princess that comes from old money and her mother wants to dictate every part of her life. You would think that she would be happy with her care free life but she would love to be independent and work. Lourde also has a crush on her brother's older best friend, always has and when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her Barrett Black comes to her rescue...again
Barrett Black is a self made millionaire with a dark past and is very mysteriously controlled. He's always been attracted to his best friend's little sister, she's beautiful but forbidden...until he lets her move in for the summer.
Lourde thinks Barrett doesn't want her, but she's very wrong. He has fantasies of her screaming his name night after night. He knows he can't have her, he's not good enough, but when she has the idea of a summer fling, he can't stop with just one touch.
Merged review:
Forbidden Lust is the prequel book to the Elite Men of Manhattan series and it has age gap, brothers best friend and a forbidden trope. This is a great start to this series but be warned it has a cliff hanger but the story is so addicting that you better have the next book already bought...
I love this series they are short books so it will take you either a day or two to read. Brother best friend and younger sister who hate each other. This book got me into all my feelings and love it
So! This was my first time reading Missy Walker and I quite enjoyed this story! Or rather, most of the story, because honestly, there was one character I really, REALLY wanted to throat-punch for the sole purpose of keeping the family name all pre and whatnot. Like, boy boo, this isn’t the 15th century, get it together and leave her be!
Now, I loved the chemistry and push and pull between Lourde and Barrett; talk about all kinds of smexy hot, especially once Barrett finally listened to his heart. They really are good for each other, despite the age difference. There are still a few secrets and questions that need to addressed and I can’t wait to see how things will play and if these two will get their HEA.
A little romance between her and her brother’s best friend, with an 8 year age gap and a lot of emotional baggage which we love, obviously💁🏻♀️ Although it was a little blah, it was mostly enjoyable but not worth 4/5 stars. I do love how her dad is switched on enough to know what’s going on, cheeky bugger!
But good god, what a terrible choice of names.. maybe it’s just me as I have no idea how to say her name and for that reason my mind keep reading it as “Lord-E”… irritating the absolute shit of me hahaha
Anyway… A pet hate of mine is when an author refers to a dick as “man meat or meat stick” 🤮 I’m now adding the pet name doll face… nope absolutely not🥴
I didn’t hate it however it seems that Forbidden Lust & Forbidden Love were originally one book and it was cut to make two, which made it frustrating. The story is basic and only starts to draw you in with anticipation in the final pages where it abruptly stops, not even leaving you on a cliff hanger, just disappointed. I enjoyed it for a mindless, quick read.
Some grammatical errors show up to the end of the book as well, like the editor got two-thirds of the way through the book and gave up.
This series was me dipping my toes into romance books and it did not disappoint! Barrett Black is a gorgeous man (in my head) and I loved the way everything unfolded. The rest of the series was a no brainer for me after the first book 😍
I came across your books by accident, and so I thought I would give 1 a try, and what can I say this book is great, very well thought of story and kept you wondering what was going to happen, definitely worth the read, now to find the next chapter. Thank you.
Pros: - This is the first time I’ve truly felt like I wasn’t reading fictional characters but actual people. They were raw, flawed, and rough around the edges, yet still incredibly compelling. I never once felt like their actions were forced for the sake of drama.
- This is how you write about fkin billionaires in my opinion
- The push-and-pull and the chemistry was wholesome. There was never a dull moment, and their interactions had just the right balance of intensity and depth.
- the books didn’t rely on over-the-top angst or forced emotional twists, yet it still kept me completely invested. The way the romance unfolded felt natural and unforced.
- it’s not often I read a book that gets relationships this right. The dynamics, the dialogue, the emotional weight behind every moment—it all just worked. Even if i read those before, it reminds me so much of the Addicted Series
Cons: - Not emotionally heavy, but that’s not a flaw – While the book wasn’t emotionally brutal the way some of my favorites are, it was never meant to be. I wouldn’t call this a con exactly, but I did wish for just a bit more emotional depth in some moments.
- Some parts could’ve gone deeper – There were moments where I felt like the story was about to explore something more raw, more intense, but it stopped just short. A little more depth in certain character arcs would’ve pushed this even higher for me.
- I wanted more – Not in a “the book felt incomplete” way, but in a “I could read about these characters forever” way. Their dynamic was that good
