Picking up where the first volume leaves off, this volume continues the excellence. A rip roaring adventure from start to finish! Here we are introduced to new, worthy heroes, and a really tough, scaly villain with a surprisingly noble heart.

The new hero character Maam, uses gizmos mixed with magic to her advantage. It makes her fairly unique here, and her characterization is more mature than Dai, and more noble than Popp, but she has her own drives and flaws that are as strong as theirs.

But what’s really interesting is Crocodine. Like the name implies, he’s a big, tough crodilian man, akin to the Batman foe Killer Croc. What makes him different than previous opponents is his drive, which isn’t really conquest or some consuming evil, but a drive for a worth opponent. And what makes him interesting is that once he finds one, he’s not quite sure he wants to give him up.

This captivating by Riko Sanjo is all part of a beautiful tapestry with crisp artwork by Koji Inada. Inada’s work follows in Akira Toriyama;s footsteps, but manages to impress all on its own. It’s crisp, detailed, and the action sequences feel like unique, with an almost samurai film-like pacing. Which, when juxtaposed with the pseudo-European fantasy setting, feels quite refreshing.

Honestly this is a series I’m gonna keep up with and I can’t wait to snag the next volume.

Another fun little romp in the world of Dragon Quest! Like the previous volume, nothing particularly complicated or unexpected happens here, but that’s fine, it’s Dragon Quest! As always, Inada’s artwork is a joy to behold. He’s no Toriyama but still, some very charming cartooning going on here. Particularly fond of the crocodile guy’s design.

I enjoyed the second volume of this fast reading Manga. Dai assembles a party including Popp and Mam, two other adventurers. The book was fast paced with a lot of action scenes that made it a very quick read. I liked the villain, Crocodine and thought he made for an interesting adversary for this volume.

A worthy continuation. This series reads like a dragon quest game plays which is exactly what I wanted. Can't wait to read the others.

Even our villains learn a thing or two throughout this one.
