The only thing more dangerous than a deadly vampire is an angry witch.
Killian and I are connected, but the cursed magical box he came from is getting in the way of us being together. A cross-country trip around the United States is the only way to locate the people who might have an idea on how to help us.
But we’re being followed. Warlocks and demons are after us, particularly me, and each day that passes is another night we might not survive. With nowhere left to turn, we end up stumbling into the one group Killian wants nothing to do with… my mother’s coven.
Killian insists these witches can’t be trusted, but at this point, they’re our only chance. The coven is welcoming me with open arms. For the first time, I feel like I’m home… but the closer I get to the coven, the farther it pushes Killian away.
Someone is lying to me. There’s deception within the coven that longs to be brought to light.
I only hope I discover the truth before I lose Killian forever.
The Darkest Witch is a sensual enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance, and the second book in Juliana Haygert’s Rite World: Vampire Wars series. This stunning addition to the Rite World universe will entice and intoxicate readers in a dark love story of vampires and magic.
While Juliana Haygert dreams of being Wonder Woman, Buffy, or a blood elf shadow priest, she settles for the less exciting—but equally gratifying—life of a wife, mother, and author. She resides in North Carolina and spends her days writing about kick-ass heroines and the heroes who drive them crazy.

This book did not go where I thought it was going to go. Instead of going to the place with actual answers, . The shenanigans that then ensued because of said mission were boring and stupid.
I disliked that the heroine basically devolved into a whiny, dense, and naive version of herself THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BOOK. To say I was on the verge of DNFing this multiple times is putting it lightly. I understand that she desperately wants somewhere to belong and to know of her past and the way Killian was treating her was crappy on his part too BUT come on! Don't go believing strangers without any proof. Ask for pictures and corroborating evidence sheesh.
Killian was being a jack*ss the entire novel. The hot and cold thing he has going on is boring and unimaginative. I was over it in the first book but it just gets worse with this novel. In case you haven't noticed I'm not a big fan of him. He overstayed his welcome if you ask me.
The big boxes mystery is put on the back burner for a good chunk of this story because of the mess/brainwashing the heroine got herself into. I really would like to see how things resolve themselves but these books are making it harder and harder for me to actually stick with it.
I really enjoyed this book. There was a lot of action and wonderful characters. One of my favorite things about the book was the world building. The book ended and a huge cliffhanger but it really answered a lot of questions from book one. Another favorite part of the book, was the Romans I really enjoyed how the characters fell in love and there was a lot of steamy scenes. Another favorite part was just the hero and she was super fun and was lovely. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Highly recommend.
Book two and it’s every bit as awesome as book one! From the start I found myself once again drawn into this incredible world with it’s exciting and entertaining storyline full of action and adventure and I just love Killian and Lavinia. Witches, vampires, warlocks and demons, magic, this dark paranormal romance is a great read and very addictive and I am loving how their story is developing!
0%-39%- The world building for this book is cringy, awkward and honestly boring. New characters come into play but the flow of the introduction to them was wobbly and made me wonder what is the point with them if they don't stick around (thankfully they did). Killian is moody, not even the sexy kind, just straight up childish that I was tired of him and just wanted him out of the picture. I don't see the chemistry between Killian and Lavinia, they honestly can't even be friends. At a point I wanted her to move the f on. They find another box and them trying to get it drives the whole plot that I don’t know how they'll get the rest of the boxes if it took so long to get the second one. I get it but it makes me wonder how long this series is going to be. I can't see it wrapping up with just 3 or 4 books.
39%-100%- Heck yes, this is what I'm talking about! Finally getting interesting and to some juicy drama, even bloody! With Killian out of the picture and Lavinia "learning" stuff about herself I'm actually starting to enjoy this book! I loved we were finally just concentrating on one plot line because the first book should have been all about the box but it wasn't. Well, in this one it finally is and I loved it! It flowed well and the twist and turns are hitting just right that I literally dropped my kindle to clap, because finally!
Overall, it was a bumpy road but we finally got there! The ending surprise felt rushed but I'm excited for the next book! Also, Killian finally opened up (I was so done with whenever he tried to they got interrupted. I usually like that but in this book I just got annoyed and rolled my eyes) but in the end I think this couple might have finally won me over. We'll see if that lasts with the next book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
So nice to read book 2 only a month & 1/2 after book 1!
I try to avoid plot summaries & spoilers in most of my reviews, so here goes:
I gave book 1 (the Darkest Vampire) 5 stars, & I see no reason to do otherwise here.
This picks up where Darkest Vampire left off, & follows Lavinia the Witch & Killian the Vampire on their adventures & romance. Once again, Ms. Haygert is a fast read for me (a good thing, that means I'm enjoying it), & once again we've got a cliffhanger ending.
This one features a new adventure that is a continuation of book 1, plus 3 new friends & lots of new enemies. Some of the questions from book 1 are resolved, & the cliffhanger nicely sets up book 3. We come to understand both Killian & Lavinia to a much greater extent (nice character development), & the adventures held my attention. I believe I've said this before in reviewing Ms Haygert's writing, but in today's insane real world, this sort of somewhat light escape is much appreciated. Finished it in 2 long & 1 very short readings.
The "bad guys" are a little more evil than usual in a JH book (but still not overwhelming), & I would rate this for around 16 years old minimum readers for the moderate sexual content; though I suspect this falls into the young adult category.
JH has a knack for drawing this reader in to the characters & the story in an easy while still intelligent way
Recommended; & JH's books are always very fairly priced on Kindle.
The story of Lavinia and Killian continues where it stopped in the Darkest Vampire and takes some sharp turns on the go. The two of them get acquainted with another unusual couple that is on a quest to retrieve a magical item, though different to Lavinia, and since it seems the destination for retrieving both items is the same, Lavinia and Killian join forces with Evelyn and her boyfriend. Infiltrating a coven of dark witches isn't an easy task though, and occasionally, Lavinia has problems to distinguish between illusions and reality, which definitely complicates things. Nothing can be complicated more than Killian though.. This was again a fast read with many twists which I devoured in a very short time yet it was still a pleasant reading experience. The hot and cold development in the relationship between Lavinia and Killian is sometimes infuriating and sometimes hilarious, and there were also moments when I wanted to facepalm myself seeing Lavinia's thoughts. The two additional characters that step into spotlight are a nice and interesting addition, and I also enjoyed the dark side of the story considering what was happening with the coven. I also liked the ending and the surprises that came with it, and look forward to read more.
Well book 2 of the rite world vampires will definitely not dispoint it had me gripped what a page turner from the get go, I love how lavinia and killians characters are developing in to this book as well as trying to manage there growing feelings for each other. There are plenty of characters emerging from other books of juliana which I love really enjoyed this read can't wait for next installment
The Darkest Witch is the second book in Rite World: Vampire Wars and it is completely amazing. The action, the excitement, and the battle kept me on the edge of anxiety to know what was happening, to finish the book in hours. Lavinia and Killian as they try to reach DuMoir Castle, also try to understand the new dynamic between them, which causes a bit of friction and they show their real feelings. If you are a new reader to this world, Evelyn and Asher are a fantastic addition to the story, but if you are a fan of this world like me, jump for joy as you reread Evelyn and Asher. I loved how Lavinia and Evelyn's relationship developed and how they supported each other through the most difficult moments in history. They know more about the Darkmist Coven and the Dark Order gives a great sense to the story and gives you the feeling that something greater is coming. The revelations around who Lavinia is are really surprising. The reason Killian had stayed away from Lavinia and when she finally opens up is a relief to everyone. Seeing Thea, Drake, the princes, and Aurora is always nice. And that ending, all you do is want to read the latest book right away. Amazing Book.
Full of action, with an amazing, dark and twisted plot, this book will captivate you from start to finish and left you dying for the next installment after that cliffhanger!!! 😳😫 Lavinia and Killian's story is fantastic, I enjoyed this book so much and am so excited and eager to read the rest of this series!!! 😍🖤🔥 #killianismine
Lavinia and Killian are heading to what they hope will be safety. On their way they meet a few friends and plenty of enemies. Fighting the ever growing attraction to Killian while trying to locate another box...Lavinia had her work cut out for her. I love how this series incorporated struggles that are very relatable. I can't wait to find out what's next for Lavinia and Killian.

This is the second book in this addictive series and I could not get enough of it and it picks up right where the previous book left off. Love this story.
Lavinia is such a badass. No matter what gets thrown at her, she will triumph. Killian is a great character too. Can’t wait to read what happens next. Recommend to all
Oh Killian and Lavinia! Book 2 did not disappoint, it was a page turner from start to finish! I love reading how their story is developing and how all the other characters from past books are intertwined. I can not wait for the next book!
I freaking loved this story! The twists & turns throughout it have made my day/night. I'm so very happy that Lavinia & Killian finally get their H.E.A.!! Then everything that happens between them the night before her kidnapping really brought this story to my knees..... I won't go into any details because..... it will upset your other readers.
All I can say for the final time for this series is....
HURRY UP I'M DYING HERE!!! I WANT BOOK THREE!!!
Much love always to you & your brilliant mind xxx

The Darkest Witch is the second book in Juliana Haygert’s Rite World: Vampire Wars series. The storyline continues with Lavinia and Killian making their way to DuMoir Castle. Killian is desperate to be free of the box that imprisoned him, and Lavinia wants to break her connection to the box. But along their journey, they are being hunted by the warlocks who imprisoned Killian. They aren’t the only obstacle soon to be in their path though. After a brief rest, Lavinia feels something tugging at her, and it's not long before they discover another box. It’s being held by some witches who don’t know what they have...yet, but it won’t be long before they do and add it to their deadly arsenal. The Darkest Witch is an okay addition to the series. I say this because, for me, the romance angst angle is a bit overdone for me. It’s easy for me to see that Killian is attracted to Lavinia and that there is something going on there, but she spends so much of the book angsting over him. Yes, he’s dealing an internal battle that has him doing a lot of back and forth, but it just seems like she’s being excessively dense. The constant back and forth just goes on too long for me. The author does put in quite a few twists in this book though. One that leads to a betrayal is a bit obvious if you have read enough books with loopholes and devious characters. Though I will say that there are a couple of times that the author does surprise me with the direction that things go. I’m curious as to the new characters that we meet in this book and what they are going to contribute to future books in this series. I’m choosing to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I like the twists, but there are some elements that don’t really help bring the whole storyline together. One thing that I’d like to know is how the warlocks are tracking Lavinia because it seems that that is whom they are focusing their energy towards. This book ends on a twist of a cliffhanger, so I’m curious to find out what happens next and what Lavinia is going to do.
Lavinia and Killian are now on the road, headed for Killian’s coven, who may be able to help both with the mysterious, magical box, as well as Lavinia’s blood curse. But this road trip is anything but uneventful. The warlocks are still hunting them, and there is more than one close call. There are new alliances, old betrayals, revelations, and admissions. The tension between Killian and Lavinia is potent, and their progression works perfectly with the pace of the story. And as Lavinia searches for more truths and information about her mother, she finds herself caught in the middle of dark and light magic, with no easy way to decide. There is plenty of action, lots of sexy tension, and some great world building with both the magic system, and the characters (new and old). The ending will have you screaming for more!
Lavinia and Killian are on the run. They end up at Lavinia's mother's coven. Killian is wary, but Lavinia doesn't see another choice. Lavinia is tricked and Killian, a shifter named Shane, and a couple of other friends are imprisoned in their dungeons. To escape, Lavinia has to trick them. They find more boxes and release a Fae. I enjoy the character growth of Lavinia in this book, particularly in the second half. She went from silly young vampire-crazy girl, to mature young woman.
I could not put this book down. Laconia and Jillian are such strong character I couldn't wait to see how long it would take them to admit their feelings. I loved the added characters and want more of them as well.
Fabulous sequel...We got a cross country tour and met some new friends and old enemies along the way and figured out some interpersonal stuff and some secrets of the past come to life...and a cliffhanger ending...
This book is recommended for readers 18+ due to adult content.
This is a good continuation of the series. The emotional drama really ramps up. There's so much that Lavinia goes through in this one and done genuine moments of rage toward Killian. Great cliffhanger in the end, though.
Wow book two did not disappoint. Loads of action, suspense and adventure. Plots within plots with lots of intrigue. Will definitely read the next book!
