im not sold on picking up another volume. i kinda have shudders over the 'glass needles falling from the sky' thing- turns my stomach and it feels intentional soooooo im concerned for my future self. joe hill is steven kings son, so watch out!

Honeysuckle is a beautifully relatable character that did not deserve all the heart ache and hurt she went through. At least she gained a pretty great kid.

Honeysuckle sat with Yolanda’s body as the sun came up on a ruined world. There was immediate reaction, every channel of communication is backed up and unusable, claims are going around about industrial accidents or planned terrorist attacks, but only one thing is certain…the rain so starting to spread. Honeysuckle desperately wants to talk to Yolanda’s father to make sure he is okay and to give him the hard news, which is where a conversation with Temp’s mother becomes so important. She talked about the days after her husband drove off a cliff, she never felt so alone or helpless before and she couldn’t bring him back. So she understands how helpless Honeysuckle feels right now, but what else can she do than doing what the people you loved would have wanted. What would Yolanda have wanted her to do? How can you live for her, and through that you won’t feel so helpless anymore. Honeysuckle agrees and decides to head out to Denver (about 30 miles away) to find Yolanda’s father. That’s what Yolanda would want and what she would do for her. So honeysuckle straps on their books and heads out into an area where the law will be stretched then and you can drive because of all the nails, promising she will come right back when she is done. She packed the letter from Yolanda’s father, not ready to read it yet and not able to say goodbye to Yolanda. As she started to leave she immediately passed Temp who offered her an umbrella in case the rain hasn’t moved on yet. She knows it won’t do a lick of a good but she thanks him for the offer and makes him keep it.
But Honeysuckle ran into another group while trying to leave, the leader and his cronies of the comet cult officially known as the church of the seventh dimensional Christ. Seems if you predict the end of the world everyday you are bound to be right at least once, and with Honeysuckle heading for Denver they get the wrong idea that she is going to tell the FBI that their leader predicted the rain…and they can’t have her doing that. But as Honeysuckle went out into the world she was struck by the overwhelming sense of loss as she almost felt bad for her own grief as she looks around at the 8000+ dead and thinks of everyone else in her exact same position. Down the road she ended up finding a man calling for a cat underneath a bus. The cat is hurt and jar going to make it, but he has the opportunity to say goodbye. Without even thinking it could be a trap honeysuckle got down next to him to try and help…but then the storm clouds started to roll in. Rain is coming. Honeysuckle tried to get the man to safety with her but he is much larger and isn’t budging, and she can’t move him, so as he crawled underneath the bus she ducked inside.
It rained for 4 minutes this time and there was no sing of the man or his cat. The nails come up to be ankles now, and she is only able to step out of the bus before a metal dish cracks her in the side of the head. Two of the cultists caught up to her and knocked her out. She remained dazed and confused and they approached her, intending to bring her back to the elder to “save her.” When she demands an explanation and they mention their plans to stop her going to the FBI. She almost thinks about arguing and explaining where she is actually going…but thankfully she doesn’t have to as the man who just wanted to be with his cat shows back up again to stand in their way. Honeysuckle also Isn’t one to back down from a fight, and with a few nails clenched in her fist she takes the first strike by clawing down the side of one of the cultists face. This prompts cat guy to kick the other one down into the nails where he breaks the guys nose and then knees him in the face and then uses the dish to knock out the other one. Honeysuckle and the man take a moment to truly get acquainted and breathe as he introduces himself as Marc DeSpot. Well, that’s his wrestling name at least, his real name is DeSoto, and the pun name goes with the x on his chest to mark the spot, lol. He asks about where she is going, and offers to come with her to help. He has nothing else going on and after getting his cat out from under the bus and taking shelter in a local Starbucks he was able to say goodbye to ha buddy. The least he could do is come along for the ride with her. But it seems someone else has come along as well, as right behind them now stands Temp…holding his umbrella to deliver to Honeysuckle as he wows worried she would need it. Awwww, kid. You really shouldn’t have.

I might have spoken too welll about the first part. I disliked how much boring dialog there was between Honeysuckle and mum of the vampire kid about the dad, cause before stuff was just moving faster. The middle part with the second rain was okay, but the last page was just kinda eh. How truly unexpected, that something like that would happen.

Amazing once again. I love post apocalyptic stuff like this, I think this series is gonna be amazing. I love the writing and I’m super excited with the direction the story is going!
