"...in giving her everything, she'd be his."
description

You First is a stunning NA Romance with a gripping plot and complex characters who are both caught in the middle of the battle of their lives. It is an unforgettable story of two people from different worlds who meet, fall in love and learn to overcome.
description
"With you, I'm safe."
Meredith Ryan is a single mom living with the father of her child and his parents. She is simply trying to survive. Stuck in the cycle of poverty, Meredith is in nursing school and desperately seeking a better life for herself and her child. When she sees a help wanted sign for a personal assistant for a man who lives a few blocks from her house, it seems like fate has finally given her a reprieve from the darkness that surrounds her.

description
"He couldn't write a bridge over this uncertainty, not one that could carry him safely into the future he wanted."
Gray Blakewood is a successful author living comfortably with his two dogs in Lafayette, Louisiana. Close to his family and well known in the community; Gray has never wanted for anything. However, Gray has a secret and is desperate to finish his latest book before it’s too late. When his brother hires him an assistant to help him, Gray is not happy about the intrusion in his life. However, when Meredith shows up on his doorstep, he is shocked by her beauty and instantly transformed by her kind-hearted spirit. Although it isn’t appropriate for Gray to have feelings for her, he simply can’t help it. Meredith, of course, is equally as taken with Gray and it doesn’t take long for them to connect emotionally and physically in the most beautiful ways. With time ticking fast, can Gray and Meredith find a way past their demons and form a life together?

description
"I'll always put you first."
Told in dual POV, You First is a perfect blend of emotions, passion, tenderness, and southern charm. The dialogue is rich with color as each scene twists and turns and seamlessly bends into the next. I was thoroughly invested in both Meredith and Gray and their individual struggles. The stakes were high for both characters, and I simply could not stop reading. Gray and Meredith are well matched, and the connection they share is authentic and strong. The supporting characters enhanced the plot significantly, and the tension and action were a perfect pairing with the romance and emotional turmoil that is brewing in this story. I will admit to feeling nervous (regarding the circumstances of Meredith and Gray) after reading a few pages in. I don’t want to give any spoilers regarding the plot, but I will only comment by saying, the love between Gray and Meredith is timeless and beautiful, and I enjoyed every single second of this read.

Overall, I highly recommend You First to all NA Contemporary Romance fans. This stand-alone read is simply stunning! This is my second book by Ms. Fournet, and I simply cannot wait for more from this author. The descriptive writing style is perhaps the most engaging characteristic of Ms. Fournet's work. When you read her work, you are instantly transported to another place and time and you feel every single moment to your core!

Meredith's life is far from ideal. She's not even twenty years old yet and she has a little boy, she works and she's going to school. She has no place to go, so she's forced to live with her ex-boyfriend and his parents. When she loses her job she's determined to find something new as soon as she can. She wants to move out and have a place of her own. When she sees on a flyer that someone's trying to find an assistant for a writer who needs a bit of extra help she calls immediately and she's being asked to come to his house for an informal interview only minutes later. She's hired on the spot and has to start straight away.

Gray has written several best sellers and he's working on a new book. He is ill and needs surgery, but he has no idea if he will still be able to work the same way he does now afterward, so he's determined to finish the book before he checks himself into the hospital. He is no longer allowed to drive and he needs help with daily chores and basic care when he's feeling bad. Meredith is a nurse in training and while Gray has no say in the matter his brother hires her straight after meeting her. Will they get along and what will happen when his symptoms are becoming worse? Meredith and Gray feel an instant connection, but Meredith's living arrangements and Gray's health situation make it far from ideal for them to fall in love with anyone. Will they find the happiness they deserve or are their circumstances too difficult?

You First is a beautiful story. I immediately loved both Meredith and Gray. They're kindhearted, sensitive, caring and loving people. Meredith is capable and resilient. Even though she lives with people who don't treat her right she never despairs, she works hard to make her life better instead. Her son is a sweetheart and I loved the way he talks. He immediately bonds with Gray's dogs and feels at home with them, which was adorable. I kept hoping they'd find a way to escape their awful living situation and that life would have something better in store for them. I flew through the pages because I couldn't wait to find out what would happen to them.

Gray's health situation is complex and Stephanie Fournet writes about it in an honest and heartfelt way. She understands very well what it's like to be so passionate about something that stopping is simply not an option, even not when the body demands it. I loved the way she describes Gray's situation. She never makes it too heavy, while she keeps it realistic at the same time and her story is filled with empathy. Fortunately she doesn't pity her main characters, which made her story incredibly strong. I sometimes had tears in my eyes, but the determination of both Gray and Meredith turned my sadness into admiration time and time again.

Stephanie Fournet has a wonderful warm writing style. It's easy to read and because of her openness it's possible to get to know her characters through and through. The connection between Gray and Meredith is special. They meet under unusual circumstances and every day they have together is surprising. Their easy conversations put a smile on my face. I constantly sympathized with them and the shocking moments in their story elevated my heart rate. I love it when I go through so many different emotions when I'm reading a novel. You First is a brilliant multilayered story and I think it's an absolute must-read.

Some might see this as an insta-love story -- I viewed it as love at first sight. I didn't stumble or pause as I am often prone to do in situations as this story started. But I was immediately drawn into this one before the first page ended. The setup was outstanding and memorable. It will definitely touch your heart. There was so much to love about the writing, the characterizations and the beautiful and meaningful words that the author (new-to-me) chose to write.

It had some similarities to other "tearjerkers" -- but this one had so much spirit, trust and plain old grit. I loved it from start to finish. Sadness was definitely woven throughout, but all the good stuff overpowered and I found myself very satisfied with the ending. I'm not going to retell the story here -- not going to give any hints. This is one of those life lessons that is best gone into blindly. Take a chance and reap the rewards. You won't be sorry -- this one ranks high on the feel good scale.

I really liked this book, but the ending really bummed me out ☹️ it was so abrupt, when I turned the page of the last chapter and saw that it was the epilogue I was shocked. And I have a lot of unanswered questions, so I was kinda sad about that

So 2017 starts with a bang! This was one amazing book! Totally loved it! Two main characters that are just meant to be together. They will both melt your heart from their kindness and ability to love unconditionally. Gray, an author, who is living with a medical issue that could mean either life or death and Meredith, the caregiver, who eventually comes to love him and adore him; both captured my heart when they realize how much they're attracted to each other. Now I don't want to reveal any spoilers, so you're just going to have to take my word for it that you will be smitten with their love story. It's a beautifully written book....

Once again, Stephanie Fournet knocked it out of the park!! I read my first Fournet book in March of this year and I said that it wouldn't be my last. Now that one, (Leave a Mark) was absolutely amazing and while I knew that any other book by this author would be just as fabulous, I had no clue that something could be better than that first one. Well, this one was better. Better than better.

Just one of the awesome strengths that Fournet has as a writer is her ability to create these amazing characters. All of them have always been these completely developed, fully fleshed out, realistic characters. It feels like you're reading about someone you know. I haven't found that very often in my reading. The great part is that these characters pull you in before you even know what is happening. It's almost as if you are a part of the story as well because you feel like you totally connect with them and what is happening around them. I really enjoyed getting to know Meredith and Gray. I wish this book was part of a series because I'd love to read more about them. I just couldn't seem to get enough.

I've loved characters before but it was nothing like the adoration I felt for Meredith. She's this super strong, independent and selfless girl who you can't help but love and root for. Even though Meredith and I have absolutely nothing in common, I felt like we were on the same page. How amazing is that?!? To feel a connection where there is nothing to support or sustain such a feeling. Awesome.

And Gray. He was the perfect balance of stubbornness and caring and protectiveness that I'm pretty sure all ladies are looking for. I couldn't get enough of Gray. If the author ever wants to write a little novella just on Gray and how he looks while he's sitting in front of his fire with the dogs at his feet as he writes, I would totally be first in line to pick that up.

The story itself was both sad and hopeful. Gosh, my emotions were all over the damn place with this book. I was happy, then sad, then happy again and then pissed, then laughing, then swoony and then pissed again and around and around and around. The story will really keep you on your toes. You think you know what is going to happen next and I'll tell you, you're completely wrong. If you're looking for something to read that will really resonate with you, this is it. I highly recommend that you give this one a read because it is absolutely amazing.

You First is the best book I've read this year. Sure, it's early. But this was fantastic. And that's really not doing the story justice. Stephanie Fournet is a powerhouse of an author - she really packs an emotional punch in her writing, while creating these worlds and characters that just feel real. The writing is just done so well.

Gray and Meredith were so lovely together. Gray, an accomplished author and a bit of a self-induced loner, and Meredith, a young single-mom attending nursing school, may have seemed like an unlikely couple. But reading about these two together seemed like a revelation. Like their world couldn't continue to rotate if they didn't know one another. Aside from their tragic backstories and circumstances, on both sides, they found peace and love in one another. Individually, I did find them to be a little too perfect, but this gripe is small potatoes, truly.

Just such a great story, and so well told. Please, read this.

Beautiful, captivating love story.

This book is a wonderful, slow burn love story. The attraction between Meredith and Gray is almost immediate, but between Gray’s health concerns and Meredith’s very unpleasant living situation, they try to keep it platonic as long as possible.

Meredith is a young mom and nursing student. She’s always putting everyone else’s needs first and Gray is the first person in a long time to make Meredith feel special and put her first. Rejected and disowned by her family as a pregnant teen, betrayed by the baby’s dad and despised by the baby daddy’s parents, Meredith feels alone in the world much of the time. She will do anything to make a better life for her young son Oscar and this is how she meets Gray.

Gray is a bestselling author who has a steadily progressing brain tumor. Determined to extend his lucid time in order to finish his next books, he refuses to regularly take his medicine and as a result has seizures, is unable to drive and has debilitating headaches. He is also terrified to have the potentially lifesaving surgery, because he doesn’t want to lose his faculties, his memory or his mind as a result of removing the tumor. He’d rather be dead than helpless and unable to think. His brother takes it upon himself to find Gray some help and finds a Godsend in Meredith.

Gray and Meredith’s love story is beautiful and heartfelt, built on a genuine connection between two good, kind people, who have had bad breaks in life. It will break your heart to see how Meredith is treated at her “home”, but Gray quickly helps restore her faith in humanity. He doesn’t understand why he is so drawn to Meredith, she is much too young for him and also now his employee, but he can’t help be attracted to her goodness, her innocence, her selflessness and her beauty.

There are so many sweet and touching moments in this book. Little moments that seem innocuous, brought me to tears because of how invested I was in these characters. Heartbreaking moments had me sobbing along with the characters and hoping for a happy resolution to devastating developments.

This love story does have a beautiful happy ending, but let me tell you, you’ll need a box of tissues before you get to the happily ever after.

Highly recommend this book and this author. This is the third book I’ve read by her and they have all been breathtaking.

I have been a fan of Stephanie Fournet’s writing from the beginning. Now, five books later, I am still stunned that she only has five books under her belt. Right from her debut novel, her writing seemed like the writing of a seasoned author. From that moment on, I knew that she was going to be one of my go-to authors. Reading one of her novels is like wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket and sipping a cup of your favorite tea – it always has a way of making you feel just right.

From the first page until the last, You First captured my interest and had me completely invested in the characters and their story. Even when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about the story and anticipating my next opportunity to lose myself in the book.

Once again, the backdrop of this book is in Lafayette, Louisiana. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never been there before, with the author’s vivid descriptions, each time I pick up one of her books it’s like revisiting a familiar spot.

Meredith is a young, ambitious, resilient, caring, strong woman. Despite her many challenges and struggles, she is persistent in her pursuit of a better life and future. She is a thoughtful and selfless character who I wanted to see succeed and find her slice of happiness.

The opportunity to work for Gray Blakewood couldn’t have come at a better time for Meredith. After losing her job at a local supermarket, she needs the money and the flexible hours that this job offers. Gray, unfortunately, isn’t as enthusiastic about having an assistant. As a popular author, he has deadlines to meet. He could use the extra help around his house to see that his goals are met, but admitting that he could use the help is something that Gray is struggling with.

I adored Meredith and Gray. If ever there was a couple to root for, to cheer on, to wish only the best for – this is the couple. What started out as a work arrangement quickly turned into a searing attraction between them, but neither one of them was in a position to jump head first into a relationship.

The story and relationship that developed between Meredith and Gray was authentic and flowed effortlessly. Their relationship certainly wasn’t without its share of complications, but it was a journey that was well worth the bumpy ride.

You First has all of the elements that make for a compelling contemporary romance. It is filled with humor, fantastic characters, tension, touching moments, and so much heart. I fell in love right alongside the characters, I shed a few tears with them, felt their pain, anxieties, and let myself get carried away into their beautiful love story.

You First is just another example of why this author is one of my favorites. If she writes it, I will read it!

First, I need to start off by saying Stephanie, you write the most swoon worthy Hero's that you can't help but fall in love with them. Every time I read one of your books I struggle to not read it in one sitting because you make every story/chapter/page just so enjoyable. With that said . . .

You First was another one of those stories that made me fall with the Hero, Heroine and their story. Meredith was so mature for being only 19 and the story gave reason for why that was necessary. Her struggles felt very real and if you have grown up in a small southern town (like I did) this story line was far to common and a reality.

Gray . . . oh Gray, a Hero like him is not that common and has become my new book boyfriend. I loved how he swept Meredith of her feet and became her knight in shining armor. His character was caring, strong and funny when most characters in his situation might have been written bitter, angry and rude. That is the typical format characters dealing with his situation are portrayed but I liked how positive he maintained throughout the story.

Also any book with dogs is great!

Stephanie, thank you again for another amazing book. Keep writing and I will keep reading!

Beautiful story

A beautiful story with strong characters. From the very beginning I was pulled into the story and continued to be enthralled right up to the end. Couldn't put it down! The relationship between Gray and Meredith was written with sensitivity and humour despite dealing with serious subjects. I would definitely recommend this book.

Stephanie has never failed to disappoint me in her books. Every single one of her novels always leaves me wanting more, and makes me never want to put it down, whether that be if I'm reading before going to sleep, before work, etc. I look forward to more novels from Stephanie (and it always helps when she and I share the same first name ;) )

"You First," is an excellent love story, set in contemporary Lafayette, LA. The fifth published romance novel in Fournet's "Saints Street" series. It tells the story of finding and building love through difficult circumstances, with an unexpected conclusion.

As in all of Fournet's novels, the reader is transported directly into every seen, through her splendidly descriptive writing.

I heartily recommend this book!

You First is an emotional contemporary romance story that will tug at the heartstrings and stir the soul.

Gray Blakewood is a successful crime writer who has a brain tumor and is in need of a lifesaving surgery.

Meredith Ryan is a single mom and nursing student who is hired by Gray's brother to serve as Gray's personal assistant.

From the day that Meredith and Gray meet, there is a strong connection and mutual attraction between them. As their working relationship develops into a slow blossoming romance, both learn to lean on each other through tough situations, and bring each other happiness that had eluded them in their lives.

Author Stephanie Fournet weaves a beautifully written tale full of pain, angst, drama, humor, and tender romantic moments that easily draws the reader into Gray and Meredith's story. The slow building development of their relationship makes this compelling story worth the read, as their connection and is put to the test by the serious personal issues in their lives. You can't help but feel for Gray as he struggles with his life threatening health issue, as well for Meredith as she deals with her own emotional baggage, but together they can help each other conquer their issues, heal, and find love and happiness. The author does a wonderful job of interweaving the serious issues that plagued Gray and Meredith with the blossoming of their sweet relationship.

You First has an intriguing cast of characters who are realistic, flawed, and easy to relate to; witty dialogue and engaging interactions; and a breathtakingly compelling and powerful storyline that will take you on a hauntingly beautiful journey where you will experience the full gamut of emotions.

If you are looking for a hopeful and heartwarming love story that follows the journey of two broken people who learn to let go of their dark pasts, and open themselves up to a healing and loving relationship, then You First is the story for you!

You First, an artfully written novel by Stephanie Fournet, explores how life altering events can rewrite your priorities and trusting love can expand your world.

Meredith Ryan, a nineteen year old with a young son, is trying to put herself through nursing school when she sees a flyer for a job as a personal assistant. She would be working for Gray Blackwood, a famous writer who is trying to finish his latest novel. Unfortunately, he doesn't want a personal assistant, but she was hired by his brother so that he would not be alone because of his recent illness. Meredith was a heroine that I could like, rally for and want to know more about. She has led a pretty rough life up to this point, and the money she'd earn as his assistant is more than she'd ever received before, and the timing of the job was perfect. When Gray see's Meredith for the first time, he is smitten, and for the first time he starts thinking of someone else first in his life. Not that he was selfish, but he was very driven by his writing. It was fun to read their exploration of their working relationship, and as they became friends, their relationship started to change.

This book surprised me with its thoughtfulness and intensity. Some serious subjects were explored in a way that was both realistic and emotional. Meredith and Gray's journey together was well written and at the end I was left wishing the book had been a little longer .

I have read four out of her five books. This by far was my favorite. This author grabs me every time with her Lafayette landmarks and descriptions. She is from the same place I am from so it makes diving into the story so much easier when you can visualize where she is writing about. Gave this book five stars for its greatness in holding my attention throughout and the plot tugging on my heart. The only disappointment I can name is wanting more from meredith's situation with her parents. Wish there was a happier ending with that. Hope Stephanie continues to write more great stories like this one.

This is the second book by this author and I loved it just as much, if not a little more, than the first one I read. This book is emotional on so many levels. Our character both have really crappy things going on in their lives. But when they find each other some good things start to happen.
Meredith is a young single mom in a very precarious living situation. Her parents have turned their backs on her and she is dependent on her baby daddy (who she doesn't even like anymore) and his parents to help her with her son while she works and goes to nursing school.
Gray is a famous writer who has a severe medical condition and needs someone to look after him, even though he doesn't think he needs it. Meredith is hired to be his assistant.
We go along with the two of them as they get to know each other and get comfortable with each other. There is an instant attraction on both their parts, but way to many things keeping each of them at a distance, until fate intervenes and they find out how much they both mean to one another. But fate is fickle and throws another big curve ball their way. One they may not recover from.

This is my first book review.... OMG THIS BOOK IS JUST WOW So amazing. I love stephanie fournets books. I think she is a wonderful author. this book had me feeling so many emotions such powerful love story in my opinion. Stephanie really knows how to put emotions into her book. I swear I can feel the love Meredith and gray share. Love how she writes that even thou Gray doesn't remember Meredith he still wants her around him and that he stills feels the same way about her. It's like even thou his mind didn't remember her his heart still did. just amazing how when Meredith mentions she has a son he doesn't even flinch. Gray shows her from the beginning that he is a better man then jamie ever was. so sweet when Gray makes her stay on the phone with him until she is safe back home. I love all Stephanie's books but this one is so far my favorite along with leave a mark. I love how she put a small scene of Wren and Lee sitting in the mustang making out. She really knows how to create her characters and bring them to life on the page. I can't wait to read more of Stephaine's books

I have no idea why I have not come across this author for so long.

Wow. I just finished this book and it's 3 a.m. I couldn't put it down. I was captivated from page one all the way up to the end. Ever read one of those books while you're reading it and you know for sure you'll re-read it again. Yeah. This is it. I can't wait to re-read it again.

Don't worry, it's HEA and not bittersweet. When it's love, you just know and no matter what happens or what life throws at you, when you meet the one...you're a goner. This book is all about sacrifices, life's cruel twists and turns, salvation, desperation, perspective, and love saves it all. I can't really throw a spoiler here, there's none to give. Read the synopsis first and just jump in. You won't regret it. You'll be hook by the first chapter.

I'm so happy I have another author to follow.
Now I'm off to read more of her books. Legacy or Leave a Mark? Hmmn...

Stephanie warmed my heart with Butterfly Ginger, awakened my curiosity with Leave a Mark, and absolutely stole my soul with You First. If I hadn't fallen in love with Meredith and Gray right from the start, she sealed it with the dogs. Just when I think I can't possibly find a new, fresh, intriguing story to help me escape my everyday life, Stephanie comes along and takes me away. I loved reading an author writing about an author. I really wish Gray was real, I think I would like what he writes. Meredith is beautifully and uniquely created. Young, but such a very old soul. Their story is magically told and will leave you wanting 20 more chapters. Thank you, Stephanie, for this special sneak peek.

This is a fabulous book! 5 star all the way! Stephanie Fournet is a master storyteller who knows how to make you feel deeply for her characters. My heart strings always get pulled when I read her books. Ms. Fournet always manages to come up with unusual situations that make you feel like it isn't just the same old romance story over again. She masterfully weaves the plot so that you aren't sure what is going to happen, but when it does, she writes it so well that it just works fabulously. What makes it super fun is her dropping her characters from her previous books in it. No need to read any of those first, but if you do, check out Fall Semester. It's wonderful! Be sure to read You First. You'll be so happy that you did!

Love love love this book. One of Stephanie Fournet's best! I am a huge fan of hers and this book has alllll the feels and more. I definitely don't want to spoil this book, but it's about a young mother stuck in a crappy situation living with her son's father's family. She loses her job and finds another as a personal assistant for a gorgeous author with a mysterious ailment. Her writing is just flawless and you just get swept away in this book, in the characters, in Grayson's illness (written with great detail and research) and you just love them. I definitely recommend this book. Even if you reread it, it just gets better and better.

Awh, all the heart strings!!! Such a beautiful novel! I greatly enjoyed it and have only one minute, tiny little complaint...Meredith’s age 😕 I don’t mind an age difference but when it starts with one character being 19, I get turned off. Just put her in her early twenties, and that would be enough for me! However, I did like that Gray respected and acknowledged how young she was by always giving her the time to grow. Honestly, I fuckin love Gray! I could write a whole book about how great he is at everything. Suffice to say, he’s my new romance boyfriend! Meredith is pretty great too but like I said... the age thing 🤷‍♀️
