yall better buckle up because this will be a long ass review. i have a lot of thoughts i need to get out and goodreads is my perfect place to do that. imaging being able to write such good character development that the most red flagged man to ever exist goes from

this author is a genius because i genuinely think this is a masterpiece. for one, the author even had the balls to write a story like this in the first place. because holy shit, some really fucked up things happened in this. two, they created the most cruel, psychotic, selfish, awful, horrendous, ruthless man killed to ever exist and turn him into a lovesick fool who goes as far to get himself kidnapped so taekjoo can save him. somehow without the development feeling rushed and unrealistic. if you are looking for a book where the central theme is he changes for him. this is it. and the pure audacity to write the character development so realistically. this is the type of book you can pick out certain parts where you see things change for both characters (with regards to their feelings for each other and their own individual development). it's small things here and there and they gradually get bigger as the story goes on. it's the type of book you could constantly reread and pick out new things each time. they are the type of couple that is action >>>> words, and the epitome of saying "i love you" without saying those exact words. the way the author did the parallels between zhenya and taekjoo's relationship and koschei's tale? speechless. 🤯

i feel a lot of people will read this and be like, how did they actually fall in love? this may not be entirely what i was supposed to see when reading the novel but this is what i got from it, and i'm still trying to understand their relationship. so here is my interpretation ✨

➵ how they fell in love.

zhenya was raised in a mafia family where the only acceptable way to be is the monsters of all monsters. no one interacts with zhenya because they either fear him or hate him. it's known that he has 'Anastasia' so people try to kill him or die trying. if someone thinks they have the upper hand on him, it's because that's how zhenya wants them to see it. he can break and manipulate anyone easily and because of this no one holds his attention. there is no one who is on the same playing field as him. he uses people as he pleases for his own gain and then discards them when he gets what he wants from them. when taekjoo comes into the picture, zhenya is quickly intrigued by how strong willed taekjoo is and no matter what zhenya would do, taekjoo never up. this is why his interest doesn’t fade like every other person. zhenya has a very sick way of thinking but his feelings do to turn genuine. especially on the island. zhenya is actually very lonely, has never had friendship, doesn't know what it's like to be loved, and doesn't know what it's like to do normal mundane things. so on his task to "master" taekjoo, he ends up finding out a lot about him, they talk to each other, they go fishing, hunting, and do actual normal insignificant things together. and for the first time ever, zhenya feels happiness. zhenya has an obsessive personality, so of course he was going to do anything in his power to keep that feeling forever.

for my precious taekjoo, one of the most fantastic characters i've ever encountered. he's a korean spy, so his job consumes his life. he has his mother who is the only person he makes an effort to see even though his job is demanding and it can have him gone for months at a time. he's lonely like zhenya. zhenya fell for taekjoo's resilience first and then became physically attracted to him. i definitely think the start of taekjoo's falling for zhenya started with his physical attraction to zhenya (taekjoo even takes pictures of zhenya when he is sleeping 😭😭😭). zhenya has ethereal beauty, so there were multiple moments where taekjoo is like "why am i so attracted to a man's body." i mean who wouldn’t? but anyway, in the first volume, they had some really genuine conversations i was not expecting, taekjoo was able to talk to zhenya about stuff he's never told anyone before. i think zhenya's falling is noticeable and easier to point out, whereas taekjoo's was much more subtle. like if you blink you would miss it. eventually zhenya stops trying to break taekjoo and started doing things to show he cares for him. there was so many gestures that zhenya did for taekjoo on that island that zhenya would NEVER do for anyone. and taekjoo was able to realize that. as zhenya got softer for him, taekjoo saw another side to him, and he started to fall in love.

there are both complex characters and have so many layers to them, i could talk forever. nothing i will say will give them true justice.

if you are hesitant to read this book, in my opinion, it's worth it just for this. this is my favorite part of the whole book and the reason why i think this author is a genius. i won't even bother to explain how koschei's tale (a fictional russian folk tale) is related to zhenya and taekjoo's relationship. there is a tik tok that perfectly explains it here that will say it in better words than i could ever. i beg you, if you read this novel, you need to watch this tik tok. it has serious spoilers so watch afterwards!

all i will say is, zhenya gives his only weakness to taekjoo and i'm still crying days later.

this is a love story at the heart but there is tons of action and lots of plot outside the romance. so if you prefer a good balance of both, i would definitely recommend this. however, please check the trigger warnings, i can't express that enough. i really need to stop here. this is already too long. i will go back into my codename anastasia coma now.

i have lost sleep and my sanity after reading this. the fact they have come so fucking far will never leave my mind. the complete 180 their relationship did surprise the hell out of me. i genuinely couldn't believe what i was reading. who would have thought the blackest flag to ever exist could turn out to be such a sulking baby and be so in love. zhenya got shot but he is so insatiable for taekjoo he HAS to have him, which he does. however, do to over excretion and blood loss he passes out directly afterwards. my man did not give a shit that he was literally BLEEDING out. the way he was ready to risk it all. i just know if zhenya was about to go down, he would go down having sex with taekjoo. it would be his last wish. his unhinged personality will never fail to make me laugh.

by far my fav volume yet.
they destroyed me and i will never recover 💔 how was this even more traumatizing and heartbreaking than the second volume? i thought it wasn't going to get any worse but i was wrong. we had so many revelations in this though. zhenya's behaviour is completely changing towards taekjoo. his character developing is happening slowly (which makes sense because he is a vile psychopath) and seeing him struggle with his feelings and not knowing what to do about it, felt like an award. but we’re definitely at the point now where i think zhenya’s has realized his feelings. i'm so happy with how everything is happening. zhenya became very soft in this? can i say that? as soft as you think a psychopath can be.

PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN PAIN. i knew that was coming but it did not make it hurt any less. i honestly don't think a character can get anymore red flag than zhenya. he is a psychopath for sure, but his character is so complicated and he seems to have so many layers. i love how taekjoo is making him feels things he has never felt before. when he put his fur coat on taekjoo? ahhhjsjdjsj i lost it- and zhenya asking taekjoo to take a bath with him? plsssss i can’t- i don't care what anyone says, zhenya is down bad for taekjoo he just doesn't realize it yet.

okayyyy wow, i am genuinely surprised with how good this was. there was way too much action than what i'm used to but after i was about halfway through, i was fully invested. i didn't think there would be much romance in the first part, but we definitely got the start of something here. the tension was insane, especially in the train scene. i love taekjoo, he's a total badass. zhenya is very mysterious and he scares me a bit....but i can't wait to find out more about him. i know zhenya is the reddest flag around (he's really a black flag), and i'm aware of the future TWs and what's to come....but the little bonding moments between them were so cute. their conversations and how taekjoo doesn't talk about his family, but he did with zhenya. i have a lot of questions and i can’t wait till we get more reveals along the way. so i’m ready to see what happens next. i know these two are going to crush me.

Waouh, I finished codename Anastasia, and I have a lot to say. First before reading the novel, read the tags cause they are some things that Yk hmm hmm 🍇.
Anyway, I loved the story and the plot was really interesting. I love my man Taekjoo and everything about him. He’s powerful, smart, muscular and cool. As for Zhenya I hate him as much as I love him. His character is complex, and he become really cute with taekjoo in the end. But I still can’t forget all the rape scene. i really rwally really hope they are not as detailed in the manwha. They already were disgusting tk read, so i cant imagine what seeing them will be. I will alway say it, but olga is the realest on out here. The ending of the main story was honestly confusing, but after the side stroy, everything is better. Zhenya saying he'll always chase takejoo (in a good way) made my heart melt. The two of them being in love is just eveything.

I hope in the mawha, they add more of zhenya and olga's backstory. I really but really hope that the raped scene are not as detailed.

anyway to conclude, i really enjoyed the novel. Maybe ive cried a few time and really hated zhenya but still.

I hate this story. Even Killing Stalking had the "love interest" care about the wellbeing of the MC. If you like this story, Roses and Champagne is the exact same flavor. Do what you want with that information you animals.

Me gustó mucho la novela.

El desarrollo de la trama es muy interesante, aunque en algunos momentos puede sentirse un poco lento.

Me encantó que no encasillaran al protagonista en un rol femenino. Al contrario, ambos protagonistas se presentan como personajes muy masculinos.

Personalmente, me hubiera gustado más profundidad y desarrollo en el romance. Sin embargo, lo disfruté mucho.
No lo he leído aún, pero me han comentado que en el siguiente libro, (Estrella sin nombre), se desarrolla mucho más la relación.

La novela aborda algunos temas delicados, incluye contenido explícito y las primeras interacciones entre los protagonistas son bastante tóxicas. Por ello, definitivamente NO es un libro para todos. (Recomiendo revisar bien las advertencias antes de leerlo).

Vale la pena? Sí, de hecho, yo leí el manhwa pero no tenia mucho interés sobre las novelas debido a algunos comentarios, me dió la iniciativa de leerlo y me gusto genuinamente. Creo que lo mejor es que la problemática de ambos personajes no se arregla en 100 páginas, hay una historia larga para llegar a que estos dos descubran sus sentimientos. He de decir que no perdonó del todo a Zhenya, sus acciones son exageradamente cuestionables, pero me gusta las etapas que se mostró más adelante sobre este personaje. Y bueno, a mucha gente le gusta Taekjoo, yo no soy la excepción. Que buena historia, muy adictiva.

Taekjoo was raised by his mother after his father died in the military when he was young, leaving Taekjoo with little memory of him. His older brother later followed in their father's footsteps by joining the military, but ended up getting killed in action. An exceptional student, Taekjoo earned scholarships to some of the most prestigious schools in South Korea due to his intelligence. After graduating from high school, he attended college, where he was recruited by the South Korean National Intelligence Agency (the NIS). Taekjoo quickly rose through the ranks and was entrusted with a crucial mission: infiltrating Russian intelligence to gather information on a Russian weapon known as "Anastasia." For this mission, he was paired with a "partner," Zhenya. However, Taekjoo soon discovered that Zhenya was not who he seemed; he was, in fact, the notorious and dangerous "Psikh Bogdanov" (Psycho Bogdanov).

ZHENYA~

Zhenya is initially uncaring, but somewhat amused with Taekjoo and he eventually grows to be quite fond of him and finds his eagerness to stay alive entertaining. Their relationship eventually develops into a sexual, allies and a romantic one.

A rather dangerously cunning man with a big brain who knows literally everything, sharp, blunt and smart and can read his enemy like a book

Esto es adictivo. Literal ya voy por el segundo y solo quiero saber más, me encanta y eso que no soy muy fan de los rusos (va por caesar) pero me está gustando y por ahora zhenya no me está decepcionando, pero me da curiosidad; quiero saber quien es, que hace y el porque y de donde consigue tanta información y como se puede mezclar tan fácilmente entre todos. Quiero seguir leyendo y descubrir que es "anastasia". Literal me lo he leído en una noche porque paso de esperar el cómic.
Aunque, con total honestidad, zhenya tiene pinta de ser igual que caesar. Todo "normal" al principio y luego empieza lo tóxico.

sexual assault is not hot and it never will be... especially in this case where the sexual component feels so random to the actual spy/political plot happening and only exists to fetishize rape.

i am aware that my ability to stomach a lot of the more problematic sexual components of bls is because of my leniancy and familarity with the east asian 欲拒还迎 style of smut/romance. BUT in this manhwa's case , it just can't even be excused as anything other than rape fetishization? like there is no romantic angle to be found whatsoever.

Zhenya! This man is darkest black flag I have came across bl Manhwas! He has done so much questionable deeds that I'm probably traumatized for life. Though that's why I'm here, for all that trigger warning,lol. I love Zhenya's (love this name) shiny blue eyes and Taekjoo's tannesss...My poor Taekjoo! He didn't deserved all that, secret agent or not. Anyway, the story was worth reading, the plot and characters were well developed. The climax for me was when Taekjoo figured out Zhenya's real identity, and the cliffhanger was very cliffhanging! It's dark, it's spicy, it has comedic element, not much, and it's unhinged. So read it with your own discretion.

I think I'm exacting about continue the reading because the manhwa it's still on standby, I really want to discover the development between Zhenya and Taekjoo relationship, also I think I'm really into dark romance so it's no difficult to adjust my perspective. Also thinking I'm pretty satisfied with Boy season's writing.

I started reading the manhwa, but I got too addicted and read the novel instead waiting the season two, lolll.

Overall it was amazing, the characters are well written. It suites a dark yaoi romance aswell. Everyone is unhinged even does the MC.

Although, there are chapter that is very overwhelming (especially chp 40-45 manhwa) But yea, I already finished the novel.
