Our kids LOVE Emily's show and I am grateful for this book!
The book groups together different types of experiments such as ones to do around the holidays or egg experiments.
Each experiment is set up to tell you about the experiment, materials needed, instructions and the science behind the experiment. There are sections to make a hypothesis and make notes on the experiment. People to know.
The book includes charts and a glossary in the back. This is a must for science loving kids!
Thank you NetGalley and Emily Calandrelli for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Guys, you are gonna say OMG there are 50 science experiments you have to tell your friends about this book if you have the book, it is so cool right if you don’t have it, you’re gonna want it yep, that’s how cool it is😍
This is a very colorful book of basic science experiments for kids. In all honesty, just about every one is listed a thousand places online and many of us have probably already done a lot of them with our kids, but it will be great for those who are new to science experiments and want simple ones all assembled for you.
The format is very, very colorful. I actually felt a little stressed reading it. There are bright colors, huge fonts, crowded bits of facts and hand drawn illustrations. I would have preferred photos of the experiments and less intense artwork but perhaps kids will respond well to this.
Explanations are provided for each experiment but I found them lacking. For instance, for several that involve using salt with ice to do things like stick a string to an ice cube the explanation is that salt lowers the freezing temperature of water. That’s it. Every one of my kids would have asked why salt lowers the freezing temperature of water. Cue the googling. I really prefer science experiment books that really teach a lesson well instead. That said, it’s a fun and colorful assortment of activities and kids are likely to enjoy it.
I read a temporary digital arc of this book for review.
Stay Curious and Keep Exploring is a fun guide for 50 exciting experiments geared towards children. Any activities that suggest parental supervision, have that noted at the beginning. Each experiment includes a list of items needed (including safety gear), clear instructions, and some blank lines to take notes. The book is full of illustrations rather than photographs of the projects but I think that fits the colorful style of the book.
The author, Emily Calandrelli, may be best known to children for her Netflix series - Emily’s Wonder Lab. Many of the experiments found in this book are similar to activities featured on the show.
This book would make a great addition to any home or classroom library. The experiments are fun and easy for the whole family and could easily be adapted for classroom use.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This book was very colorful and interesting. It’d definitely keep kids interested. Each page was broken up into various sections which is a nice change. Each experiment has hypothesis questions that get kids thinking. Famous women, such as Sally Ride and Madam CJ Walker, are sprinkled throughout the book. Each insert tells a little about what they did. I like how the chapter titles were broken up into colorful squares and the page numbers were big in each box as well. The notes’ pages that are dispersed throughout the book are neat so kids could scribble down their ideas or whatever they’d like. I like how the author puts in words, for example payload or taut, throughout the book and gives the meanings as well. The definitions are simple and easy for a kid to understand.
A fantastic, well-organized book of cool science experiments and demonstrations with embedded information that uncovers some of the phenomena of the world around us targeted at young girls. Colorful, interactive, and engaging, this title would make a great addition to any school or personal library. There's even seasonal spooky-themed experiments jam-packed with learning for little ones. Some sections include spotlights on female scientists and women of color. Showing young readers representation they can relate to in the field can help them feel like pursuing this field of study is something they can and should do as well. Fun and kid-friendly, this book will keep kids busy for years.
I am a huge fan of Emily Calandrelli - from her show, Emily's Wonder Lab, to her Ada Lace book series, she's been an amazing role model for my daughter, who dreams of being an engineer one day. I was so excited when I first heard about this book and even more excited to receive an ARC. The experiments are fun and easy to do and most items we already had in our home. I highly recommend this for anyone with children who are curious and love to experiment and explore.
We really enjoy Emily. I was so excited about this book and seeing this preview makes me even more excited. This particular version as a digital is hard to read but the content itself is awesome. We can't wait to buy a copy.
Such a fun book. I wasn't sure if the experiments would be accessible for small children, but there's something for everyone! We are fans of Emily's Wonder Lab so trying those experiments at home was a dream come true for the kids
