Nicky Marino's life suits her, or at least it would if her mom would stop nudging the beta about her dating slump. Now that her brother Sidney's gotten hitched, the pressure's on - and a new night shift job at the library makes for a tempting sanctuary.
All's quiet until an unexpected encounter leads to another...and another..and suddenly Nicky finds herself snagging the interest of an entire pack - and unwanted attention from someone she'd rather forget.
A six-way tale of blazing-hot encounters, tender affection, kinky fun, and self-discovery, Nicky and the Night Owls is a sweet omegaverse story you'll want to curl up with all night long. So go ahead - grab a cup of coffee and your favorite pastry: it's time to meet the pack.
The warmest, caringest, most welcoming romance novel I've ever lost myself in. And there's a whole second part still to look forward to!
Nicky is 33 years old. She lives in a flat with her cat, Spud, and she is close to her family. She hasn't been lucky in love and spent several years in a relationship before coming to her senses and extricating herself from a situation that was not right for her. Now she works the nightshift in a new 24-hour programme at a library, where she meets Billie...
Billie is immediately infatuated with Nicky. Over several shifts Nicky and Billie get to know each other and Nicky learns that Billie is non-binary, and that they are part of a pack of five, a polyamorous relationship comprising three males, one female and Billie.
This is a contemporary omegaverse story. The setting is our real world with recognizable technology, lifestyles and geography but with changes to how interpersonal relationships work. This was my first real experience of this popular setting and the book does a marvellous job explaining how everything works without getting bogged down in too much worldbuilding.
I've been waiting what feels like a long time for stories to appear featuring my ideal for polyamory, in which a pansexual group comprising multiple members of more than one gender all committed to one another. Sierra Cassidy has given us that and it is exactly what I hoped.
With six participants in the relationship there are a lot of steamy scenes in this book involving some or all six characters, all deliciously told, but being a longer read there is time too for us to meet all six characters and for them each to build a relationship with Nicky, who is the catalyst for the story and from whose point of view we experience a large portion of the story - though not all, we do get to hear from all six pack members.
With a sweet, lovable cast, lots of steamy sex and a worrisome threat from Nicky's past to overcome, this was pretty much a perfect read for me. Everything wraps up in a satisfying "happy for now" ending (with an optional first chapter preview-and-cliffhanger from the second part of the story, something I chose to forego until the book is available).
It was ok. Nicky was annoying AF with her whole back and forth crap especially after they gave her a damn room and during the heat. She just seemed so naive and stupid. I dunno. I will prob read book 2 but felt like this book was way longer than it needed to be.
This was a very sweet book. I loved all the representation and how they handled their relationship. This was one of the most well done polyamorous relationship I’ve read. This book heavily focuses on just the 5 people in the relationship dating Nicky. There isn’t much conflict within the relationship but there is outside conflict. I can see how some may find this one boring as it is over 500 pages but I really liked it!
This is by far one of my favourite books of the year!
The connection Nicky shared with the pack - Billie, Tony, Jasper, Gabe and Hana is just lovely. I love the adoration and support they share with one another, perfectly balancing out on the poly aspect in this book.
In other words, go pre-order this book right now 🔫 Coming out in August 6th >:D
Take this review with a grain of salt, I have things I personally just don't like/can't enjoy in books and this book has it, so I just couldn't get past it: FF and insta love
I love Omegaverse, and I love a good omegaverse from a Betas view so I was so excited to start this one! Sadly, I'm not a fan of fem love interests, and I feel like that should be something that's in the blurb or synopsis. I do understand its a little bit of a gray area, because Billie uses they/them pronouns. But FF romance is just a huge turn off for me. I can do MF and MM but my brain automatically flips the "off" switch at FF and disconnects me.
I read a shit ton of reverse harems, and normally I just steer clear of a book if it says it has an FF pairing in it, I dont want to lower the rating of a book that I know before going in I won't vibe with. But I was unable to do that with this book, because there was no mention of a Fem love interest until we actually get there in the book.
I hate insta love, and this book just moved so fucking fast, just "See hot people from across the room and oop- now I'm wet." Like what?!
Too long. Like. SO SO LONG for no pay off. I KNOW it’s part one of two but the “bad guy” was sparse and the communication was none and the spice was ok but not great. Sweet OmegaVerse are either 10/10 or 5/10 or 1/10. This one was a 5 due to the fact that I DID want to know what happened next but i VERY easily was able to walk away from the book. This thing took me FIVE DAYS to finish. For me that’s CRAZY long. Like 4 days too long. So. I’ll honestly probably not be back for book two. 🤷🏻♀️
I love this story! I relate to Nicky on several levels and I loved watching her come out of her shell to enjoy new people and experiences. I loved the addition of a person who is non-binary, in addition to the bisexual representation from the rest of the pack. The spicy scenes were fantastic, and the drama and intrigue of the plot kept the pages turning!
Book: OH YOU WANT SMUT!? I CAN GIVE YOU SMUT! EVERY CHAPTER! SMUUUUUT! Me: umm... is there any plot? Book: Plot? Me: ... Book: ... Me: Like a story? Book: ohhhhhhh. Book: ... Me: ... Book: ...Does there.... is there supposed to be a story? Me: I mean it would be nice? Book: ok... well I guess I can do that, but its MOSTLY about the smut.
So... It wasn't amazing. But everything was consensual, and it was pretty representative. So that was good. Overall, definitely not the worst thing I've read in the last year, and if you want just pure smut, good communication, and very minimal drama that is pretty quickly resolved, you've come to the right place.
This is SMUT. If you want like a plot- don’t go searching here. But the characters are all very intriguing and lovely. Who knows if I will read part two.
I adored reading the different types of dynamics in this book. The characters are developed so well and I am a sucker for it! Can't wait for the next book!
This is it, folks. It's the one. Every chef's kiss. I can't count the number of people who've told me they want a book of LGBTQ+ characters going out and doing things without something coming up because of their orientation and this is IT. Hella sweet. Super comfort read. Star eyes and heart eyes everywhere.
To get into it a bit: the titular character Nicky has just started working night shift at a local recreation center's library. While there she spots and is spotted by two members of a pre-established pack and the three hit it off. Nicky grows as a person while progressively meeting each member and getting to know them. There is a thing from her past that comes to test them, but it just makes the book that much better, especially if you love this in your romance reads.
It is better to go in a bit blind as you meet everyone through Nicky's eyes (even though it is a multiple POV), but you might want to check out the CW if needed. I promise it will be okay and nothing too terrible happens, but it's sometimes good to know if you need that.
Spice is very nice. Six people in a polyam group? You know it's going to be fun. 4/5 spicy bois for this one.
Also shout out to some of my faves: Spud the kitty, Jasper my sweet bebe baker omega and Billie the chaos magic beta. Do be aware, though: I loved absolutely everyone, but I want to keep the rest a supreez.
Absolutely adored this read. Even though it's part one, it does end in a HFN with a cliffhanger if you check out the sneak peek for the next part. If you enjoyed Lola and the Millionaires and have been looking for something similar in the OV world, this is your book. Pure comfort and hugs. Do a pre-order if that's still available, order it if not, or check it out on KU. You'll be every happy that you did. Brb going to go do a reread because I already miss everyone.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. Extremely spicy with many varied scenes, but interesting plot and emotional development as well. The sex and love is a bit instant, but the polyamory representation and juggling of the relationship is done well in the short timeframe.
Before I get into this next part: I am a queer genderqueer (also polyamorous) person in a sapphic relationship with a trans woman, and that is the experience I speak from.
The only thing that frustrated me a bit was the queer (not the polyam though!) representation. Two characters are non-binary. One is introduced with they/them pronouns, and throughout the whole book with so much development otherwise nothing about their identity is mentioned again. While I loved that it is accepted it’s unreasonable to think they never think about or discuss their identity with their partners at all. Besides the pronouns I didn’t find their characterization and experience to be different from a cis woman’s. Another is introduced with he/they pronouns, and they/them pronouns are not used for them once in the entire text as far as I saw, nor is there any other mention of him being non-binary or having any experience other than what you’d expect for a cis man except one instance of being referred to as Mx. instead of Mr. I’m queer and it’s a big part of my life. Thinking about and exploring my identity brings me joy and would even in a world where it was completely normalized. It’s just weird and felt like the author including non-binary people with no understanding of the non-binary experience specifically or trans experience overall.
One final, minor gripe is that the pack has a tortie cat who is male, but the fact that the uniqueness and extreme rarity of this is never mentioned makes me assume it was a complete oversight and lack of knowledge on the author and editor’s parts.
HOLY MACARONI PEOPLE!!! I was BLOWN away! This is a chunky book and I still kept looking at the page number while reading and being sad that I was closer to the end.
You know the feeling of “screw the consequences, I’m not sleeping tonight because I HAVE to keep reading this book” This was me as soon a I started. I will be at work tomorrow with zero sleep but I don’t even care. Okay, on to the book. Nicky rocked! She felt so real and relatable in so many of her interactions. Through this book we see her grow as she opens herself up to love (and lots of kinky sex😉) and finally finds her place in the world. All of the characters rocked. This was so sweet and safe and heartwarming. My biggest concern going into this was the fact that there were other female (and non binary with female sex organs) in the polycule and I tend to like our main character to be the only female being intimate with the males in the group. This book certainly taught me that I really really do like this trope- as long as it’s written well. This book had multiple kinks covered (safely), loving and thorough aftercare, and an emphasis on consent. The sex was really great in this book, and there was lots of it. All of our main characters were well flushed out. They were mature adults living productive lives. They were loving and sexy and ugh I just love them all! Several gender identities were represented in this book in a very easy and smooth way. Allowing the author to integrate this great representation without it being overwhelming to someone that may be completely ignorant of it. Overall, we had
I’m ready for more please!!🤲🤲🤲🤲 Would absolutely recommend.
Not for me - Nicky is such a boring fmc to me and with at least six main characters it made it hard for me to get around to liking her. Her and Billie were just not my cup of tea, which was a bummer since the others were quite interesting but not enough so for me to push through.
In terms of relationships this was a very well rounded book in the sense that everyone was A+ at communicating and consent (the book is mostly sex so that is a rare find for omegaverse) - but apparently I’ve discovered a toxic trait of my own, because I found this to be extremely boring. In the real world - great, love it - here I felt we all loved each other from the jump and outside of a weak stalker plot device there was no conflict here.
Last thoughts - someone give redemption to Jasper for having the great misfortune of being described as looking like a carnival ring master complete with a red handle bar mustache. Poor guy.
Cons: Nicky is pretty annoying. Sex was meh. I was surprised to see a lot of people in the comments say how steamy this was but to me it was just meh. There was a lot of sexual situations sure, but the writing felt detached and I couldn’t feel the heat.
Pros: each character felt unique. In RH sometimes characters get blobbed together and you can’t tell them apart. This book was good about giving each pack member a unique personality.
3.75 ⭐️ The cover is criminal, but the book's not bad at all.
I mean, it's an omegaverse romance with a big pack. Meaning, there's lots of people and tons of fun.
Nicky(she/her), is a beta on her second day as a night librarian when she meets Billie (they/them -beta) and Tony (he/they -alpha). When Billie get a pretty immediate gigantic-sized crush on Nicky, they instantly start picturing what it would be like to date the cute beta, even if they're not sure how the rest of their pack will handle it. Still, the pack trust them and fairly quickly, Tony, Jasper (he/him -omega) and Gabe (he/him -alpha) are just as enthralled as Billie with Nicky being introduced into their pack. Hana (she/her -alpha) however, does not take kindly to someone new coming in and changing her pack's dynamics.
It's interesting, and I love that it fits perfectly in the genre without involving the same kind of character dynamics or falling into gender stereotypes.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - It is what it is. All the spice and then some. There's BDSM scenes and D/s dynamics.
I enjoyed the queer representation, the different dynamics in the pack and the relationship progression with Nicky and her pack. I also liked the plot and the HFN this first book ended up in and the villain things was alright.
The book is very spicy and everyone gets their moment separately and together. I wasn’t the biggest fan of some of the smutty moments as I felt more discussion was needed. The heat was well done though and I especially liked Jasper and Gabe in and out of heat. I’m not too sure if I will continue into the next book as I felt things were left in a good point for the entire pack.
Sweet Omegaverse novel that features consent and belonging. I liked that the FMC was not a virgin and was in her thirties. There was way more girl on girl action than I normally like, but once the story got going I got used to it. Wheels10
Nicky and the Night Owls follows night librarian, Nicky. As a beta she has accepted her minimal dating life and embraces life as it us. Yet, an unlikely meeting comes to pass and we see Nicky embraced by a pack who have all the love to share. Toss in some political intrigue and angry exes and you get a wonderful Omegaverse story that makes you feel all the warm and fuzzies.
"God. That smile was dangerous. I was not remotely equipped to be around this level of beautiful."
This medium burn “why choose” romance falls within the Omegaverse, which means the designations of Alpha, Betas, and Omegas and all the entails. I appreciated that these designations were not the only labels on the characters who were developed in strong characters with wills of their own. This is also a multiple POV book so you get to experience how each member in the pack sees and feels about this growing relationship. The spice contains f/f, f/m, f/m/f, and more, with six people in this relationship so you are going to get a nice variety of spice. There is some control in the bedroom for certain characters but consent is key.
We also have a good amount of LGBTQ+ representation in this book and the care in the writing made them sweet and enjoyable to follow. You can see the characters all working together to navigate this relationship and while there are some hang-ups they didn’t frustrate me too much. Billie was my favourite character with their enthusiasm and role as the glue of the pack which I like as a rejig of the omega pack idea.
I did find the outer plot elements (ie the ex-boyfriend and the political part) needing a bit more fleshing out as I felt it was kind of left behind at points and then thrown out again. I feel the second part may explain this more as it kind up blew up towards the end.
Overall if you’re looking for a cosy Omegaverse with plenty of spice and a sweet storyline then this is a great option. It has the vibes of Lola but time will tell (ie. Part 2) if it can fully compete. You can complete this as a standalone but there is a bonus chapter for part two that adds a cliffhanger. I do have the next book saved on my TBR for when it releases as I am curious to see how this grows!
This is a very cozy read! I love the communication between all of the members of the pack and I really appreciate the diversity of the main characters in race, gender, and sexuality.
I saw a review for this book from TikTok, comparing it to Lola and the millionaires and knew I had to check it out. If you have read anything by Kathryn moon, especially Lola and the millionaire I would suggest checking this out. The spice in this is amazing, and starts pretty much from the beginning. If you like a omega-verse book with lots of spice and fluff, and minimal conflict (One scary ex), this is the book for you. Nicky is a Librarian who works the night shift, and begins to fall in love with a beta and their pack. I finished this book in 2 days, and can't wait to read the second one!
Polycule for the win? I should say so! I did receive this as an ARC for an honest review. So, she’s a librarian who works at night (my dream job as a kid) and she meets a couple. Whom both like her. They also have other loves in their lives. Whom might want to meet her. I love the different designations of each person. One wasn’t better than the other because of it. Like polyamory? Spice of all kinds? Crazy ex problems? There’s also some intrigue going on but I’ll let you find out what’s going on.
This is my first sweet omegaverse, and in some ways, it was interesting. The sex was pretty smokin. The pack concept and the characters themselves were interesting, too. The writing overall was good, although the pacing was sssslllloooowwww after.
I give this book 2 stars for several reasons. The FL, Nicky, was awful. Talk about a doormat! She wasn't remotely interesting. She displayed not one iota of personal growth. Her character was extremely YA, which made no sense for someone supposedly 33. I kept feeling she was too young for sex, such was her immaturity.
Next, for a book so over-the-top concerned with CONSENT, so much so that it was constant at evervy single of the many encounters, Nicky apparently didn't once deal with real enotional issues. This made the crappy villain episode at the end so frustrating. She left with the bad guy when he told her they were leaving. She got in his car. She willingly went to his house, got out, walked into the house, and sat there when he told her how things were going to go. And that was the latest of several similar episodes with this villain. On top of that, she never addressed her mom's continuing to give the villain her information simply because she wanted Nicky to commit to someone. Her family dynamics gave her many opportunities to address these things, yet nothing.
But the author can't have things both ways. You can't discuss consent over and over and over and over and over, then build your main FL into an automaton that accepts everything without a solid yes and/or no. It made no sense and was incredibly annoying. This feeds into the point about how the FL showed zero personal growth in this book. The lesson of stating your feelings was made to her from the very beginning yet she continued to let others make all her decisions, then complained about the outcomes. That's just wrong.
I can't even imagine what a SECOND BOOK would be about.
Nicky and the Night owls is exactly what I didn’t know I was looking for! Main fmc around my age. A pack dynamic that grows organically with little windows into how Nicky interacts with all the pack members. Fast paced and spicy yet leaves you wanting more!
I have read various Omegaverse books that follow a similar theme before. Nowadays, it's become common to feature betas as main characters. I welcome this change because love and attention should not only be reserved for alphas and omegas, while betas are relegated to the sidelines. This addition makes the story more realistic.
Usually, I'm not a big fan of FF content, and I prefer MM instead. However, if FF is well-executed, I don't mind it. In my opinion, love is love, and it can be shared however you want with whoever you want. That's it.
What I really appreciate about this story is how inclusive it is, with an emphasis on caring, consent, and the sharing of love in any way possible. This aspect of the story is a huge positive for me. I was also happy to see that the characters are not young adults but in their thirties with life experience. Although I don't mind young people, being 33 years old myself, I can relate better to characters with more life experience.
I can completely relate to Nicky because she is similar to me in many ways. She's a bit shy, insecure, lacks self-confidence, and has had some bad experiences in the past. Her love of books and desire to work in a library at night is something I could see myself doing, although I never pursued a librarian education. However, I'm a night owl through and through, and that's when I'm at my best. One difference between us is that she struggles with not knowing what she wants and not communicating her issues with the pack enough.
For example, she knew she was in love with them early on, but she was too afraid to talk about it. I understand the anxiety part because I also struggle with anxiety, but I hate staying in that state. The only way to overcome something like that is to confront the issue head-on and talk about it. I get that it's not easy for Nicky, but I prefer to know where I stand and in which direction things are moving.
Some things were pretty clear to me, but Nicky was still insecure about them. For instance, when the pack surprised her with her own room, it was an action that spoke volumes and said, "We want you to stay." However, she didn't see it as a sign that they wanted her to be part of the pack. She needs them to spell it out for her. Again, I understand insecurity because I also need to know that I'm important to people, and it's soothing to hear them say it. But I always communicate my needs from the beginning and also make sure to listen to others' needs, even if it's just with friends. They are significant to me, too. It wasn't a major issue for me because, as I said, I can understand her reasoning, but it can be annoying sometimes.
Overall, it was a great start to the story, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had previously read Allie's and Sidney's story from this author, and I wasn't impressed by it. Therefore, I was unsure if I wanted to read Nicky's story. But I'm glad I did.
I loved all the characters because they were unique and had their own struggles. Billie was refreshing and bubbly, and I liked them immediately. They were a force of nature to others. Tony was caring and very invested in well-being, both physically and emotionally. The same goes for Gabe, who was sweet with all of them and had a special bond with Hana. She was also special in the story, being more cautious than the others, which is often used in RH Omegaverse. But it fits well and was well-explained for me. And then there's Jasper, the lovable omega with a passion for baking that I adored.
As usual, there were some parts that I could predict easily, but I also had some surprises along the way. Overall, the story hit all the right points for me. The chemistry was on point, the emotions and feelings were big, the plot line was solid, and the characters were unique.
I appreciated that the author didn't end the story with a cliffhanger, and gave readers the option to stop at that point. Although there was a bonus chapter at the end that served as a cliffhanger for part two, there was a warning beforehand. Fortunately, the second part is already out, so I can continue reading after finishing this review.
