About the author
Etgar Keret
136 books2,439 followersBorn in Ramat Gan in 1967, Etgar Keret is a leading voice in Israeli literature and film. His books have been published in over four dozen languages and his writing has appeared in The New York Times, Le Monde and The New Yorker, among others. His awards include the Cannes Film Festival's "Caméra d'Or" (2007), the Charles Bronfman Prize (2016) and the prestigious Sapir Prize (2018). Over a hundred short films and several feature films have been based on his stories. Keret teaches creative writing at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Since 2021, he has been publishing the weekly newsletter "Alphabet Soup" on Substack.

Dad is really, really excited when the circus comes to town. He drags his family to the mostly-empty show and enjoys it more than anyone else. His wife and children are a bit confused and embarrassed by his behavior. But those feelings turn to shock when they realize that Dad is actually going to run away with the circus! A cute story about a man having both a mid-life crisis and a dream. Silly but fun book.

This is a bizarre story about the circus and, as the title suggests, how a father runs away to the circus. The illustrations were cartoonish and the story was very far-fetched, but entertaining. Our girls enjoyed watching the story on the Tumblebooks website. (www.tumblebooks.com) We've watched it a few times.

This is just plain old silly - a good book for a Friday. Who ever heard of a dad running away to the circus. Some dads are crazy. This one definitely made us laugh!

Un libro a la vez melancólico (un padre huye de su familia para satisfacer sus deseos), a la vez que inspirador (un padre huye de su familia para satisfacer sus deseos). Los detalles a conjunto entre autor e ilustrador (las cartas llegadas de cada rincón del mundo) son una delicia, y proponen un divertido juego de imaginación.
La lectura, aunque simple, tiene muchos elementos para considerar; y, como un circo, muchas sorpresas que dar.

Durante la cuarentena del año 2020 participé por primera vez de un taller de escritura (el de Vero Sukaczer, que siempre recomiendo). 📄✒️
Allí me di cuenta de que estos talleres no sirven únicamente para aprender a escribir sino también para aprender a leer y conocer diversos estilos y autores.
Entre todos los que conocí se encontraba Etgar Keret.
El primer cuento, Romper el cerdito, leído en 2020 me pareció maravilloso de principio a fin; la verosimilitud de la voz infantil, la historia, la resolución del conflicto. Lo amé completamente y me encantaría tener el libro en mi biblioteca, pero es difícil de conseguir.
El segundo cuento lo leímos el año pasado y fue muy agradable reencontrarme con el autor. Se titula Mentiralandia (pueden leerlo en la página de @eternacadencia) y forma parte del libro de cuentos De repente un golpe en la puerta, edición publicada por @editorialsextopiso. Otro libro que debo comprar.
En el mientras tanto conseguí Papá escapó con el circo, publicado por @fceargentina. 📙
El libro es parte de la colección Los primerísimos, pero puede ser disfrutado por cualquier edad porque está lleno de capas de lectura.
Keret y la ilustradora Rutu Modan logran que texto e imágenes se conjuguen de tal manera que la lectura de las últimas sean imprescindibles para darle un sentido más acabado a la historia.
En algunas obras la línea entre Libro ilustrado y Libro álbum es muy fina. Creo que Papá escapó del circo es un ejemplo muy claro de ello.

Hermosa lección de empatía hacia los padres. Hacía el pasado de los padres. Lo que nos apasiona en el presente viene de algún hecho oculto del pasado. Uno infiere que el papá del papá, perteneció al circo y por eso le entusiasma tanto. El circo es una metáfora de la pasión en este libro.
