so far good story

It’s well written, I like the story, and it’s definitely kept my attention. The one issue I have so far (just started book 2), is that this does not seem to be 3 separate books. Rather it’s one book split into 3 parts. I don’t like this. While the first book was good it was not a complete story on its own. There was not resolution, no ending, it wasn’t quite a cliffhanger however it was definitely not an ending. I’m not sure why the author split the story this way as it’s also very short. I think if all of the parts had been published together it would have made one reasonably sized novel. And been more enjoyable to read. Thankfully I didn’t start the series until it was completed!

"Waterdrop: Retelling Prince Lindworm" by Lucy Winton is an enchanting start to a trilogy that beautifully reimagines the lesser-known fairy tale of Prince Lindworm. Set in the fantasy world of Coravil, the story follows Isla, a young girl who has lived her entire life at Donellan Lodge with her foster family. Her world expands when she receives an invitation to a festival at the province's capital, marking a year since the kingdom narrowly avoided war.

On the first night of the festival, Isla encounters and bonds with a water serpent—a unique and unprecedented event. As she struggles to keep this secret, it becomes clear that her secluded upbringing and the mysteries of her true identity are about to unravel.

Lucy Winton excels at crafting a compelling narrative with fast-paced plot development and significant stakes. Despite its brevity, the novella is rich with detailed descriptions and well-developed characters. Isla, along with her foster sisters Finola and Maeve, are immediately relatable and endearing, capturing readers' hearts from the start.

What truly stands out in Winton's writing is her ability to weave mythology and intrigue into the fabric of the story. The fantasy setting is vividly brought to life, and the characters' emotions and experiences are portrayed with depth and authenticity.

Be warned, however, that "Waterdrop" does not provide a complete conclusion, as it is the first part of a trilogy. By the end of this book, you'll be itching to find out what happens next. Winton's descriptive prose and smooth narrative flow make this a compelling read that is hard to put down. I can't wait to see where the story leads in the next book, "River Flow."

I had never heard of the Prince Lindworm fairy tale until I read this book, but Winton's retelling inspired me to explore the original tale. Her unique twist on the story, combined with her skillful writing, makes "Waterdrop" a must-read for fans of fairy tales and fantasy.

Overall, "Waterdrop" is a delightful and intriguing novella that sets the stage for a captivating trilogy. Winton's talent for character development and world-building promises an exciting journey ahead.

I received a free copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

well, it certainly did the job of reeling me in to want to find out what happens next! it's a good buildup to the "Lindworm" of the story who i imagine is coming soon. I can tell it is in a draft stage but is more second or third draft. it does feel a bit like the narration is telling us, particularly at the beginning rather than letting it flow and I had trouble figuring out which character was which at times. otherwise, it's a good setup with a fast-moving plot and suitable stakes within the story so far with no spelling mistakes as far as the eye can see. I look forward to the next installment.

Although a short novella the story is layered with plenty of description and character building. Set in a fantasy world which adds lots of mythology and intrigue, this story sets up a series well.
Main character Isla discovers a water serpent and when she bonds with it and takes it home with her its clear that she is something other than human.
It's easy to follow and the characters and settings have been introduced well.

If you are looking for a short story that will continue in book 2 (which is scheduled for later in the year) then this is released in a few days time.

I had never heard of the Prince Lindworm fairy tale until this book. (After I read the book I immediately read the fairy tale).

The author Lucy Winton did a great job.

The characters were so easy to fall in love with. Isla, Finola and Maeve captured my heart right away.

Once I started reading I couldn't stop. I couldn't beait to get to the end to see where the story would lead.

The author did a great job portraying the characters, their emotions and the experiences they went through.

I can't wait to read River flow to see what happens next.

I first started writing 'Waterdrop' nine years ago under a different title, but the plot wasn't going anywhere so I put the story aside. Then last year I came across the fairytale 'Prince Lindworm' and thought it would be interesting to write a retelling of it - and everything just seemed to fall into place.

I've really enjoyed writing the first part of Isla's story, and I hope you enjoy reading it.

Great start of a story

I really enjoy Winton's writing. It's descriptive and flows well. I like the characters and the overall story.

My only critique is that it didn't feel like a complete story. But, I'm sure the next few books will help it come together.
