In this transformative coming-of-age western a devastating fire sends Rowdy hot on the trail in a twist of vengeful pursuit…
When Rowdy returns from a hunting trip he discovers the Circle ‘R’ has been burned down and Dog severely injured. Searching for answers, he finds a clue that just might lead him to an old foe. Filled with anger, frustration, and pain, Rowdy once again sets off with Roberson and Cappy to face Patrick Byrne, the man behind the ruthless attacks.
Things go awry on their trip north when they stop to help travelers, and Rowdy and Roberson soon realize they have been double-crossed. Taken captive by bandits, Rowdy, now a prisoner, must await his fate. Forced to fight for survival, Rowdy takes a stand with Byrne.
Rowdy’s journey from Lincoln started as a vengeful pursuit, but somewhere along the way he came to the realization that no matter their acts, it was not for him to decide the fate of another. Leaving Rowdy to wonder, can he find Redemption of his own?
“Rowdy’s vulnerability and forthrightness make his character relatable to people of all ages and backgrounds.”– Early Reader

This collection is not for the faint of heart, as it follows the young protagonist, Rowdy, through a life marred by tragedy and shaped by the relentless pursuit of justice. A great young adult book, showing that facing your fears does not have to be something you do alone. Rowdy returned from a hunting trip with Roberson to find the devastation of the Circle R ranch. Leading to a cowboy investigation to what happened, getting help for dog, and learning he has to face Patrick Byrne or spend his life running. The hardest part is others payed for the vendetta between them. Its a dark story of the problems of the west, but also lesson of how we need to depend on others, and understand that many people look for the best in others. Chris Mullen does a great job teaching young readers lessons about friendship, responsibility and facing your fears. Bringing back the west to young readers.
My second book from this author the story of a troubled young man Rowdy still trying to find his way through all his problems and struggles. Fast pace with a real sense of being in the moment.
Rowdy is a great character who, faced with an obstacle, always tries to do the right thing. A great role model for a teen and an enjoyable read for any age, especially those with a love for the old West. It’s wholesome and engaging. A rare gem.
Rowdy comes home from hunting and finds the Circle R burned to the ground by Byrnes' men. He thought he might be safe living so far from Dodge City, but Byrnes is vengeful. Now Rowdy is out for Redemption. Will he get it?
Excellent coming of age story geared toward young acults and those who enjoy westerns. The main character Rowdy is also an orphans and pretty much raises himself with the help of good mentors. As he makes difficult decisions, he comments about why he made those decisions.
