" Giese's prose is chatty and wry, with the cadence of a practiced storyteller. ... An...often entertaining mix of humor, memoir, and self-help." — Kirkus Reviews
"Giese’s brash and breezy second book ties amusing anecdotes from her life with lessons she’s learned en route to becoming a confident, empowered individual. Written with a stand-up’s snap and love of a punchline..." – booklife by publisher's weekly
“This hysterical female is teaching us all how to laugh again, be brave again, and live again. Start reading and get ready to be inspired, laugh your face off, and accomplish your dreams.” — Jenni Pulos, star of Bravo’s Flipping Out
Author Kristin Giese proves she can deliver a laugh as effortlessly as she can a lesson in Another Hysterical Female, the second book by Giese. In the pages, Kristin mines what is funniest from her own life to find what might be true for us all. Somewhat of a modern-day Mary Poppins — minus the fact that Mary never pulled a vibrator out of her carpetbag. Kristin’s brand of humor is the exact spoonful of sugar we need to help our heartache go down.
Another Hysterical Female reads like an exploration in what it is to be a woman today. Kristin’s stories are real, vulnerable, disarmingly honest, and FUNNY. Her storytelling style is easy and conversational, with the feel of being seated next to her at a dinner party. Giese goes from your chatty and unexpectedly hilarious table-mate to the best friend you just hadn't met until now.
In Another Hysterical Female , she regales us with stories from her childhood, life in entertainment as a talent manager, publicist, and producer, as well as the things she’s learned running her own company — all to shed light on how what has hurt us can also point us toward what could radically heal us. “If trauma had a tagline, it would If you don’t laugh, I’ll make you cry. It’s like a bully on the playground, holding us back from our happiness. In reality, we don’t have to get over what has hurt us to move forward in life, but we do have to stop believing that we are what has hurt us if we truly want to build our happiness. I’m spilling the beans on what hurt me in the hopes of doing just that in my own life.”
WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE "Kristin is the best friend you never knew you needed. Her advice is savvy, compassionate, and all told with a wry wit that will have you rolling. First I need to say how much I loved the cover of this book, the bright blue really made the red lips stand out, it captured my eye right away. If I saw this cover in a book shop I would be inclined to go over to see what it was about. It would also stand out on a website or in email of recommendations.
I liked how the book read in parts as fiction but was in fact non fiction. The stories were used in a clever way develop the more serious points the author was making about the female mindset and how we can over come our conditioning to move on and not be held back. The stories were laugh out funny I particularly enjoyed the ones which included the authors parents, the closing chapter with the A/C unit made me proper giggle. I found I could relate to most of what the author was saying though at times some of humour wasn’t to my taste, but then am British so perhaps some of US cultural references within that humour went over me. While I really liked the stories I found some of the analysis a bit too pop psychology, that in turn put me off reading parts and I found myself skimming over parts of this to get to the next laugh out loud story.
I’d say this book is a self help type book with a twist, I don’t often read self books but they way this presented made it a enjoyable read. As am not a big self help book person I am not sure if the help part of this book is standard but I did think yeah if only it was easy.
I think this book would make a great tv or stage adapted in the manner of Fleabag or Mood
Overall this book made me laugh, it was relatable and relevant however the self help and pop psychology wasn’t for me. If you like that type of thing this book would be a great edition to your reading list it will ring true for women world over.
I give it 3.5 stars with 0.5 of that being a bonus for the cool cover.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy in exchange for a fair and honest review
I found myself wanting to share this book as I was reading it with close friends, but also not wanting to share so that they could enjoy it for themselves firsthand. Kristin has really great ability to weave life experience with humor that makes the reader laugh out loud and look around to see if anyone notices their laughing. Each chapter reveals a memory that often involves family and the unique dynamic that it plays on how we develop as people and the life lesson as a result. Her ability to story tell doesn’t feel like reading a book at all. It is reminiscent of meeting a old friend and laughing about childhood memories together. I immediately looked up other books written by this author because I really enjoyed this book. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to enjoy this one!
Part memoir and part self-care, Kristin Giese’s Another Hysterical Female is a thoughtful composition of vignettes; life events mixed with bits of wisdom.
Through professional situations, family struggles, personal relationships... the author shares moving and relatable stories, making us realize the beauty of acceptance and true growth.
“Fate has a way of finding the lost parts of us.”
Thank you to the author, for gifting me your book.
“And Never call your vagina anything but a vagina. Everyone’s already trying to lessen what it is to be a woman. Don’t make it easier to undermine us all by calling one of the most significant parts of yourself something horrific like a wooby. Its tacky.”
Kristin Giese is such a wonderful, gifted storyteller - I feel like I could read her stories forever. Every time one ended I wanted more, but then her life lessons which followed each story were just as illuminating and entertaining.
The author notes at the end that the intent of the book is connection and she’s certainly successful in that - after finishing this book it felt like her and I had just sat down for a cup of coffee and a really good chat - the kind that surprises you in its rawness, simplicity, warmth, and depth. I think my favorite part is her portrayal of her relationship with her mom, which seems filled with both sass and attitude, as well as laughter, wisdom and so much love.
This book is about a woman who is unapologetically and hilariously in her feelings about everything and for that I loved it. Take a weekend and read it, you won’t regret it!
I really enjoyed this book, it was clever and witty with good writing that at times was hard to remember that it was non fiction. I didn't know what to expect from this book but I really liked it.
funny, insightful and punchy, kristin giese's memoir 'another hysterical female' is exactly what i needed to read right now. coming out of a (painfully) long semester at university, this book provided me with not only a short and sweet narrative style, but a compactly hilarious one too. giese's writing kept me hooked, and i found myself wanting to know even more than her short stories would let on. as autobiographical reflections of her life, the short stories feel not only funny, but innately human. giese manages to strike the perfect balance between funny, memorable and moving, all when you'd least expect it.
"but what if we stopped believing our brokenness needs to be protected and instead started believing it needs to be trusted?"

Kristin is truly a masterful storyteller! After reading her first book Unverified, I was thrilled to see her jump in the non-fiction space. Trust me this latest book doesn’t disappoint. AHF serves up heavy pour of hysterical, heartfelt, and relatable short stories that really resonates. I loved how each shot of laughter is followed up with a chaser of practical lessons, advice, and guidance that is actually helpful and easy to digest. Like the perfect cocktail after a long grueling week, this book is exactly what we all need at this moment which seems to go down way too fast leaving you wanting 5 more! Cheers Kristin can’t wait for your next release.
Wow, y'all--THIS book...there's an absolute magic that occurs when someone shares their pure truth, goes out on a limb and opens themselves up. In the case of this book, there is also riotous humor, thankfully...joyfully-- but it settles over differently because you're completely enraptured. By the absurd, laugh out loud stories, yet more so for the pure wisdom that's being shared so lovingly. I'm hysterical...you're hysterical and thankfully, Kristin Giese is hysterical and we are all now much better off for it!
This book resonates so deeply, I felt the author was speaking directly to me. I hid from my family in a closet to read this is one sitting. I had a laugh/cry combo hit in me the face every single chapter.

I'll be the first to say that this is not the type of book I normally read and the title kind of made me feel like it wasn't really meant for me (a man). My wife, however, insisted that I needed to read it and she's the boss so I gave it a shot. Let me just tell you that I'm really glad I did! the book has a bit of a self-help vibe but is shrouded in the guise of hilarious anecdotes. Seriously, I was literally laughing out loud. The writing is really witty and relatable and, despite my inner curmudgeon, I found myself being uplifted. It's a quick read and definitely worth your time. Five Stars.
This was such a funny little memoir and such a quick read. It felt like it had barely begun before I ended up finishing it as I just couldn’t put it down! Kristin’s life has clearly been through so many ups and downs, like the rest of us, but the way that she approaches things and learns from them is something a lot of people could learn from. She writes this memoir with so much humour that it had been snorting with laughter at some parts and I could imagine being with her through her descriptive writing style! The only thing that I would change is that I would make it longer, I want to know so much more about her life!! A must read for any woman!
I was excited to read this and ended up really enjoying the author and her voice. Not every story resonated with me, but many did! They had me laughing and nodding along in agreement with the authors experiences. It definitely resonated deeply at times as a female reader. I love the title so much and thought a few of the stories truly captured the feelings it evokes. I"ll admit nonfiction is not my go to, so I really had high hopes going into this and it mostly met them!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
So many laugh out loud moments while reading this collection of essays. She would share her honest experience and then put in some wise wisdom based of what she has learned during her 40 years thus far, from attending a cat funeral, the search for a feather, pooping her pants and so much more! Would love to hear more stories from her! Such a fun escape during a world that is so heavy right now.
This book made my whole week. It's funny, whimsical, heart-warming, and all of the good things humanity needs right now. Kristin's like your best gal pal/hype woman/bad a** in business/the girl who would 100% give you a tampon and a pep talk in the bathroom all rolled into one. Do yourself a favor and pick up copies for all your friends - they'll thank you again and again for it. I'm giving this five stars, but wish I could give it 10.
Simply Wonderful! Kristin has always been an amazing story teller and very funny. This book is her....in blue paperback form...laid raw on these pages, exposing her tender underbelly like a cat who loves their owner. She is brilliant and insightful and wraps her knowledge in hilarious stories.....this is the best advice book I have ever read and I am immediately buying this for my tribe!!! Don't miss out on this one. You won't be disappointed. Bravo Kristin...bravo!!
Quirky, funny and full of relatable tales, Another Hysterical Female is a must-read for anyone. Through hilarious tellings of childhood exploits and stories of what’s it’s like to be a woman in today’s world, this book is an inspirational read that’s full of memorable life lessons. The author’s conversational writing drew me in from the first page and her vulnerability had me coming back for more.
I was over the moon when I heard Kristin Giese had a new book, as her first novel, Unverified, was absolutely amazing. Another Hysterical Female is different though. It's a work of nonfiction and ultimately self-help, though in a fun and direct way. Through quoting her own hysterical stories, the author then sums up each story with lessons we can take away and use within our own lives. Though a short listen, this book packed a lot in and I enjoyed having a laugh.
If you want a book to make you laugh, like LOL funny, then read Kristin Giese’s Book, “Another Hysterical Female: Mostly Funny Stories To Fix Us”. Her stories were uplifting, entertaining and offers advice at the same time. I was not expecting to like this book as much as I did and I can’t wait to read her next book.
Thank you #NetGalley for this book in exchange for my honest review! All of the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
To laugh and to learn! I absolutely loved this book! I couldn’t put it down and kept coming back for more. Giese is a true story teller and knows how to engage the reader with authentic and unique stories. I laughed, I cried, and almost peed myself with the hysterical one liners. The learning take-always based on each experience will forever be invaluable and I will reflect on them in my daily life. I cannot wait to see what Giese writes next! Xoxo
Another Hysterical Female is a heartfelt and feel good read of some absolutely 'hysterical' stories that the author experienced and/or observed and each story is topped with some practical life advice! A great read if you're feeling down and out and need a pick me up to make you laugh and give you hope!
The stories in this collection were fun, however this was a different reading experience than I expected. I wasn’t expecting this to be a self help type of book, but that’s on me for not looking at more tags. The stories were fun as I said however I didn’t find the “lessons” very groundbreaking and it seemed to be very repetitive after getting about halfway through the book.
Ok, this book had me laughing throughout. I had insomnia and decided to read a bit…well, I ultimately read through and finished it! So much for sleeping. I found the writing refreshing, funny, and completely witty. A collection of life experiences that I’m so glad she shared because we get to benefit from the humor of it all! If you are in the mood for something funny and smart, look no further!
This book had many laugh out loud moments. I heard about the book on the It’s All Me podcast. I recommend listening to episode #44 prior to reading the book. The magic happens in the last chapters. This book might be the last self help book you need to read!
I really enjoyed this short story style memoir. Kristen is funny and endearing and her writing style is engaging. I was hooked in the first few pages and read this book with incredible speed.
Thanks to all moxie ink for providing a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
Hilarious short stories. A very easy read with laugh out loud moments which also manage to put things in perspective...putting a positive and optimistic twist on all of life's challenges.
Honest and real stories about this authors life and career. All wrapped up with loads of humor and a side of advice. Can’t wait to read more from this author!
