Maggie and her vintner husband Laurent are long overdue for a real vacation. So with the harvest in their Provençal vineyard over, they’ve slipped away to the jewel in the Cote d’Azur—St-Tropez—for a week of sunning, shopping, and…reconnecting.
Unfortunately, St-Tropez was more than just fun in the sun back in Laurent’s day when he and his cronies used to scam the rich tourists there for a living.
Who could blame him for thinking his deeds in St-Tropez had been buried for good? And when the bodies start falling over the side of their rented yacht, who could blame Maggie for thinking he should have known better?
With the clock ticking and Laurent’s freedom in jeopardy by a very determined policeman with an axe to grind and a long memory, Maggie will have to dig deep this time to find the culprit behind the murders.
Or return to Domaine St-Buvard minus a husband.
This book is a clean no graphic violence, sex or strong language light culinary cozy mystery, women amateur sleuth, cozy animal (dog)
I can't believe that I just finished the 21st book in the Maggie Newberry series and have pre-ordered number 22. I feel as if I have grown up with Maggie and am part of that family.
Maggie and Lawrence went to San Tropez for a vacation for the first time since the their daughter Mila had left for college in Florida (the older boys are also studying in the US). They were having a lovely time on a boat that they had rented until a murder occurred on the boat while they wetr eating out. Lawrent's past from when Maggie first met him comes back to haunt him when the original policeman realizes he's in St. Tropez. When Lawrence is framed for the murder, Maggie has to investigate to clear his name. Of course she was nearly killed in the process but only ended up with a broken arm! She also ended up with Lawrent's 3-year-old granddaughter which is a whole story in itself. I just love this family and everybody connected with it such as Grace and her grandchildren and Danielle. And I can't wait for number 22!
This is 21st in this series, and apparently I've skipped a few others in the series, but it's fun to catch up with Maggie and her husband (vintner and former con man) on vacation in St. Tropez. After starting out with a luxury vacation on a sailboat, once again they get involved in trying to solve a murder, and Laurent's past seems to be catching up with him. It's a good mystery with interesting villains.
Finally, an actual romantic vacation for Maggie and Laurent. Why did they pick St Tropez Laurent's old stomping grounds? Their first days are all Maggie could ask for beautiful surroundings, great food fabulous wine and a truly attentive Laurent. Then all hell breaks loose as we take a walk down memory lane with Laurent as his past errors in judgement catch up to him. Old enemies see their chance to get revenge and settle old scores. Maggie will need all the help she can get to find the actual killer as the bodies begin to pile up. This is a great read which concentrates mostly on Maggie.
I have read all the books in the Maggie Newberry Mystery series in sequences. I love the characters and whole idea of living in Provence. The descriptions the towns and life style is charming. I find that frequently the characters ages do not carry through the series from one book the the next. I would love to see a floor plan of Domaine St-Buvard.
Another good Maggie mystery. But like many of her other books, there are some editorial inconsistencies in a few places in the book. Such as showing a photo on her phone just hours after her phone was smashed. Yes, I know I am being picky.
I like the characters and it has been fun to see what Susan has done with them through the years.
This is the 21st book of the Maggie Newberry series and I have enjoyed each of these books. Maggie and her husband, Laurent are staying on the French Riviera and enjoying a break from their lives in Provence, but when he is accused of murder, their vacation is upended and Maggie must pull out all the stops to find out the truth. Am engaging read!
While the book has some obvious twists and turns, there is a surprise ending. But the Dernier family is resilient and persistent. A great new joy comes into their life! Charming.
