Samphires and greengages anyone? I appreciated the chapters on quick meals, salads and sides, and I can’t forget the desserts! And in a nod to some of unusual ingredients, the list of substitutions for each recipe is a nice touch. Beautiful book that I wouldn’t mind owning; borrowed from library. It was on a display rack that stopped me as I was walking out.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book. It offered great ideas on combating food waste and offering a substitution list was really good. However, I found the recipes to be a bit meh. I am an adventurous eater and would consider myself a good cook but I made a couple of these recipes and found them either bland tasting or very meh.
I loved the beauty of this book. However, for my family, I’m not sure how many recipes I would make out of this book. It just doesn’t fit our family right now.
Updated 2025 reviews: I still absolutely love the beauty of this book. And as my kids are getting older, I think I will try a few of these recipes. I think we are finally ready.
