Rate this book
A terrible heat wave has fallen over Firefly Junction and tempers are flaring. With triple digit temperatures and humidity thick enough you can cut it with a knife, a chili cook-off is the last place journalist Sunni Taylor wants to be but Prudence Mortimer, the owner of the Junction Times wants her to cover the event. When one of the competitors is stabbed to death in the parking lot the cook-off really heats up. Sunni is no longer covering recipes and pepper eating contests. This is another great book in the Firefly Junction series by London Lovett. I love the characters(even Edward). This book was set in the middle of a heat wave at a chili cookoff and tempers were flaring. I cant wait for the next book.

Things are a little steamy in Firefly Junction and I don't mean in a sexy way. A nasty heat wave is causing people to do things they wouldn't normally do, which (naturally) means Jax is up to his eyebrows in cases. Throw in a chili cook-off that Sunni's covering for the paper and you can imagine how hot things are getting.

Plus, there's the whole dead body thing. Since Sunni has the unenviable gift of stumbling over said dead bodies (IT'S A GIFT!), she's also eyebrow-deep in a case. (Which, honestly, helps Jax out since he's dealing with all the other heat-related cases.)

Anywho. Some sisterly bonding, a whole lot of chili, a new face at the paper, Sunni's resident ghost doing what he does, and a tiny case of murder. What can I say except it's always a fun time in Firefly Junction!

Another well executed book. Each one gets better and better. I'm not a paranormal fan, but believe me, the author has done a phenomenal job combining a cozy mystery with the paranormal world. I can't wait to read the next book.

I loved this latest edition to the Firefly Junction series. Each book is packed with angst, mystery, murder and a cast of wonderful characters I love to read about! I also love when new characters are introduced in other books and are brought back in later volumes.

Detective "Jax, Jackson Brady has his hands filled with daily attempts of fighting, attempted murder, and all sorts of trouble that he thinks is because of the heatwave that has come to Firefly Junction, that has lasted for days.

As for Sunny, she has been given the assignment of covering the Annual Chili Cookoff event. Unfortunately for her, nothing is worse than attending the cookoff in the triple digit heat, with little to no shade available in the park, the heat coming from all the pots of chili, added with all the spices is unbearable. Not to mention that her boss Prudence has hired her niece Lauren to work at the paper, and she expects Sunni to train her! So off to the park they go.

Sunni's sister Emily is one of the contestants and she is entering her vegetarian chili, which is quite good, and she wins third prize for the first day with her chili.

There is a lot of entrants that have been entering for years, and some are quite competitive to the point that they treat each other quite badly. As a matter of fact, there is a murder and a few people who would benefit by the murder that takes place, in broad daylight!

I did not know until the end of the book who actually committed the murder and was surprised. The book had a lot of twists and turns, and I enjoyed how it kept me in the dark. I gave this mystery 5 stars and can't wait for the next one, they are that good!

I recommend reading this series from the beginning book as it is really nice to read about all of the characters in Firefly Junction, even Edward the Cider Inn ghost! Here is the list of the books from the beginning,

1. Death in the Park
2. Killer Bridal Party
3. Murder at the Inn
4. A Humbug Holiday
5. Calamity at the Carnival
6. Double Trouble
7. Havoc at Wildwood Manor
8. Fatal Feud
9. Trick or Trouble
10. A Crafty Killing
11. Death at the Museum
12. Murder at the Pumpkin Patch
13. Founders' Day Fiasco
14. Heat Wave Homicide

We are back in Firefly Junction where there is a big heatwave. To make matters worse, Sunni has been given an assignment to cover the Annual Chili Cook Off. When she reports to the office she also discovers that her boss, Prudence, has hired a new reporter, Lauren, who is straight out of high school. Sunni also discovers that she is the niece of her boss. Prudence assigns Sunni to be Lauren's mentor.

It seems that Dex, the ghost whisperer is back in town and he has a message for Edward from a ghost at the local inn. Edward is oddly affected by the message goes silent for a while leaving Sunni to try and figure out what is going on with the moody ghost.

As Sunni and Lauren go out to the cook off they set out to interview the various contestants including Sunni's sister, Emily. Emily has entered a vegetarian chili for judging. Sunni decides to give Lauren an assignment judging the hot pepper contest. The winner of the chili cook off for the past few years has been a braggart named Bart. He is not a very nice man and so it really isn't a surprise when he is found murdered in the parking lot. Now Sunni, aka Bluebird is on the case along with her honey, Detective Jackson. With the oppressive heat, it is no wonder that the tempers are flying. However, can Sunni find out who is behind the murder without becoming a victim herself? Well, this is why you will have to read this installment.

I love the characters and the sibling relationships in this series. I just wish there was a little more details on the relationship front with Sunni and Detective Jackson. If feels as though there relationship is in a holding pattern. Oh well, maybe the next installment will see some movement on that front.

The charactars just get more and more real. I really enjoy their interaction with each other. Edward and Jax are so funny when they are slamming each other. Poor Sunni has to keep playing referee between them. Now theres a new element added to the relationships and I'm really interested to see how it developes. Waiting impatiently for book 15 to come out so I can get on with the story. This is the kind of books that you binge read because you want to see what happens next, hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

Summer Time Craziness

A chili cook-off in summer is just asking for trouble. And trouble comes with a capital T. A heat wave brings out grouchiness and bad tempers fly. One very unlikable cook meets his end. And there are several suspects because nobody liked the dead dude.
Jackson is busy on so many crazy cases that Sunni gathers the clues and asks the questions. And figures out who dunnit right before the murderer attacks her.
What a great read!

I do love these stories

In have only recently come across the Fire Fly mysteries and am obsessed. The author has done a spectacular job with her fully rounded characters we care about but the relationship between Edward and Sunni are just too great for words to fully express. I love the banter between them. Please continue writing them and I will read them. Thank you for these wonderful stories!

Another good story

Short story but interesting and fun to read. I like the new young character, Lauren. Dave Crockett is gone, good riddance, and very little Prudence in this story. I agree with the people of Firefly Junction— move the contest to fall! We continue to learn more about Edward’s past. And Sunni and Jax’s relationship grows stronger. Hope to read more soon.

This is one of my favorite series! The characters are so well thought out and developed. I love the interaction, the mysteries and the bond between the 3 sisters. I always hate for one to end, because then I have to wait for the next one to release!!!

I suppose if you have gotten this far into the Firefly Junction series, you have fallen in love with at least two characters.
London Lovett is a superb writer; great imagination.
I hope though, she will write Raine out.

CHEERIO!

I definitely didn't see that coming! She's done it again. As I read, I could picture the scenery, feel the heat and taste the spices. Then, BAM!

I really enjoyed this new addition. Sunny’s new mentor and how she feels out dated is very familiar as a person part of the hipster generation. I also liked that she wasn't a rival, purdance provides enough of that.
