Treasure Falls Brides #1

Our Fugitive Bride

Rate this book
Fleeing her past, Mary runs straight into the arms of danger.

Mary Beattle had to run. Even now, the law is searching for her. There was no time to bury her sister. No time to explain her actions. Only a chance to pack a bag and get on a stage out of town. Then she meets a matchmaker and soon finds herself as a mail-order bride. Wanting a fresh start, Mary gets the shock of a lifetime when she reaches Treasure Falls, Montana.

After a sordid beginning, Andrew Larsen and Jesse Sanders have turned their lives around. Now they own the local mine. They’re wealthy, powerful men in the small town of Treasure Falls. But there are no women, so they order brides for the men in town.

What a surprise when the stage pulls in and they discover the matchmaker has outdone herself. But the woman they choose brings peril to Treasure Falls—a menace that threatens their tenuous hold on their bride and exposes the unsavory aspect of their pasts.

The premise of this was solid; the execution fell far short :(

The writing style was like reading a 9th grader's attempt at writing an essay before they learned how to write COMPLETE sentences, how to use punctuation effectively, and how to "show" vs "tell" you the story. There was a lot of unnecessary repetition throughout... for example, while the story is written in 3rd person, it shifts focus from character to character. When it is slanted from the h's perspective, information is relayed and then the exact same information is revisited when it switches to a different MC. It is also hard sometimes to ascertain which H is which in the dialogue because there are cases where the paragraphs are not broken up so one might be speaking then it shifts to the other without clearly indicating it is the other H. Also, the sentences were short and abrupt; the flow was constantly interrupted with that much chop. The way it was written made it hard to read.

While i get that it is a work of fiction, there needs to be some elements of the story that are believable, and the h was not even close to what an actual virgin that grew up in a relatively privileged family in antebellum Charleston, SC would be like. She was much too quick to accept that she would have 2 husbands and that anal would be involved. That definitely would have taken some convincing for a woman that had no first hand knowledge of sex. And the sex scenes themselves were not very exciting - again because of the sentence chop and the over eagerness of a virgin. The way people talked about sex was definitely not true to that time period.

Overall, I would not recommend this book. It just missed the mark completely for me.

Plot --- 1.5/5
Writing Style --- 1/5
Main Characters --- 2/5
Supporting Cast --- 1.5/5
Steam Level* --- 4.25/5 (everything but M/M)
Violence --- some (her sister was beaten by her husband; some descriptions of fight scenes)
Triggers --- descriptions of domestic abuse
Language --- some
POV --- 3rd

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

3.5 smut-scale stars!

I love reading these smutty MFM cowboy romances by Lacey. Mary and her men, Andrew and Jesse are a perfect match. This was a quick read with suspense and intrigue and of course some smutty action. The women are naive and a little silly but strong. The men are a little bossy with some ridiculous requests but if you're looking for a quick palate cleanser, look no further.

THIS IS MY FUTURE

The story is the first in a new series, Treasure Falls Brides, in Montana. This town is founded on the principles of two men and one woman triad. Because life is hard and dangerous, it allows for security for a family in the event that one of the husbands was to die. For the town to expand, they require more brides, and an ad is sent, requesting eight brides—but the matchmaker leaves out the part where two men would claim each bride-to-be.

“To new beginnings. Let’s focus on our futures and not our pasts.”

Mary Beattle needs to escape Charleston, and when she meets up with the matchmaker posting signs for brides, she signs on immediately and is allowed to stay until she and the other brides are heading to Montana. Mary is running, she witnessed her brother-in-law beat her twin sister to death, and she fears retribution if she is caught. Will Montana be an escape or a prison sentence?
Andrew Larsen and Jesse Sanders are now upstanding citizens and mine owners in Treasure Falls—they have wealth, but they need a wife and send off to a matchmaker. When the stage arrives with eight women, Andrew immediately knows that Mary is the one for them.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people. The matchmaker keeps it a secret that the brides are heading to a triad union, reminding them that they can return after two weeks. For Mary, she knows she will never return to Charleston because she fears she is a wanted woman. Even Andrew and Jesse have secrets they haven’t shared. As the couples get to know each other, it leaves Mary unsure how a union with two men will work, and she finally gets her chance to talk with Aunt Grace, who assures her it is a union full of bliss.

Jesse: Did you speak to Aunt Grace?
Mary: Yes, she explained how things work in a marriage with two men.
Andrew: And what do you think?
Mary: I’m curious. I’m frightened. But I am still undecided. You have yet to convince me.
Andrew: He liked this woman. She was naughty and nice and they would unlock all the spice.

The story kept the pages turning as it unfolded. I liked the chemistry between Mary, Andrew, and Jesse. Eventually, the past will collide with the present—and it proves to these three that they can handle anything together. The story does have many explicit scenes, full of erotic passion.

. Our Fugitive Bride is the first installment of Lacey Davis’ Treasure Falls Bride series. In it, readers meet Mary Beatle, Jesse Sanders, and Andrew Larsen. In this polymeric romance readers observe how these three develop into a blended family. Their happiness is threatened by Mary’s dark secret-her sister’s murder by her husband. Mary attacks Frank Thompson when she realizes what he did to her sister. She flees the scene believing she has killed him. She signs on as a mail-order bride and arrives in Treasure Falls. Will Jesse and Andrew be able to keep Mary safe? Will their discovery of her secret end their relationship? Is happiness something in their future. You must read this book to find out.

Ms. Davis penned a delightful romance with strong multi-layered lead characters. This book The lead characters are strong, determined, confident and vulnerable. I enjoyed their growth as the story progressed. I liked the strong dialog. I appreciated the three-person point of view to tell their back stories. Ms. Davis’ use of descriptive language paints vivid scenes. Particularly, two scenes stand out. The first scene is when Mary discovers the horrific murder of her sister. The second is when Frank Thompson arrives in Treasure Falls seeking his revenge on Mary. These scenes and others make this a captivating read.

It started off strong, but by the end I was disappointed. Not hardly any M/M involved and the writing was disjointed and iffy. I finished it but I don't think I'll be continuing this series.

Our fugitive bride

An interesting story revolving around the mining town if Treasure Falls. Here the men have decided that each bride shall have two grooms. Hopefully the virgin brides will be believed about their innocence, even though their circumstances have necessitated their need to become a mail order bride. Enjoyed the first book, have now pre ordered the second!

Great Start to a series

I enjoyed this book. There was a twist with the drama in the book I did not expect. But you’ll have to read it yourself to find out! As always Lacey Davis delivered a book that had enough drama to keep it interesting but not so much that it overwhelms. I am ready to read the next one.

Spanking, unprovoked. Themes of d/s. Kinda bullshit plot. Not my cup of tea - women are not children and are not owned by men, and sex should not be about pain and control. I wish there were a lower than 1* rating.

Different

I enjoy a good Romance with menage. This one was different. Good plot and story creation but very mushy in parts. Would have preferred less sentimental bs.

This started out really good but went down the drain rather quick after she met her future husbands. The spicy scenes were honestly so cringe to me. And the writing was just alright.

This book has an amazing plot. However, the sentencing structure in some of these chapters is completely confusing. It also just feels like I'm reading a unenthusiastic sexting convo.

That was bad, it could’ve of been shorter if the characters hadn’t of been so repetitive of their pasts. Never thought I’d want a story shorter lol
