Brutus had found his groove in Arrowtown. Having traveled with Ra and his friends for years, he was now content to help out Fergus at the local bakery and spend his free time as an uncle to his friend's children. Finding a mate was one of those "it might be nice one day" scenarios, that Brutus wasn't chasing too hard. Until he got home one day and was greeted with the alluring scent of strawberries and cream. The man coming down the stairs to greet him was exactly Brutus's type, but the big bear shifter had never considered having a human as a mate.
Heath's bad day had been going on for weeks. Escaping his dray was just the first step in a string of bad luck experiences that looked like they were finally turning around when he met up with some friendly shifters in Arrowtown. Being taken to a huge house and quite literally meeting his mate that same day, was amazing. Was it too much to hope that Heath's luck had finally changed?
But Heath's ex-alpha was not a forgiving type, and biker squirrels were no joke. Add in a squirrel desperate to shift, and a little girl Fae with a love of all things pink and purple, and Heath and Brutus's mating seems to be one surprise after another. But even surprises can out live their usefulness and maybe the last surprise is the one that breaks Heath and Brutus both.
Brutus's Surprise is an MM Paranormal Romance story that can be read as a standalone, although a deeper appreciation of the secondary characters and the world rules can be had, if you read the previous books in the series. As always, some bad language, a spot of violence and intimate situations between adults are included. Please store your ebooks responsibly.
Lisa Oliver had been writing non-fiction books for years when visions of half dressed, buff men started invading her dreams. Unable to resist the lure of her stories, Lisa decided to switch to fiction books, and now stories about her men clamor to get out from under her fingertips. When Lisa is not writing, she is usually reading with a cup of tea always at hand. Her grown children and grandchildren sometimes try and pry her away from the computer and have found that the best way to do it, is to promise her chocolate. Lisa will do anything for chocolate. Loved this book! I started reading and couldn't put it down til I finished it. Totally recommend this book! You won't be disappointed! The town and residents are wonderful, the ideal community. Makes me wish I was a member of their town.
I think one of the things I like best about this series is the diversity in animal forms and human sides. Heath might be a small, twinkish squirrel shifter but he's sassy and caring and tough. Although he is being hunted by his old dray (squirrel pack), he strives to keep a positive attitude and tries to embrace finding his fated mate. Brutus may be an endangered California Grizzly, big and muscled, but inside he's just a sort marshmallow! I like how the apex shifters aren't all portrayed as walking aggressive, testosterone factories. They can be sweet and caring and vulnerable. The smaller prey shifters are allowed to be fierce in spirit and strong in character. It's a nice change from stereotypical roles and makes the characters feel more realistic. Relatable. This was a great addition to the series and I'm very excited to see who finds their fated mate next. As much as I want Nessie to get his HEA, I'm still holding out for Mal and Rocky to discover that they are actually mates - maybe they just need a third to jumpstart things! Fingers crossed! 😁
Brutus had been a favourite of mine since he first offered Seth chicken wings in A Tiger's Tale. Since then I've waited patiently for Brutus to find his mate and I'm not disappointed. Well... maybe there could have been more chicken wings.
Lisa has delivered another soul mates book that delivers on conflict and satisfying happily ever after. This time she focused on the outside influences instead of how difficult blending two lives can be and it was refreshing. Honestly besides saying how brilliant this book is I'm not sure what else I can say that won't be a spoiler. If you're a fan of lisa you'll love this, and if you like low angst, happy characters who love each other, start reading it
I love reading about different shifters and this one has a bear and a squirrel as fated mates. Brutus lives with some of the couples from the previous books and Heath is the one seeking refuge in town. And on top of fleeing Heath is unable to shift and Brutus thinks that his fated mate is human. Brutus and Heath are a lovely pair, the town once again shows that they are a great community for those who has nowhere to go and I'm really interested in Nessies story.
This book was different from the earlier ones in the series. For one thing there was no Mpreg as both Brutus and Heath were furry shifters, so neither could fall pregnant. They also accepted they were fated mates upon first meeting. The fun began when they started to learn exactly what that meant. It was the same as the others in that it had a great plot that took part in the middle of a caring and loving community. All in all another great addition to a great series.
Loved the story. Our little squirrel acts just like I'd expect a squirrel shifter to act, hyper and crazy for nuts. Brutus has always been a sweetheart and seeing him finally get his happily ever after is rewarding. Im worried about rocky. He's been on a sweet kick for a while and I'm wondering if finding his mate/mates will fix that.
Absolutely fabulous - Great story. Besides the kidnapping and some other things so easy to go with. That's how love works. Finding it and make it precious. Very good job and therefore lovely to read. Thanks to you, my dear Lisa. As always and I can't wait for every next story of every realm you created where we readers can find happiness away from the Tristesse of the everyday monotony or the stupidness our fellow creatures.
The beginning words in the first chapter did it for me with the suspense of a harrowing escaping to survive. And then Heath running smack into his mate. I enjoyed this book immensely and recommend reading all of Lisa Oliver books. She is one of my favorite authors.
Love the story Can't wait to get the next book hopefully Ness find what he looking for. Glad that Clay found this two mates to take care of him. It was sad what that alpha did. Would recommend it
Ms. Oliver does it again. I had been eagerly awaiting Brutus' story and this book didn't disappoint. He and Heath were a great match. This was a wonderful addition to the series. Now I'm looking forward to reading Rocky, Mal, and Jesse's stories.
Of course anything Liz Oliver write gets read immediately.. Love Arrow town too and seeing the characters again was great ...I can't wait for the next book in this series
Another absolutely wonderful story! So much going on but love it!!! Love drama danger! So much family connection and acceptance! Makes me want Clay's story as well as the much anticipated Rocky and Mal!
TerriFic story. The characters are well written as always and the plot holds you. There are a couple of hints in the story of future stories. Great work as usual Lisa.
Brutus and Heath. MM. mentions Mpreg. Heath is a flying squirrel and Brutus is a Bear. Hope we find out what is happening with that factory, where Heath fell into the vat and was unable to shift. Great read. Recommend.
It seems flying squirrels were just what arrow town needed. Our town showed again that they were not only a town, but a community and a community made up of friends. Two great matings With some outside agitation, but the flying squirrels end up with a new alpha
I love our sweet baker bear! Heath is the absolute perfect mate for our sweetheart of a bear. I enjoy all the stories of Arrowtown. Our town takes care of its family!
The shifters of Arrowtown feel almost like family by now.
It was sweet and nutty and all the flavours. The only thing I would have wished for was seeing the squirrels in action and kicking butt. It was said that they were feisty and to watch out but there was no claw and teeth action.
Can't wait for the next one! Who is it going to be? Mal, Ricky, Nessie? Is Nessie Mal or Ricky's mate?
Awesome. I loved this story. It was great revisiting the two previous books before reading this new one. I love all of Arrowtown. They are a great group of paranormals. I am so looking forward to the next book in the series.
