What is the purity of Tawheed? Why is it so important? Why did Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘Alayhi Wasalam) say that our deeds, on their own, are insufficient to grant us entry into Jannah?
Faith in Perspective invites the reader to reflect upon fundamental Islamic concepts that we often take at face value. The author delves deeper into these concepts, quoting sources from the Quran and Hadith, relating them to everyday experiences, and writing about them in a way that is easy to understand and apply.
This book synthesises many of the core scholarly works in simple and engaging English. Its central message is that Islam is more than just a way of life - it is first and foremost, a way of thinking.
I have to admit, introducing Tawheed 3 is an easy approach for 'orang awam' to understand more about faith and aqidah. It is an easy reading and a good start to learning about the fundamentals of our religion.
Our writer beautifully wrote this book, and I can't count how many times I cried while reading it, especially in the spotlight topic.
I can say Faith in Perspective: A Return to the Fundamental Principles of Islam is the best book to understand faith for me as orang awam. The chapters were arranged accordingly to help us readers understand the pathway of the books, one by one starting from the question 'Why were we created?' and ending with 'Character change and the Islamic philosophy to life'
It is important to understand the hikmah of our existence and to purify our hearts. Our writer explains it in a very good way, by bringing us with Hadith, Al-Quran and also Sirah. This part helped me to acknowledge the correlation of the description with my own experience. Remember what I said about the spotlight topic? The topics helped me to always serve my heart with sirah, and most of it is new knowledge for me. It brings back the eagerness for me to learn about our prophet.
I can sense how sincere our writer is in enlightening us about Faith in Our Perspective. Our perspective to understand and see our religion which is Islam is a very crucial part of our life to be a good Muslim, to become one of the Muttaqeen. And it must come with the understanding of our Creator, for our ibadah, our five Islamic pillars and rukun Iman. The purification of the heart was emphasised many times, and our writer has given the guidelines to us. It is up to us to follow it or not.
And I appreciate the explanation of our shahadah, it is a long chapter and it helps me the most to understand the underlying meaning. Our shahadah is the fundamental principle of being a Muslim, and truthfully, the explanation of suratul Fatihah is new to me!
And there are some parts that I agree to disagree with, which are doing 'there is no way for the living to donate rewards to the death except for sedekah jariah, ilmu yang bermanfaat and doa anak yang soleh.' This somewhat has many 'pendapat' and I choose to be sederhana and respect others. (I'm talking about rewards of reading Al-Quran untuk si mati, from my understanding)
Again:- and I respect others pendapat :) and I respect our writer, may Allah mercy her.
Reading this book gave me more and more insight into our religion, and I became more excited to deepen my knowledge. Indeed knowledge can guide us to become better Muslims day by day.
May Allah forgive us for our wrongdoings, and selawat and salam to our prophet, Muhammad SAW.
There are times when i come across certain books that glued my eyes from the very start, my heart remain attached to it till after i finish reading and i can still hear the words echoed at the back of my head after some times. This book is one of them!
It’s neither because i’ve just heard the information for the first time nor it introduces me to something new. It’s actually because it gives me a fresh perspective and insight towards something (i thought) i’ve already known and familiar with. It gives me the ‘Ahaa’ moments!
This book encourages us to reassess our understanding towards the fundamental Islamic concepts that we tend to overlook. When understanding doesn't go beyond comprehension, it may lead to misunderstanding, bida’ah and shirk.
Let’s take Ibadah as an example. We probably know them but do we understand its significance? Do we practice them? And If yes, do we conduct them according to Allah’s prescription? Why perfection of ibadah comes after strengthening our akidah? How about the afterlife? Are there any merits from the living that can be transferred to the dead? What are the 5 questions that we’ll be asked upon being resurrected?
These are some of the fundamental questions discussed by the author in Faith in Perspective (1st book in the Faith series). Extensive amount of Quran verses and Hadith are quoted so as the great scholarly works. Yet the writing is very straightforward and intelligible, accessible to everyone even to young readers. It has also sparked fruitful discussions amongst the readers in our bookclub and that’s another plus point!
With that i highly recommend this book to everyone out there who wish to strengthen their understanding about the religion. As the writer said, “Islam is more than just a way of life-it is first and foremost a way of thinking.”
