In this erotic short story collection, you’ll find eight tales that explore both strange and sensual encounters between monsters and men.
FABULOUS PRIZES: A carnival worker crosses paths with someone he knew in high school. DRAINED: A specter helps a man relax after a tiring day at work. IN FRUSTRATE: A curious man seeks out a demon companion in a club. A DUTIFUL HOST: A vampire checks on an absent guest at a party. CORPORAL REQUISITION: A military officer discovers he has a new assignment. NEW EXHIBIT: An aquarium custodian encounters an unusual creature during his night shift. THE HARPY KING: An avian king celebrates an important anniversary with his human mate. LUNA MOTH IN RED: A photographer wants to surprise his luna moth husband with a thoughtful gift.
Elle Porter (he/they) writes queer speculative romance. As a self-proclaimed cozy monsterfucker, they enjoy reading and writing stories both strange and sensual with a garnish of feelings.
I really enjoyed Fabulous Prizes, Drained, and New Exhibit. Some I enjoyed to a lesser note. A few I didn’t really care for at all. Regardless of the stories, the writing was enjoyable throughout. It was lighter on the horror than expected, and while not a fan of horror generally, I find myself slightly disappointed about the lack of it.
This book is wonderfully erotic and addicting. I honestly loved it and if I had to voice any criticism at all it would be that I wanted more! Each of the short stories contained here are absolutely perfect, and yet, not enough! If that makes sense! I loved the variety of settings and characters and was completely entranced throughout each story. Each tale was like a full book condensed down to its bare bones, but with just enough to paint a very clear picture. The entwining element of having a trans male character was done so well that you barely register the uniqueness - it just is! A lot of stories that deal with trans characters make it a pivotal point - draw attention to it as if it needs to be stated - and in these stories there is none of that. The character's physical appearance and state are just what they're are. It's the story that carries the weight, not the form that the gender takes. I was completely swept away and I absolutely recommend this book!
If you love erotic horror romance, monster romance, queer romance, and the combination of all three, you’ve got to read Elle Porter’s Dulce Monstrum and Hyacinth. In Dulce Monstrum, a short story collection, you’ll get a variety of relationships and delicious monster encounters. It ranges from demon possession/carnival fun house mirror banging to shower monster times and a wholesome married moth + human couple shooting boudoir together (one’s the muse, the other is the photographer). It’s so sweet and so sexy.
Elle Porter’s writing simultaneously gives me all the best chills and heartwarming feelings.
An aside: while the romances I’ve read often focus on big genital equipment, I love how the characters in Porter’s work embrace and rejoice in the small, too, and it is no less sexy and no less wonderful.
Transmasc MM romance.
CW: sex, smoking, drinking. (See author’s website for more.)
Hot!! This is an m/m erotic collection where almost every story features a trans man alongside some monster/demon/etc man-being. Would have been nice to see some t4t content but I guess you can’t have it all. Most of the stories were on the lighter side, with two of them a bit darker, but none were heavy on the horror. Very good collection.
This little collection of short stories was a mixture of hot, spicy, and sweet. It featured a delightful mix of monsters and their humans, from hookups to long-term relationships. I'll definitely be coming back to reread them.
A well written collection that's got something in here for everyone, at least in my opinion. My love for each story varies, but overall I really really liked this collection! Its definitely something i've gone back to reading at least 3 times
The short stories in this book were all very different. I found myself only liking a select few of them. This is nothing against the author at all. I appreciate how diverse their writing style is. It means they can write for a different variety of people. My absolute favorite of the bunch was Drained. It intrigued me to no end how a ghost could be Corporeal enough to have sex. The one story I like the least has mostly to do with my preferences more than anything else. It was the short In Frustrate. I will be looking into more of Elle Porter's work soon.
