Rate this book
Unable to feel emotions, angels are God’s devoted soldiers, who are tasked with carrying out God’s will. One of which is to answer the question: can angels handle the gift of emotions without it interfering with their loyalty to God?

Enter Laramie.

Angel Laramie is given emotions as a trial to decide once and for all if angels are ready to feel again. However, she soon becomes sidetracked by an infatuation with a human called Maggie, prompting her to neglect her orders and allow her mission to fail. She returns to her superiors in hopes of helping the human only to learn her feelings were a test. Her failure means her banishment to Earth until she fades away forever.

Magda Mercy is a twenty-three-year-old college student with dreams of becoming a doctor. Her life changes forever when her brother returns on leave from the military with devastating family news.

In exile, Laramie is confronted by Lucifer with a confounding revelation that changes everything Laramie has ever known as an angel. Lucifer presents an offer of eventual immortality in exchange for Laramie’s ceaseless fidelity. When Laramie declines, Lucifer lashes out by tormenting the innocent Maggie as punishment for Laramie’s refusal. Laramie must now do everything in her power to save Maggie and prevent Lucifer from realizing his goals, even if it means reaching oblivion sooner.

I honestly don't have words.
This book is like nothing I've ever read. It's so new and fresh and unique and unforgettable. The characters were all so intricate and fleshed out, and the plot kept me on my toes the whole time. This has got to be one of my all-time favourite books. I cannot WAIT for the sequel!

When given emotions as a test, will Angel Laramie prove angels are ready to balance feeling and devotion to God? Angels don't have the burden of emotions but maybe they can handle it. They do a test run on unsuspecting angel Laramie to observe what happens. She soon gets distracted by an attraction to human Maggie and puts her duty to God aside. When her mission fails, she learns of the 'experiment' and is banished to Earth. In walks Lucifer with a tempting offer. The stakes are too high, and she rejects his offer. He vows revenge and punishes Laramie's beloved Maggie. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Laramie must choose between saving Maggie and being exiled forever or redeeming her angel wings and living without love for eternity.

The Bloodshed of the Betrayed is an emotional story about the gift of emotions and their torment once stripped away. A.L. Slade takes everything we know, or thought we knew, about angels and recreates it to fit her imagined universe. Laramie is an intriguing character and I connected with her. The romance is a pure joy to read and reconfirmed my belief that love is love. The addictive plot moves at a great pace with unexpected twists. The world-building along with the emotional narration makes The Bloodshed of the Betrayed an unputdownable read. This is book one in a series, and I honestly can't wait to read more. A.L. Slade is a gifted writer and I look forward to seeing what she writes next. If you're looking for a diverse fantasy with depth, pick up The Bloodshed of the Betrayed. If you're looking for a fantasy adventure you won't be able to put down, pick up The Bloodshed of the Betrayed. Highly recommend!

I initially stumbled upon this book on Amazon when I was looking for things to read. I bought the ebook version and I was blown away by this story. The only way I can describe it is similar to "One Last Stop" by Casey McQuiston and "Harry Potter" and "Percy Jackson". It's insanely hooking and I'm genuinely still reeling after reading. I wish I could read it all over again, I cannot WAIT for the sequel!!

A story that had me entranced from beginning to end. The plotline is unique and refreshing, something I've never really read before (not that I read much). Every word and chapter was oozing with creativity and detail that pulled this one-of-a-kind read together. I know it's said in every form of media involving literature but I genuinely could not put this book down if I tried. I'm excited to see what A.L.Slade brings to the table next.

An excellent fantasy character driven novel, purely a page turner that grips your attention and doesn't release until the end of the book. There are many unexpected plot twists to keep readers guessing what is next? I can easily relate to and empathize with the characters, especially angel Laramie. A L. Slade created a literary masterpiece and I can't wait to read the next book in the Mercy Chronicles. I highly recommend this book to fiction lovers of all ages and backgrounds

NO NOT THE CLIFF HANGER.

Anyway, rtc sometime tomorrow :)

March 8-

The bloodshed of betrayed by A.L Slade is a sapphic fantasy book. If that hasn’t sold you yet, just wait. It’s about an angel falling in love with a human when she isn’t supposed to have feelings. The two main characters are amazingly written and I love them a lot. Magda is a very relatable character for lots of people and struggles with mental health issues and everything else goes down hill when she receives bad news.

The entire book was just perfect and it was super short. It is beautifully written and I love the writing style.

I can’t wait for the second book!

soooo many thoughts. firstly, i want to say i adore the layout of this book. the table of contents? the glossary?? the trigger warnings?? absolutely wonderful and so helpful. not to mention the letter at the start of each chapter!! and the writing was beautiful oh my goodness. seriously just stunning. i don’t have words to express how much i loved the style. plus, it wasn’t a billion pages long which made it super easy to get through in a day which is very much appreciated coming from someone who’s a slow reader!!

i think this is a very good book for people who like these types of books. it popped up on my tik tok fyp one day and i was like hey why not let’s try it. but personally, this was not my type of book. it is very dark compared to what i’m used to reading, and i ignored the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book (which is completely on me!!). every time you thought things were looking up, it just got worse and tore your heart out a little more than the last time. the trigger warning are NOT just brief mentions of the described topics, but rather very consistent themes that are explicitly explored, and again it was on me for assuming otherwise. so my lower rating is not off of how it was written, but rather the fact it was definitely not for me.

overall, i loved the premise of the book and deeply connected with laramie. also, magda and oscar’s bond really lightened things up; their scenes were some of my favourite moments and their love for each other was so heartwarming. this book touched on some very important topics and did a really great job at it for the most part, again, it just was not for me. it is definitely a dark, emotional page turner, and if that’s your sort of thing i think you will really enjoy it!!

First things first, this book is nothing like anything I have read before, no uncanny resemblance of any other great work of fantasy, not one. This story is completely new and different in many ways. A.L. Slade has done a great work here.

Angels don't have emotions and just follow the orders given by god. There is always a doubt that if Angels will have emotions and feelings they may end up not following what God has asked them to do. Angel Laramie is the first angel who has been given emotions for a test, that whether the angels are ready to balance between emotions and duty. But, when on the assignment Laramie ends up liking Maggie, a human and the mission fails. She is then banished to earth now to live like a human. And Maggie gets into trouble for the deeds of Laramie.  Now Laramie has to save him, will she be able to do it?

Magda Mercy is a student in an university, when her brother, a military man returns on a leave for a family emergency. The best thing about the book is how well the two story merges and then moves forward.

The characters are really strong and full of emotions. The story becomes more awesome  on the entry of Lucifer. The book is a sure page turner and a emotional roller coaster.

I will recommend this book to everyone, because I don't have any reasons why a person will not love this. I'm eagerly waiting for the upcoming books in the series.

I don't have words. This book made me laugh and cry and love and hate. I've never read anything like this and loved it so much. I cannot recommend this book enough to people. I feel represented, not only by Maggie but by Laramie and even Ghalen and Khalil too. Cannot WAIT for the rest of the series!!!!

It was such a good book, written well and easy to read. There were a lot of triggering topics though, but they are all mentioned at the beginning of the book. I couldn't put it down, such a pageturner. Character were well written, lines were great. I cried multiple times, while I normally cry once at max. over a book.
In conclusion, reccomend it (unless one of the topics trigger you, of course)

I'm sorry, I really tried to like this book, because the idea of it is really good in my opinion and i really like the form of the book, i mean it has a pretty cover, the font and font size are really nice too, there is a trigger warning in the begging, but all those things don't make a good story, they only make a pretty book - not to say that the story is bad, i just didn't like it.

Laramie basically spends the entire book stalking Maggie - a person that has enough going on in her life btw - and doesn't even talk to her once, that's not romantic even if she 'saves' her a few times, especially considering that if Laramie would have just stayed away those things wouldn't have happened to Maggie. This is again not romantic, this is a psycho thriller.

Maggie on the other hand has about one personality trait and that is having bad stuff happen to her and then feeling depressed.

For me the story only got better after both main characters died and i have no idea what to think about that.

I'm not saying that this is the worst book ever or something like that, it simply wasn't for me, if you like it good for you.

the writing was sooo good! however some things in the plot didn't sit right with me, some people are introduced but we never really get the full story, though it would've been so interesting. I get that Lucifer is the worst but some things in the plot just seemed too much and not specifically necessary, multiple times I saw things coming but was just "really you're gonna do that?". I still did enjoy reading the book but by the end I was kind of lost

/!\ do read the trigger warnings before reading the book
