Rate this book
Amazon No 1 New Release, No1 Bestseller January 2022. This is a book for enthusiasts not an instruction book, though it does contain many useful tips on threading and maintenance. This book is the extended full paperback version about one of the finest sewing machines ever made, the incomparable Singer 201. For nearly 30 years the model 201 was the Singer Companies flagship domestic sewing machine, even being presented to the British Royal Family. Here for the first time is its detailed history loaded with fascinating facts.

Engineer, writer and Master Craftsman, Alex Askaroff has spent a lifetime in the sewing trade. With Eleven No1 New Releases on Amazon Alex has gained a worldwide following, captivating readers for decades.

Machinists, fed up with constantly breaking machines and poor quality stitching started to look at older machines. Some stood out from the crowd, the Swiss Bernina, Swedish Husqvarna and German Pfaff machines were there. Professional and hobby machinists also started seeking out these retro beauties. On top of that pile standing proud was the amazing Singer 201. No one had to sell it to the users, it sold itself. It sewed like no other and sung while it did it, creating a perfect stitch. Here for the first time is a closer look at one of the finest sewing machines ever made.

Alex is very enthusiastic about the 201.I do feel, however, that the book is a little repetitive and could have included many more details about the 201. Much of the time he is comparing it to other machines. The section on different colour 201 s really needed to be in colour to be informative. I appreciate this would have made it costly.
I love my 201,but I don't feel I have gained much from reading the book. A little disappointing, especially since everyone else seems to give it 5 stars

I found this very interesting as a sewer using owns vintage sewing machines. This would also interest history students as well.
