Idealny dzień

Rate this book

On cię nie kocha.

Fictional characters really need to stop planning elaborate weddings. Their special day always goes off the rails 😅

For better...
▪short and to-the-point chapters move the story along at a good pace.
▪the attempts at misdirection along with the multiple possible suspects.
▪it's not filled with only unlikable characters.

For worse...
▪the characters were too one-dimensional. It made connecting with them difficult.
▪the twists were pretty obvious. I had easily figured out the 'who' by the end of the book. The 'why' was less obvious but a little too implausible for my personal tastes.

Lauren opened the card, expecting to see a congratulatory message about her upcoming wedding.

But, inside was a photograph of a doll in a torn wedding dress, her neck cut.
A doll with dark, curly hair fanned out around it, piercing blue eyes, and high cheekbones.
A doll that looked like her.

The note which accompanied it, was just four words.
“He doesn’t love you”

This is how this book begins!
Who would want to sabotage or STOP, Lauren and Adam’s wedding?

It’s a simple plot, with simple dialogue.
Lauren seems much younger than her 35 years and quite naive.

But, what the author does VERY well is to provide the reader with MULTIPLE suspects, and you WILL suspect each of them at one point or another!

Although TOO melodramatic for MY personal tastes, it is a QUICK read and will be a hit for my friends who love TWIST AFTER TWIST AFTER TWIST AFTER TWIST!

Thank You to Bookouture for my gifted copy!
It was a pleasure to provide a candid review!

"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." - Sir Walter Scott

A perfect wedding.... or a perfect nightmare.

Lauren has been waiting for her wedding day to arrive. She has been looking forward to marrying Adam. The plans are all set, friends and family are invited. What could go wrong?

Lauren receives a card, innocent enough right? Except this card says: "He doesn't love you." Who would do such a thing? But that is not all, soon other things begin to happen, more troubling than the last. Someone wants to hinder their wedding plans. Who does not want Lauren and Adam to live happily ever after? As things go from bad to worse, multiple suspects are presented. Each is plausible. This for me is where the fun begins. I love mulling over who could it be? Will you guess who is behind the attempts to wreak havoc?

This was a fun straightforward read. It gets to the point without a lot of extra baggage (i.e., long, detailed descriptions, long winded narrative, etc.). The plot is engaging and they storyline is interesting. There are quite a few twists along the way which make this a fast fun read. Nothing is dull or slow in this book. You may roll your eyes once or twice toward then end. I do not usually mind this if I am having fun with the book. This read like a tv movie for me. It was dramatic, had some danger, some suspense, some over the top moments, and was enjoyable and entertaining.

I enjoyed this fast delightful read that I did not want to put down. Highly entertaining escapism reading which did not disappoint. Full of sabotage, shocks, and twists around every corner.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

That was bonkers! I made some notes while reading it and it seems to consist of mainly questions! That’s what you do when reading this twisty little gem - question everything! Because nothing, absolutely nothing is as it seems. I had a lot of fun reading it, it was full of unreliable narrators and twists and red herrings and, and ...

After a very dramatic prologue which foreshadows danger ahead we go back a little while to get the full story. Lauren Haywood (35, an A&E doctor) is due to get married to Dr Adam Glenister, a GP. But strange and unsettling things start to happen. She gets a card with the same picture she has chosen for the invites. Inside, the stark message “he doesn’t love you” screams at her! That’s just the start. Things escalate and get darker and soon she is wondering if Adam is having an affair. The loving couple is due to get married in a church that had special significance to Lauren’s parents who died 18 years ago in a white water rafting jolly in Thailand. But that, too, comes undone.

She is also about to meet her sister, Tracey, for the first time since the funeral. She and Tracey have been estranged since then and Lauren is keen to set things right and reconcile with her sister. At the same time it is clear that Adam has not been entirely honest with her about his past among other things. It is fun watching Adam tie himself in knots trying to wriggle out of fessing up to a number of things. How will this end?

The wedding is moved to Thailand where her sister owns a luxury resort hotel. And that is when things start to get seriously twisted. Reading my notes back I can see where I jumped from one conclusion to another. All I can say is - don’t count your chickens! This was a sometimes light and frothy read but it had plenty of darker moments. The pace was fast and consistent throughout. The characters were a little cliched but served the purpose for the story they were written into. It got a little far fetched as it went on but I think that’s the nature of the genre. You are never meant to take this sort of story seriously! All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be keen to see what this author comes up with next. This book will appeal to thriller lovers and those who enjoy a psychological drama. Thanks to, Netgalley, Bookouture and Ruth Heald for providing a copy for review. My opinions are my own. I give this one 4 solid stars.

‘He doesn’t love you’ written on a note sent to Lauren is the start of a sequence of menacing events in the build up to her wedding to Adam. The story is told by them in the present day and backtracks to 2001.

The first half is really enjoyable, there’s a good pace to the plot, it’s a quick and entertaining read. The strange things that happen to Lauren are intriguing, though over the top but they do make you want to gallop on to see if your ideas are correct. There’s betrayal, plenty of suspects as a number of protagonists are being very devious and covering things up. There is some suspense but I would have liked more! I like the Thailand setting for part of the story which adds colour and warmth (!) to the proceedings.

However, the second half doesn’t work as well for me as the first as it’s easy to work out the perpetrator so there are no huge surprises. The plot twists become predictable and clear to see. The end is overdone, overly dramatic and feels like the cliche end of a bad soap opera! Adam is not likeable and I can’t understand why he’s regarded as such a ladies man and a catch as he’s such a coward! The characters are a bit one dimensional and none of them are conveyed particularly strongly. The style of writing is a bit flat and impersonal and it might have been more dramatic and tense if written in the first person.

However, overall, despite having a number of reservations I did enjoy it despite its predictability. It’s escapist reading so perfect for lockdown and on the plus side you can vicariously enjoy a trip to Thailand!

With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc for an honest review.

The Wedding is a thriller with a few characters that I was constantly questioning who was guilty.

The Wedding is a quick and entertaining read. There are only a few characters which mean there are few options of who can be after Lauren. I constantly thought I figured it out and then was thrown another curveball. There was suspense throughout the book that lead me to constantly question who was in charge of all these weird events. The Wedding includes domestic suspense, family drama, jealousy and wedding planning. The book is comprised of short chapters which make it an easy read that keeps the reader wanting more. Lauren blinding loves her fiancé and now has to question whether he is hiding something. She becomes suspicious of everything and only confides to a few people. All of the characters are interesting with their own secrets which is exactly what I look for in a thriller. The Wedding is an enjoyable thriller with twists and turns to keep the reader invested.

“He doesn’t love you,” were the words Lauren read that sent her life into turmoil. With all the preparations made for her perfect wedding, what could go wrong? Who was responsible for the cryptic message? Was her fiancé, Adam the man of her dreams or a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Buried secrets, deadly revenge, betrayal and paranoia come together in this suspenseful, entertaining thriller proving once again that things are not always as they seem.
Who can you trust when everyone looks guilty?

10 Things I liked about this book

1. The settings of London and Thailand

2. The many unexpected ‘changes of plot direction’

3. The fact it had me sneering muttering ‘well that was easy, I know who it was and why’ early on

4. The fact I didn’t

5. Then after I knew I had got point 3 wrong I then managed to work it out correctly and guessed ‘who, what, why and when’

6. The fact I hadn’t ( again )

7. The easy style writing of the book, it was written for the reader and was welcoming

8. The Characters, good and bad who were easy to visualise and ‘get to know’

9. The description of the hotel where the wedding took place, the rooms, food and atmosphere

10. That it was a comforting read, very enjoyable and at the same time fooled me ( at least twice )

10/10

The Wedding by Ruth Heald follows Lauren, who is finally marrying the man of her dreams, her childhood sweetheart, Adam. It should be one of the happiest times of her life, but a few weeks before the wedding, disturbing things start happening to Lauren. From threatening messages to being pushed down a stairs, it becomes apparent that someone is targeting her and wants to sabotage the wedding, but who and why? As the big day draws closer, Lauren realizes that she can't trust anyone - not even Adam.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot kept me engaged until the end and the writing style flowed really effortlessly. If I didn't have so much going on this week, I think I could've easily devoured this book in a day or two. Lauren is a relatable character and you can't help but empathize with her and root for her. The tension build-up was great and I enjoyed watching the mystery unravel. The culprit wasn't a surprise but overall it didn't take away my enjoyment of the story. I do have to say though, I have no idea what Lauren saw in Adam. He was a liar and a coward and I think she deserved better. I would have been just as happy if she had left him in the end.
All in all, this was an entertaining and gripping thriller. I definitely recommend it.

I would suggest you do not read this book if you’re in the middle of planning your wedding. Talk about a wedding gone wrong. Lauren and Adam have been together for 18 years and are finally going to get married. Now personally I think if you’ve been together this long you might not need a huge wedding and if they had not had a huge wedding then none of this would’ve happened. Anyways Lauren is happily planning her wedding when she receives a card with the words “he does not love you“ written on it. There is also a creepy doll that resembles Lauren with a slashed up wedding dress. This is followed up by missing phones, miscommunications, doubts, and secrets. Not only was I questioning if Lauren and Adam would ever say “I do“, I was questioning if they should.

This was an addictive fast paced story. The narrative bounced between past and present. Lauren is a very likable character and you really want her to have her big day. Adam on the other hand, I still am not quite sure about him. There was a large cast of secondary characters and I was seriously suspicious of all of them at one point or another. But I do have to say at about 75% I was pretty certain of the culprit. Even though I knew the who I wasn’t quite sure why until it was revealed. I’m still not sure how I feel about the end it was slightly over the top. A fun read with some pretty wild twists.

Lauren & Adam are both horrible characters.
I prefer my MC's to be strong, capable people, sprinkled with secrets.
I just couldn't take their naivety seriously; way too over the top.
The plot itself is pretty good, but I had trouble getting past their ignorance.

This book was great fun! It centers on Lauren, who is getting married to her long-time partner, Adam. A few weeks before the wedding, she starts getting threatening messages and it seems clear that someone is trying to stop the wedding. There are a lot of potential culprits for who is out to get Lauren, making for a twisty and fast paced read.

The pacing of this book was great. I thought I had figured out who the villain was and was I was disappointed it was so easy, but turned out I was wrong! The characters were believable and were built up the point where I understood where their actions were coming from. I did think it was a little far-fetched that Lauren and Adam had been together 18 years but she wasn't sure if she could trust him not to cheat- that seems like an awfully time to not have a point of view there!

I would definitely recommend this book to those who like psychological thrillers and mysteries- it's a quick read with a lot of surprises and characters that were 3 dimensional. I will be looking for more books by this author. thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lauren has been dreaming about this day - marrying Adam, her childhood sweetheart who she had loved for eighteen years. But when she sent the invitations out, she had no idea she was inviting someone who would destroy theie wedding.

I really enjoyed this book even though it was a bit predictable. Someone is terrorising Lauren, hoping that she won't go ahead with the wedding. The story is told from Adam and Lauren's points of view. There's plenty of suspects to pick from and red herrings to put you off the scent. This is an enjoyable quick readwhich held my attention throughout. Even though i guessed correctly who was sending the note, etc to Lauren, there were a couple of surprises at the end.

Lauren and Adam are getting married and things are starting to happen. First is a card that Lauren receives saying "Adam doesn't love you". The card has a photo of a doll that looks like Lauren wearing wedding dress all cut up and her neck cut. Who would do this?
I liked a lot about this book. It was hard to put down and I read it in 1 sitting. The story flowed well and it was easy to keep up with and to know all the characters. Adam's best friend is a woman that he has been friends with for many years. Adam's and Lauren's family had been close along time ago and tragedy struck when they were all on vacation together , while Lauren was a teenager. When things start going wrong, Lauren wonders if it is Adam's best friend, who just happened to move in with them. Then there is strange woman in Adam's life who also makes things look suspicious. Plus Lauren's sister and niece are back in her life after many years of not being in it.
So many twists and turns and just when I think I know what is going on then the author puts another twist in.

This was a great, fast paced read.
Not sure I've ever changed my mind so much reading a book, and that is the sign of a good thriller. Which clues are red herrings? Which characters are capable of sabotage?
There were plenty of events and clues to sift through and unpick, and it was extremely well executed.
I read a review before starting this that it wasn't advised to read this book while planning your wedding. I have been engaged for 18 months and we are hopefully booking our wedding after lockdown ends. This definitely increased my anxiety through the book, but made it much more thrilling for me.
Another brilliant book from Heald!

Lauren is all ready and excited to begin the preparations of her wedding to Adam. When she sees a card addressed to her in the post, she is expecting a congratulatory message. But just four words were printed in the card, forming a vicious message "He doesn’t love you"

Soon things begun to turn into a nightmare. All her excitement turns into fear and she begins to have doubts.

And finally when the truth comes out, shocking everyone, is a happily ever after possible?

A quick read! The premise was intriguing and I was also attracted to the book because of its cover.

The plot starts off very well, there is a suspense in the air as to what is happening and who is responsible for trying to scare Lauren. Every character comes across as unreliable and as a suspect with a ulterior motive, the most unlikable of all being Adam.

But as the plot progresses, even though there are constant events and twists to keep up the suspense, there was a lack of a surprise element. I found it too predictable and easy to figure out who was the culprit.

Nevertheless, it's a good book to choose for a quick and fun weekend read!

This one did not do it for me for the following reasons:

- It's very slow-paced which the majority of the time does not work for me in mysteries.

- I felt the storyline relied too much on assumptions being made by the characters to carry the mystery throughout the story.

- There were scenarios where secrets were told to the reader from one character's perspective and then that same secret was uncovered by the other character in their chapter directly after. Well, that ruined any element of surprise.

- The plotline is nothing I haven't read before but if the above points had not been so prominent within the story I would have enjoyed this a lot more.

- The main female character was spineless, whiny and went through little to no growth throughout the story.

Lauren and Adam have known each other for 18 years and now at last, they are finally getting married. They have known each other since teenagers when tragedy struck Lauren’s parents died in Thailand. Adam is perfect man for her.
Weeks for before the wedding day Lauren receives are card, which first thinks it’s a prank from one of Adam’s friends. The words written ‘Adam doesn’t love you’. At first, she dismisses it as it’s one of Adams friends, right? Bur other sinister things start to happen, and she fears that someone doesn’t want her to go through with the wedding. Even finding after losing her phone that someone has literally cancelled the wedding pretending to be her.
Thank you once again Bookouture for a copy of The Wedding by Ruth Heald. For me this was a tense thriller that kept me guessing who the culprit was throughout. It is one of them story that what you think you know turns out to be quite different in the end. The story is set in two timelines between Thailand in 2001 and present day. Are the things happening linking her to Lauren and Adam’s past? I did enjoy this but I the main characters of Lauren and Adam were not the most likable couple. 4 stars from me.

I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for Ruth Heald's addictive and compelling new thriller THE WEDDING.

I have been a fan of Ruth Heald since her debut "The Mother's Mistake" and with each new thriller she has kept us on our toes and gripped from start to finish. THE WEDDING is no different. I didn't even read the premise until long after I joined the tour, assured in the knowledge that I would enjoy the thrill ride I was sure she would take us on. And I wasn't wrong.

Thirty five year old Lauren has been dreaming about this day for years. Marrying Adam, her childhood sweetheart, with whom she'd grown up and has loved for eighteen years. Now, she sits in their flat between shifts as a busy A&E doctor, about to start their wedding invitations. The gorgeous photo of her and Adam that her best friend Zoe took for their engagement features on the invitations. It is their favourite photo - one that Adam keeps framed on his desk at the surgery. But the thought of her parents not being there for her perfect day brings a shadow over her happiness. Killed when she was 17 on a holiday in Thailand eighteen years ago, Lauren has always blamed herself for what had clearly been an accident. And when Adam returns home to find her in tears, he makes a suggestion to help put her mind at rest. A visit to their memorial and an invitation to their wedding, at which they will be in spirit and memory.

Now two months later, Lauren opens the card adorned with their favourite engagement photo, expecting to see a congratulatory message wishing them well in their upcoming wedding. But as she opens it, her smile turns into shock. Inside was a photograph of a doll with dark curly hair fanned around its face, piercing blue eyes and high cheekbones. A doll that looks like her. In a wedding dress that has been slashed and her neck cut. Just four words accompanied it...

"He doesn't love you."

And so begins a sequence of menacing events in the lead up to what is meant to be the happiest day of her life. Flowers with more than an unpleasant smell are left on her doorstep. A doll, just like the one from the card, is found floating in their bathtub filled with water tinged blood red. And then on her hen's night, Lauren is pushed down the stairs at a club and her phone disappears. Someone, it seems, wants to ruin their wedding plans. But who? Who doesn't want the loving couple to live happily ever after?

When her sister Tracey, who has been living in Thailand for the past eighteen years, returns to the UK for Lauren's hen night she brings her teenage daughter Jasmine whom she adopted after the 2004 tsunami which saw Jasmine's parents killed. Lauren and Tracey had been estranged for fifteen years since their parents' deaths and have only in the last couple of years have reconciled, putting the past behind them.

Meanwhile at the surgery, Adam is having a battle of his own. After a drunken night in the pub when Lauren was working nights, a patient has latched on to him and makes any excuse to see him. Although he has tried fobbing her off, she won't take no for an answer, claiming that that night had to mean something to him. Adam is faced with a quandary. Does he report the patient and risk his career? Or does he keep quiet and risk her going to the senior partners anyway? It soon becomes clear that Adam has not been entirely honest with Lauren about his past...among other things. Could he be the catalyst that started this whole chain of sinister events?

As things escalate and get darker, Lauren soon begins to question whether Adam is having an affair. But with who? His best friend Kiera is not interested in men...or is she? After a spectacular breakup with her partner and in tears, Adam invited her to come and stay with them in their spare room. Lauren knows he is only looking for his friend...or is he? Lauren isn't sure anymore. Everything that she thought she knew and trusted is being questioned.

As things go from bad to worse, the suspect pool deepens. Each one is plausible and believable in their own ways. And I loved deliberating over who it could be. I had three suspects in mind - each with their own motives. I had already written their backstories in my mind before Ruth presented it to us, so therefore I figured I was on the right track. Until it changed course. And so I narrowed it down again...to two...and then one. But while distracting us with a brightly colour red herring, another twist was thrown in making our heads spin. Was I right? Or was I wrong? Or was Ruth playing with us again?

THE WEDDING is a fun fast paced read that gets to the point without all the extra baggage weighing it down with long winded narratives and detailed descriptions. It's fast, it's fun and it's addictive from start to finish. If I didn't have so much going on I would have devoured this in one sitting! As it was, I had the bulk of it read in one leaving just two hours to complete it the following day. The plot is compelling, the story addictive. Nothing is dull or slow and although there may be some eye-rolling moments, THE WEDDING is entertaining with its dramatic danger, suspense and compelling twists making it an enjoyable quick read.

This is what reading is all about for me. Entertaining escapism in a fun and delightful read that is addictive and doesn't disappoint. Yes, it may be cliched but I don't care. The fun, for me, is in the ride. And if the author can give that to me and make it fun, thrilling and addictive then that's what makes it a five start read. Not to mention those short snappy chapters which keeps the pace moving at break-neck speed.

A fast delightful read that I did not want to put down, even when sleep was calling to me, THE WEDDING is predictably unpredictable that will have you turning the pages long into the night. Full of sabotage, shocks and twists, I would definitely recommend this book to fans of psychological thrillers with a fun fast pace.

What a wonderful web of tangled lies and secrets!

The story flicks between Lauren and her husband to be Adam as well as present day and in the past. It's obvious from the start how much this couple love each other but things start to go very wrong. Dangerously so!

This is a story that you never know quite who to trust. The only one I trusted completely was Lauren herself and even then there was stuff from her past that I was eager to discover. The cast of doubt is on so many of the characters and I was constantly changing my mind as to whether they were behind the disturbing set of events that seemed to be happening to Lauren and what secrets they were all hiding.

I flew through this book and it wasn't long before things start to unravel and from that moment on there was so many twists and turns. I had to keep going back and rereading bits as my head couldn't comprehend all the revelations of which some were proper jaw dropping moments. I love it when an author messes with your head that much that you have to read a part over again just to make sure you have read it right as you hadn't seen something coming.

The Wedding is a deliciously sinister tale that kept me up all night. Definitely worthy of all the stars.

The Wedding is an incredible story of Lauren and Adam who plan to get married.
But someone is trying to stop their wedding plans. But who could it be?
There are several suspects and each one has a motive.
I was surprised at the end.
And all the mystery involved those days spent in Thailand.
This book is beautiful in every way. I definitely got to a point where I couldn't put it down.
A wonderful written novel.

What a crazy, anxiety-ridden roller coaster ride this was..!!! And I loved every second of it...!!! This book was that amazing.

Lauren and Adam are finally getting married. Having gone through a lot in their eighteen years together, the two of them are excitedly looking forward to their big day. With just a few weeks left for the wedding, disturbing events begin to take place making them realise that someone is out to sabotage their wedding. As the D-day draws closer, Lauren, no longer able to trust Adam, is at a crossroads - whether to go ahead with the marriage or not. But the more important question is whether she would live long enough to even have a wedding.

I devoured this story in a single sitting - it was that unputdownable. I liked that the author started the story with the climax, throwing the reader head first into the plot, that there was no way to surface without completing the entire book. The suspense build-up was simply awesome. I think I may have developed a case of paranoia while reading, as I was intensely scrutinising every single word, action, and twitch of each character - even Adam's mum - to figure out who the stalker was. The plot was so well-written; I swear I could feel Lauren's unease and fear as my own. While I sympathised with Lauren, I didn't care much for Adam. By the end of the book, I was rooting for Lauren to cut her losses and walk away from the mess that was Adam.

The Wedding by Ruth Heald was an intense and compelling page-turner. The pace was perfect; the alternate POVs and the flashbacks kept me hooked and the end reveal was jaw-dropping. I loved the book and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Some books are like a leisurely stroll where you take your time admiring the scenery and getting to know the people you meet. This book is not that! This book is more like challenging Usain Bolt to a sprint and you are desperately trying to catch up. I was hooked right from the creepy prologue and I don’t know how Ruth Heald does it but she manages to write characters who you like but distrust in equal measure.

She’s also the queen of misdirection, a couple of times I thought I had it all sussed only to be proven wrong yet again.

With dual timelines of 2001 and the present and the setting switching between London and Thailand we meet A&E doctor Lauren preparing to marry GP Adam her childhood sweetheart. The narrative alternates between Lauren and Adam as we learn that someone is out to sabotage their happy day. So many suspects I thought my head would explode and the pace didn’t let up for a second. The short snappy chapters made this a very fast and easy read.

Poor Lauren having watched both her parents drown on a joint family holiday to Thailand eighteen years ago, has only her sister Tracey and she hasn’t seen her since their funeral as she runs a hotel back in Thailand. So when the wedding moves to Thailand I knew another tragedy would unfold there.

There is so much going on and a vast cast of characters that it felt like a gripping television drama series that you binge watch in a day and can’t wait to discuss with your friends to see who they think did it.
