I stayed up all night to read this. Aside from it being a most aesthetically pleasing book filled with beautiful illustrations, it was a very lovely tribute to the great Audrey Hepburn. Her sophistication, class, style and overall beauty (inside and out) was very well represented. I myself have taken inspiration from her for my own style, and it was a treat for me to learn more about sweet Audrey.

Dieses Buch ist eher etwas für Menschen, die sich für das Abziehbild Audrey Hepburn interessieren. Die Zeichnungen sind schön, doch das stilisierte „Breakfast at Tiffany‘s“-Gesicht auf einem Kinderkörper oder an einer totkranken Frau wirken einfach grotesk…
Immerhin erfährt man als oberflächlicher Hepburn-Fan in diesem Buch auch etwas über ihr Kriegstrauma und ihre humanitäre Arbeit (denn vom Stil her hätte es auch nur auf ihre Hollywoodkarriere bezogen sein können). Diese „Aufklärungsarbeit“/Vollständigkeit sorgte für einen Extra-Stern in der Bewertung.
Für mich, die ich unzählige Bildbände, Biografien und quasi alle DVDs von Audrey besitze, war das Gros der Story natürlich bekannt. Dennoch gab es ein paar Kleinigkeiten, die mich überrascht haben, weil ich davon noch nie gehört hatte (dazu würden mich die Quellen interessieren…).
Alles in allem ein nettes Buch zum Verschenken (macht sich auch schön im Regal mit dem goldenen Farbschnitt), aber nichts für Menschen, die Audrey mehr als besonderen Mensch als als Mode-/Filmpüppchen bewundern.

Un libro preciosisimo. Con unas ilustraciones que me enamoraron a primera vista.
Mientras leía, buscaba imágenes de Audrey de las diferentes revistas y películas que se mencionaban, sumergiéndome más en la historia. Ya me gustaba la actriz, pero ahora me gusta muchísimo más.
Increíble. La única pega es que me gustaría que hubiese mas profundización en la historia de Audrey, pero al final la autora es ilustradora y había que dar paso a eso 🫶🏻

The text was decent, certainly informative, but it was the art that was the lovely part. I really enjoyed the artists versions of the many iconic outfits, onscreen and off. My one slight gripe was that once she reached adulthood, Audrey Hepburn never appeared to age, so it felt jarring to read of her later years when she appeared eternally 21.

Das ist eines der Bücher die mir mein Freund bei unserem ersten gemeinsamen Urlaub in München gekauft hat. Dieser Urlaub ist bis heute eine der schönsten Erinnerungen die ich habe. Allein deshalb würde ich dem Buch gerne schon eine 10/5 geben.
Ich liebe Audrey Hepburn, für mich ist sie eine der schönsten Frauen die jemals diese Welt bewohnt haben. Sie ist der Inbegriff von Eleganz. Geboren als Kind einer Niederländerin und eines Engländers, erlebte sie die Schrecken des 2. Weltkrieges als Kind hautnah mit. Nach dem Krieg hielt sie sich mit Gelegenheitsjobs als Tänzerin und Schauspielerin über Wasser, bis sie nach Amerika emigierte und dort ihren Duchbruch hatte. Bis heute ist ihr Bild untrennbar mit ihrer Rolle in Frühstück bei Tiffany verknüpft. Nach ihrer Schauspielkarriere setzte sie sich als Botschafterin bei UNICEF vor allem für das Wohl von Kindern ein. Die Rolle als Mutter war die Rolle ihres Lebens. Sie ist bis heute nicht nur eine Ikone sondern auch eine Legende.
In dem Buch gibt es verhältnismäßig wenig Text, es ist ein sehr verkürzter Abriss ihrer Biografie. Das ist aber ok, der Fokus in dem Buch liegt ohnehin mehr auf den Liebevoll gestalteten Illustrationen.
Ich liebe das Buch einfach runrum und kann es nur empfehlen.

Happy to read the book just after freshly released to market. The most beautiful thing about the book is its illustration, and the brief biography also leads you to insight of Audrey Hepburn life. She was not only marvellous beauty and legendary fashion icon but a good heart to willing help others in need. She dedicated final stage of the most of her life to those in need tirelessly as a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF and she had left great legacy of her own that still lives today.

Mon amour pour Audrey Hepburn était déjà inconditionnel mais alors LÀ ... Il n'a fait que décupler ! J'aime tout en elle : l'actrice, la danseuse - dont on a coupé les ailes -, l'icône de mode, la mère, la femme engagée pour l'Unicef ... Cet ouvrage, divinement bien illustré, retrace la vie de la star d'Hollywood avec pertinence et brio. J'ai découvert beaucoup d'éléments de sa vie, que je n'imaginais pas si rude, notamment ses souffrances de malnutrition lorsqu'elle avait seize ans et que le régime nazi bloquait les ravitaillements de nourriture. Les créateurs qui l'ont accompagnée tout au long de sa carrière sont tout aussi inspirants qu'elle ... Quelle admirable carrière ! J'ai adoré me replonger dans mes souvenirs de Vacances Romaines, Sabrina, Drôle de Frimousse, Diamants sur Canapé ou encore My Fair Lady ... Coup de coeur monumental !

I found this book in the library and fell immediately in love with it. It is so lovely Illustrated with gold pages and the drawings in it show a remarkable life story.
Audrey Hepburn is a beauty inside and out. She dedicated her life to film and fashion and later to humanitarian work.
Her story is one that has never been seen before and it is so nice to get to know her.

This could possibly be my favourite Megan Hess book ever! The teal/Tiffany Blue palette is particularly gorgeous, and every illustration just oozes Hepburn-esque charm. It's a completely delightful object.
I knew the basics of Audrey Hepburn's life, and much is made of her enduring partnership with Hubert Givenchy of course, but I didn't know about the particular role of serendipity and Colette in her fame. Or that she died of pseudomyxoma peritonei.

No se cuenta nada que no se sepa, los fans podrán recrearse en los dibujos de Hess y los momentos más icónicos de la actriz. 👗 Este es el cuarto libro que leo de la colección de moda prêt-à-porter, escrita e ilustradora Megan Hess que ha sacado Lunwerg en una edición impresionantemente bonita. En mi perfil encontrareis la reseña de París a través de la moda.
👗 En este libro nos relata, a través de letras e ilustraciones, la vida de esta actriz cuyo sueño desde pequeña era ser bailarina. Nunca había ahondado en su vida porque las biografías no son mi estilo pero he de decir que gracias a esta escritora, me estoy volviendo adicta (mentalmente porque económicamente no podría comprar ni los bajos de un vestido). Y no solo a la moda, si no al mundo que la rodea.
👗 A Audrey la conocemos como actriz y sobre todo por su película por excelencia Desayuno con diamantes. Pero no solo hizo películas, también interpretó personajes en obras de teatro. No destacaba frente a otras actrices pero siempre fue un icono y precisamente por su sencillez consiguió muchos papeles.
👗 Sin embargo, nunca se sintió cómoda dentro de ese mundo de glamour y poses para fotográfos. Era por así decirlo “más de andar por casa”. Y de hecho quería formar una familia, cosa que consiguió y eso la hizo muy feliz.
👗 Hay muchos aspectos de Audrey Hepburn que yo nunca habría podido imaginar y que me sorprendieron mucho y para bien. Debido a ser un libro ilustrado, la biografía está resumida pero Megan Hess, ha conseguido contar lo importante pero sin dejarse algunos detalles.
👗 Desde la primera vez que la leí, me encantó su manera de relatar, porque a pesar de que los temas sobre los que escribe son de alto standing, no te hacen sentir para nada fuera de lugar. Escribe y describe de forma clara y sencilla y se nota que aparte de haber vivido mucho en ese mundo también se ha documentado de manera espectacular.
👗 Sinceramente os digo que es un libro para toda clase de lector, sea cual sea su género favorito porque tienen algo, que te atrae, que aunque de principio no te llama la atención y lo descartes porque piensas que no es tu estilo, os aseguro que os sorprenderá. Ahora solo falta que Lunwerg traiga a España su último libro publicado en inglés.
👗 Le he puesto 5 estrellas porque realmente me he sentido muy conectada con la historia y las ilustraciones son increíbles. Así que os animo a que leais alguno, el que sea que más os llame la atención, al menos para conocer su pluma y poder decidir si vale la pena.

Wie sieht es aus?
Bei dem Buch handelt es sich um eine Hardcover-Ausgabe, die etwas größer als A5 ist. Der Buchschnitt ist in glänzendem Gold gehalten genauso wie die goldene Verzierung auf dem Cover. Passend zu ihrer bekanntesten Rolle ist die Grundfarbe des Buches in Tiffanys-Türkis gehalten. Die gesamte Aufmachung des Buches ist sehr hochwertig und edel. Auf dem Cover befindet sich zudem eine Illustration von Audrey Hepburn, liebevoll illustriert von der Autorin. Das Innere umfasst größtenteils Zeichnungen der Autorin nebst kleineren Texten, gelegentlich gibt es auch ganzseitige Zitate. Der Großteil des Buches ist in schwarz, weiß, türkis und gold gehalten. Was erwartet einen?
Wie alle Bücher von Megan Hess handelt es sich bei dem Buch nicht um eine umfassende textlastige Biografie, sondern um wunderschöne Fashionillustrationen, die mit Begleittexten ausgestaltet sind. Das gesamte Buch ist auf Audrey Hepburn ausgerichtet, es geht um die Frau, ihr Werk und ihre Legende. Entsprechend ist das Buch in drei Abschnitte unterteilt, wobei Abschnitt eins hauptsächlich ihre Anfänge, Abschnitt zwei ihr Leben als Star und Abschnitt drei ihr Leben nach dem Ausscheiden aus dem Rampenlicht beleuchtet. Alles wird mit zahlreichen kleinen und großen, teils ganzseitigen Illustrationen belegt. Zwischendurch werden auch teilweise Zitate eingebaut. Das Buch wirkt hierbei ein wenig wie ein Zeitstrahl.
Mein Fazit
Bekanntermaßen bin ich sehr großer Fan der Autorin und liebe ihre unglaublichen Bücher. Ich habe alle ihre übersetzten Werke im Regal stehen und auch einige der englischen Titel sind bei mir eingezogen. Entsprechend ist es jedes Jahr ein Highlight, wenn bei Prestel wieder ein neues Buch erscheint. Audrey Hepburn gilt als große Fashionikone, wenngleich ihr Hauptwirken zu einer Zeit stattfand, zu der ich noch nicht auf der Welt war. Entsprechend gespannt war ich auf das Buch und die Geschichte um diese prägende Frau. Gut gefällt mir, wie konsequent die Autorin jedes Mal ihre Farbpaletten durchzieht. Hier ist es das ikonische Tiffanys-Türkis, was einem im gesamten Buch begegnet. Die kurzen Texte sind informativ, ein wenig fehlte mir dieses Mal aber die „Tiefe“. Mir ist klar, dass bei derart kurzen Darstellungen dies nur schwer möglich ist, aber das Buch wirkt dieses Mal sehr platt und wie ein schlichter Abriss einer Biografie. Auch springt das Buch inhaltlich sehr, so geht es auf einer Seite um ihre 14 Schals, auf der nächsten um Ballett und auf der wieder nächsten dann um einen Filmdreh. Es fehlte ein wenig der rote Faden. Was ich zudem aber schade fand: Normalerweise verliebe ich mich sehr in die Illustrationen, schaue sie lange und gern auch mehrfach an und entdecke hierbei immer wieder neue Details. Aber bei diesem Buch fehlte mir irgendwie genau diese Magie. Die Zeichnungen sind natürlich toll und die Handwerkskunst bewundernswert, aber das besondere, das zauberhafte fehlte mir. Somit bleibt es für mich ein schönes, hochwertiges Bilderbuch mit der Geschichte um eine interessante Frau, aber definitiv nicht mein Lieblingswerk der Autorin. Da gibt es definitiv schönere Exemplare. Wie immer aber ein toller Hingucker, auch als Coffee Table Book oder Deko-Element. Und vor allem: Ein guter Geschenk-Tipp für Fashionfans!

Absolutely beautiful book! I first saw this series of books by Megan Hess at work and fell in love with their beauty. Megan Hess is a famous fashion illustrator who has done campaigns for many designers such as Givenchy, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Dior and many more. However this series of books is all about illustrating the lives of fashion icons.
Now I’m not exactly the most fashionable person in the world (far from it 😂). However I absolutely love reading about the lives of icons and designers I just find it fascinating to learn about their rise to success, I find it really inspiring.
In the case of Audrey Hepburn, she’s someone I’ve always been intrigued by but never really known much about, I’ve never watched her movies but now I’ve definitely got to! What an incredible women she was brought up through World War 2 with the dream of becoming a dancer. However after success on broadway it was Hollywood that came knocking on her door. From there she landed inspirational roles in Roman Holiday, Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady, among others.
What made Audrey stand out though was her sense of style, her wardrobe was chic and classic. Her simplistic style was unique and her collaborations with her lifelong friend Givenchy made her a Fashion Icon. I think it’s safe to say we all recognise the image of Audrey in Breakfast at Tiffany’s … it’s legendary!
What I also love about her story is that beyond the screen she did amazing work for UNICEF helping with the welfare children across the world. Incredible ❤️ My favourite quote of hers is “I never think of myself as an icon. I just do my thing.” - love it 🥰 Wow

Such a beautiful and illustrative book this is. This is the third book I have read on Audrey’s life, but the way Megan Hess’s illustrations jump out at me, make me think of my first time hearing about Audrey. This book is filled with love, nostalgia, and fashion. This is my second Megan Hess book, and it sure does not disappoint. I would recommend this to any fan of Audrey, fashion, and even art in general. This is a beautiful book, that is a must read, even if you know of Audrey’s impeccable story, you won’t know it just as beautifully as Megan Hess portrays it!

This is a beautifully illustrated and charming book! Megan Hess' art is so beautiful and expressive. The content about Audrey Hepburn is a general and brief overview that hits the high points of her life. There are charming nuggets throughout along with quotes from Audrey. I learned that Givenchy created a perfume for her - L'Interdit - in 1957. It was discontinued in the 1990s but reformulated and is still made by Givenchy. I immediately purchased a bottle to try out - hoping it becomes my signature scent. I love Audrey Hepburn and her style and elegance!

Simple yet feels rushed in areas about her life where fashion isn't the focus. The biggest issue is for the film Always which shows a young looking Audrey in a beautiful dress with wings the usual look for angels. In the film though Audrey was much older and wore a white turtleneck and white pants which matched her style. I would think that a book that discusses her outfits from certain films would include accurate portrayals of those outfits.

Wir auch in ihren anderen Büchern wird hier lediglich an der Oberfläche gekratzt.
Ein wirklich schönes Buch für zwischendurch und ich werde definitiv weiterhin zu Hess' Büchern greifen.

A really lovely illustrated guide to Audrey Hepburn.. The author is fabulous as the illustrations are gorgeous and the story of Audrey is concise, her childhood and her history are covered.

De tekeningen zijn prachtig! Ik vond het ook heel leuk om meer te leren over het icoon Audrey Hepburn. Alle informatie is best low key en niet heel diep, dus de informatie is niet overweldigend en is een mooie basis van kennis. Maar die tekeningen. Ze zijn zo fantastisch!

Beautifully illustrated and fascinating read about the life of Audrey Hepburn. Didn’t know anything about her so really enjoyed this quick story of her life. It was concise and well written. And the book is just so pretty!
