How to lose your job and find true love… Fed up with impossible deadlines and meaningless busywork, Anne Wyatt goes to work one day determined to resign. But that's the day her boss announces someone's getting laid off (and with a generous severance package). Now Anne has one day to ruin her career and convince her boss that someone should be her. Anne's hysterical tactics are unwittingly undermined by Ken, the handsome graphic designer in the next cubicle, who has his own ideas for liberation from the corporate grind. In the end, Anne and Ken have to decide together what is important in life, and what they can discard without a second glance... PRAISE FOR LIBBY "The love story is charming and will be appreciated by any woman with bad taste in men who somehow inexplicably ends up with Mr. Right."
Washington Post "A whimsical look at the vagaries of dating... an intriguing side plot adds punch and pathos to the story..."
Publishers Weekly "Malin's clever debut toys with chick-lit stereotypes and offers quite a few surprises along the way."
Booklist "I was hooked!"
Freshfiction.com "Loves Me, Loves Me Not will leave the reader feeling refreshed and hopeful…a simply terrific book."

Anne works in the communication department at Burnham Group in DC. She works for Mitch Burnham - owner - and ex-boyfriend. It has been over for a couple of years (he had still been married at the time) but she had convinced herself that his wife didn't matter. She had broken it off with him, but it was still a blow to her self-esteem every time she saw him with someone else.

That wouldn't be happening much longer as she was resigning - today. She had found another job across the country in San Francisco at St. Bartholomew's Childrens Hospital. All she needed was to get Mitch alone for a minute so that she could tell him. Well, that wasn't happening this morning. He came in on his cell, closed his office door - and called a meeting as soon as he surfaced.

During the meeting, Mitch announced that he was going to have to lay someone off as profits were down. The person would be compensated with a nice severance package and he would make his announcement at the end of the day.

Annie's mind goes into overdrive and she plans to do everything possible to make sure she is the one who gets fired. Unfortunately, she is not the only one with that idea. Sheila, her counterpart in the office, begins to do some wacky things also! And Ken, her co-worker and secret admirer, spends the day trying to fix her gaffes. Ones he believes she is making because she is under so much pressure!

This book takes place all in the period of about 24 hours - which makes it unique in the books that I have been reading lately. I worked in the corporate world for 10 years before I became a stay-at-home mom. Her and her coworker do and say things that I wouldn't even have dreamed of doing when I was working (of course, I wasn't trying to get fired!) But that didn't stop me from imagining what the results would have been!

This was a light entertaining read - even though I felt it had the same buried message on different scales for each character. The message to embrace your life, embrace your future. Find out what makes you happy. It might be tough getting there, but if it is what you want, what you dream about - stop dreaming and get to it! It will be worth it.

Anne Wyatt is tried of working in the fast-paced corporate world of deadlines and a demanding boss. Lucky for Anne she has been offered an out. She has accepted a position as a Public Relations Representative for St. Bartholomew's hospital in San Francisco, California. Now all Anne has to do is find the courage to turn in her notice. Before She can do so her boss, Mitch calls a staff meeting. He informs the employees that the company isn't doing so good and that he has to cut one employee. He does tell them that the employee will not leave empty handed. The employee will be given a nice severance package. Mitch will make his decision by the end of the day.

Anne sees this as the perfect opportunity to get Mitch to fire her, so that she can leave with a nice chunk of money. Unfortunately she is not the only one thinking the same thing. This is going to be one crazy day; as everyone does everything in their powers to do the worse job ever. Because whoever gets fired will come out the winner.

Fire Me: A Tale of Scheming, Dreaming, and Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places is a quick, fun, light-hearted read. During hard times like we are currently in, this is the type of book you need to read. Anne is the star of this story. She goes way above and beyond to get fired from curling her hair during a meeting, to taking numerous breaks, giving out her boss's phone numbers including his personal line and cell phone, and to finally even taking up smoking indoors to try and set off the water sprinkers! While all of these things were funny, I was expecting to laugh my head off. I do have to say though that for having read Fire Me as my first book by Libby Malin, I would gladly read others.

rom the back of the book:

My Thoughts:
I was kinda iffy when I picked this book up...I just wasn't sure if I was in the mood for it to be quite honest. But I was pleasantly suprised at how great of a read that this ended up being. For one, it was hilarious! The antics that Anne goes to are such fun to read and I found myself shaking with laughter quite a few times. And this ended up being the perfect read for me. It was fun, light and filled with laugh out loud moments. The characters were interesting and well thought out and kept me interested within the story. The plot itself wasn't perfect but it was good enough that I couldn't put the book down. Which leads to my only qualm with the book which was that it wasn't realistic...I can't see this ever really happening. But I didn't care as I was enjoying it too much. For me this was such a fun read! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light, funny read and will be looking for more by this author.

Fire Me,

Fire Me is an absolute must-have for anyone who has worked in an office setting. If you haven’t worked in an office before you’re still going to enjoy this sure-fire hit! This novel is insightful, sincere and the characters are all too human; it’s very easy to identify with them. The story is smoothly-flowing and the plot twists are fresh and imaginatively written. The majority of the novel takes place over the course of one day. Anne’s day starts off badly and only gets worse as she tries to be the person in their department to get fired; a wonderful part of this story is how much Anne begins enjoying her...

This story was a fun and refreshing read. I look forward to reading the extra chapter that can be obtained at the author's website as well as her only other adult novel to date, Loves Me, Loves Me Not.

The book itself was not one I would read again. The concept was interesting but not overly well executed.

The best thing about this book was its setting. It was fun to see a fluff book set in dc.

I read the manuscript and designed the book cover. I really liked this book, so much that I will be re-reading the published version as well. The characters really resonated with me.

As Elena warned, it STUNK. So much so that I gave it up. So not worth the time. Terrible writing, terrible editing. Thanks, Elena, for keeping me from spending any money on it. :)

This book was hilarious. This isn't anything deep with underlying themes--it's simply a fun summer, romantic read where I found myself laughing out loud at parts.
