This is a collection of non-fiction short stories, compiled in a random order, as opposed to a chronological one, covering various phases of England’s history.

Most stories are lively told, which makes for engaging reading. I liked the opening story best, which is about Frances Stuart, Duchess of Richmond.

One or two stories bored me, but on the whole, this collection proved to be a very good read.

Very entertaining for those interested in the romantic lives of royalty. It reads like a tabloid or gossip column, only written in a cultured tone.

The title is somewhat deceiving because some of it doesn't deal with romance at all, but are just tales of notorious aristocrats. Yet it still managed to be solidly interesting.
