Just when it appears he might get to relax for a few days, the boss sends a telegram that sends Darius to a small town in northern New Mexico.
Apparently, some blood suckers have taken a liking to this little town, and it's his job to set things right.
But after he spends a few days in town, he realizes their problem is a lot bigger than a couple of rowdy vampires.
Entire families are being killed on the farms and ranches around the area, and as the numbers pile up, the townsfolk begin to think he might not be the answer to their problem. Even his horse is thinking this is where Darius is going to die.
Pick up Darius Monster Hunter today and prepare for a vampire plague of Biblical proportions. Because you never know when you might need a few pointers.
Great story! Fast paced, great dialogues and characters. Would love to read more of Darius James and Midnight’s adventures! Love the battle between Good and evil!
At a bit over 400 years old Darius James sometimes feels every day. One trick he's learned to help is to not become attached, to anyone. Except, in true cowboy fashion, his horse Midnight. Heaven Sent lives up to it's name and sends Darius along with other Monster Hunters on missions to fight against evil. After Darius has dispatched a pair of Wendigo up at the mine he returns to town only to find an unexpected vampire problem. This one nearly takes the heart out of him, because he has begun to care about the townspeople. When several mishaps, caused by well meaning townsfolk, allow the vampire to grow his family old friends start to gather. The only error was in the number of vampires in hiding. Just when you think they're down to four they multiply. Otherwise, it's a good tale with good vharacters.
Western with vampires?!? Cool! Cowboy easily kills three vampires but keeps getting in injured by one vampire and a new one at that. Cowboy avoids easy kills even though 400 years experience and Takes days to recover while the vampire … waits. Do it again twice then big battle. The hunters kill the other vampires pretty easily but then this single new vampire is so strong it almost kills all of them. Why did it flee them then and why didn’t the other vampires have those powers? The inconsistency annoyed me. And the cowboy not taking an easy kill show in a cave or blowing as escaping to kill the whole colony would have been easier too.
Characters are enjoyable but the laise faire way they talk about their jobs and excessive ages removes much of the ability to stay engrossed in the realm. Humanistic responses of the hunters allows for likability but most of the characters lack depth being more tropes than well developed.
So much action, adventure and danger! I truly enjoyed this story and loved the characters. Recommend this book of you are a fan of vampires getting tromped, windego conquering, or complete towns being saved!
The book is a nice quick read that kept me interested. It's a little predictable, but still entertaining. I just followed the author and will probably read some of his other books
Great story and told fast paced. Through the middle got bogged with multiple monsters but the ending tied it up nicely. Recommend it highly for lovers of cowboy genre or horror. The best of both worlds.
I really enjoyed this tale and the characters that populate it. The only that threw me off a little was the occasional use of modern phrases; it would push me out of the story for a moment or two. Really looking forward to the next book!
Loved the characters, the setting and the storyline. The writing is done very well. It has surprises, intrigue, love, friendship and a good resolution to the whole thing. Loved it.
Western Horror is my favorite genre and this book rates as one of the best ones I've read in all my years of following Western Horror. Loved every word in it. Fantastic read! 😁
I really enjoyed this book about a monster Hunter and the people of a town being stalked by vampires. I look forward to more adventures with James and Midnight! Four stars.
I wasn't sure what to expect.....and in so doing I started reading and didn't stop until I was finished. Loved the characters, enjoyed the humor and certainly had alot of action. So thank you Glenn Casey.
Exciting and funny at times, with a touch of old fashioned horror adventures. Fun to read with a nice level of mystery. Love the sarcastic horse Midnight!
Darius James is a 400+ year old monster hunter who is serving God under supervision of a sect of Catholic priests. He is sent to deal with demons, vampires, werewolves and whatever evil beast crawls out of hell. He is good at his job and has quite the reputation but he is not alone, there are others like him that do the same thing for the same people. He is sent to wipe out a nest of vampires in a small western town named Hells Gate. He quickly dispatches the vampires and is met by the local law sheriff and his deputies who escort him to town. He stays at the motel and meets a beautiful young woman who he is quickly charmed by. He sends a message to his boss via telegraph and has to wait on his next orders. While waiting, the locals need his help at the mines with unexplained murders. He goes out and determines a Wendigo is about. He deals with that and returning to town finds out Vampires are still around. All of his skills are tested and nearly overwhelmed with this vampire and he has to call in reinforcements. They arrive in the nick of time to save him. The three of them are tested to the max. I'll let you read about how it ends but not what you probably think.
I really enjoyed the pace of the story and the friendship of the warriors. I would recommend this story. Darius is a good character and has a great supporting cast.
