È ora di dimostrare il tuo valore!
This story is not just sexualizing girls, it is also sexualizing cosplay and female cosplayers as a whole. If you want to read a manga series about dressmaking and the cosplay subculture, please look somewhere else!
Let me tell you one thing, I don't mind reading about authors writing and expressing their sexual fantasies about different women or teenage girls all that much as long as it's done in an artful and/or slightly-realistic way, but this series offers none.
Plus I really cannot stand the heroine and her 'innocent sweet girl' act, which is entirely unrealistic. I don't really mind if the girl is horny, likes to display her body and/or wants to sexing the male lead up, I don't really care, but I can't stand her doing/saying highly suggestive things around the male lead and acting like she doesn't know the stupid things she said are suggestive and she basically is actively leading the male lead on.
I skimmed through the whole volume but the story doesn't seem to touch upon any in-depth things. For example, the main characters' personality and their background/upbringing, their relationship or the cosplay sub-culture, and then at the end of the story..........another girl-cosplayer who is even younger (or at least younger-looking) than the female lead is being thrown into the mix.
Plus no one in the story has ever addressed the fact that the heroine, an underage girl is obsessed with harem-themed games about young girls as sex slaves. I mean I don't have too many issues about the existence of this game in the storyline but I hate that no one is addressing how problematic it is. Sorry, I don't think I will linger around any longer.
PSS: the original Japanese title of this series calls the heroine as a "Dress-up Doll", so does it mean the heroine is being viewed (at least by her creator) as a doll to dress up with more than a human being? Sorry, this is getting even more uncomfortable for me.
As the second volume of this series, this is a worthy follow up. It wraps up the first major arc, establishing the friendship between the main characters. It is this burgeoning relationship that makes this title another fun and sweet read, making you smile involuntarily as you read it.
”The class loner and the class beauty strike up a secret relationship?” - “Through training to become an artisan who crafts Hina doll heads, Wakana Gojo is instead making a cosplay costume for Marin Kitagawa, the class “it" girl. As if this turn of events wasn't shocking enough, Wakana discovers that his first creation is due in...just two weeks?! But with a reward like Marin's smile hopefully waiting at the end of it all, Wakana steels himself and dives in. Will the result of his hard work be enough to satisfy Marin’s expectations?”
My Dress Up Darling inspires me to get into better shape so I can start cosplaying ASAP lol 🥰 the artwork in this series is truly wonderful 😍 and yes it’s a bit cheeky, so if you don’t like cheeky, then this isn’t the series for you.. it’s very humorous though !! 🖤
So I strongly suggest watching OR reading this series. I already watched season 1 and loved it so much had to pick up the manga.
Marin, aka, wifeu goddess is just trying to cosplay. This volume focuses on Gojo making her first ever cosplay. It takes a lot of work, and he almost loses hope, but Gojo pushes forward and finishes by the deadline. Except that wasn't Marin's actual deadline, she was just mentioning there's a showcase. But since he finished, they decide to go to the convention anyway!
This is a super cute volume but also great to learn about how much work goes into cosplay. Simple things like even eyelashes can be very big part of the costume. I also loved the ending, it's SO freaking adorable and such a nice change of pace. It helps Gojo and Marin are both great lead characters that bounce off each other well.
Sexy shots aside, which I'll take, cause this artist is amazing. She really knows how to do sexy, helps she's a woman and knows the angles and such better, but man the sexy covers between chapters? Butt shots and boobs? I'll take em.
But the main core story is far less dirty with SO much heart, and works so well. I can't recommend it enough for romance/slice of life fans. A 4.5 out of 5.
Cosplay chaos erupts this volume as Wakana nearly wrecks himself, Marin makes her big debut, and things really start to simmer underneath the surface.
This series works for me because it has such good leads in Wakana and Marin. The best pairings are two people who make one another better and these two are a delight to watch, especially with Wakana’s doll head thing absent from this volume.
Marin’s aggressively positive personality and boundless appreciation for Wakana’s skills (and notably she likes his abilities with both dolls AND cosplay, showing she’s not just in it for her own ends) helps bolster his confidence and very gently shows him new things he would otherwise miss.
He, on the other hand, is literally making her dreams come true and his methodical approach to everything means he knows how to handle things Marin never thinks of. He is the perfect support character for somebody that gung-ho.
The points where these two realize they truly like each other are note perfect - Wakana both consciously and subconsciously acknowledges this in very understated fashion, while Marin’s is an appropriately over the top (and hilarious) stream of consciousness in her head.
Marin remains amazingly chill in her own body and I love that most every time that Wakana thinks she’s going to go too far it turns out that he’s projecting his uptight assumptions. Not to say there’s a dearth of fan service, if you’re here for it, but I think this book balances the two pretty well.
I’m not sure that Wakana’s grandfather is adding a ton yet, though divorced from his running gag it is amazing to see him and his grandson explode into a technical discussion of Wakana’s costume work (Marin is the perfect audience surrogate in this moment).
This book is awash in cosplay minutiae that I genuinely enjoyed - I know so much more about eyebrow construction now... but it also marries it with a couple that I’m genuinely cheering on, rather than just watching them go through the motions. Strong recommend.
This is more of a 3.5, but I'm rounding up because I like the characters so much. I feel like the fanservice was unnecessarily increased in a couple of places, but the development of Wakana and Marin's relationship is so rewarding that I'm willing to put up with a lot just to follow it.
Ponownie zakochana jestem stylem rysowania.
Same jej reakcje są bezcenne i warte ujrzenia ;)
I’m still not loving the all the fan service. There’s also a new character introduced, Juju, a child-like cosplayer who is actually older than Wakana and Marin. Hopefully she grows on me later in the series. I’m continuing this series because I love Wakana and Marin’s characters and I’m interested in their relationship.
The big event! I really like the guy's earnestness and the range of emotions between the two leads. They both have their strengths, weaknesses, loves, and vulnerabilities that make them very human. It's fun seeing their back and forth and relationship developing.
I feel like the fan service is a bit less gratuitous this time, but it's still definitely there.
Initially thought I spotted a typo on page 137, but I was mistaken and it makes sense in retrospect.
Feel like there's some nuance missing in the creator comics at the end. Like some meaning is left out or not conveyed well
Recap: grandpa is gone to recover, gojo crashes out over the two week deadline. He disappears for a week and finishes the cosplay. Marin is surprised because she didn’t think he’d finish so fast. They costest, she’s excited and they go to the event anyways. Her pictures are taken, overheating, cool down, and they leave. His gramps is back, Marin realizes she likes him, and gramps invites her to come over to eat more because she lives on her own.
The hijinks, fan service, and burgeoning romance continue in this second Volume. Highlights/Summary: - Wakana brings home the materials for Marin's cosplay and his Grandpa passes out, assuming the clothes are for the young man. LOL Grandpa goes to stay with Wakana's cousin Miori when he hurts his back, her place being closer to the hospital. - Wakana gets extremely overwhelmed with all that life is throwing at him, but remembers advice from his Grandpa and pushes through, finishing Marin's cosplay the night before it's due - Seeing him stressed, Marin admits that she gave him an arbitrary deadline, not one set in stone, and apologizes - Marin looks amazing as Shizuku-tan, especially after Wakana does her makeup. - They go to a cosplay meetup area where people are taking lots of pics. Marin does get quite a lot of attention. - Overheated, another awkward (and hilarious) scene occurs between them both when he helps her cool down. - On the train home, Wakana, starting to doze off, admits that Marin looked really pretty, which causes her to freak out as he said he reserves that term for when he really means it. - Grandpa returns home and meets Marin, getting the full explanation for the lingerie. Seeing how he treats his Grandpa, combined with all his hard work and attentiveness to her.... Marin has started to fall for him. - As a transition to the next Volume scene, Grandpa runs into a young girl who is looking for Wakana....
This is a pretty feel good book, and I'm enjoying it. Definitely going to continue the series. With the romance and niceness and cosplay as the focus, I don't mind the fan service at all.
- 4/5🧵 This second volume is also very cute. The relationship between the protagonists develops a lot and I feel that in the next volumes there will be something more than friendship (and I really hope that happens because they are so cute together haha). I really liked Gojo's determination and the fact that he worked so hard to make the first costume happen in time for the cosplay event and not to disappoint Marin's expectations. Let's see what happens next!
So Gojo is on a time crunch to finish Marin’s costume in two weeks… at least that’s the assumption he gets. On top of his grandfather’s health and exams, Gojo is spread REALLY thin.
But Marin is very surprised yet appreciative when Gojo has it done in time for her first con, and it is PERFECT. She looks just like Shituzu from Slippery Girls 2, and the fan from the con think so too!
The end brings a home cooked meal for grandpa and Marin, in which Marin realizes… she may be in love with Gojo?!
I loved the anime, and I am absolutely loving reading the manga. It’s like experiencing it for the first time all over again.

This series is amazing! Tension between Marin and Gojo is extremely real and I just want so much to see them confessing love to each other...! Never expected to like some manga genre romance including cosplay to be so fun and charming for me!
Well what a volume! The build up to the big cosplay event was awesome with so much going on but Gojo pushing through was rather inspiring! Marin is just a bundle of smiles and energy, which in turn makes me smile as I read it.
The last few panels really gets the romance side simmering quite nicely and im excited yo read vol.3!
Fan service aside, this is a cute manga. The characters are so loveable. Their relationship is adorable and the cosplay/sewing parts are interesting. However, I still don’t recommend this series. Don’t read this series based on my review, mmmkkk???
