Taiyo Asano has been on his own ever since his parents died. The only one who seems to care for him is his childhood friend and classmate, Mutsumi Yozakura. But Mutsumi has a secret–she is the head of a family of spies!
Mutsumi’s been kidnapped by Hanawa, a spy who is a master florist! The entire family is dispatched to save her. Having failed to put up a fight against Hanawa the first time they met, will Taiyo be able to defeat him this time? Later, Taiyo is arrested by a mysterious detective who seems to know a lot more about the Yozakura family than he should…
While I liked volume one, I can genuinely say I deeply enjoyed this second volume because I laughed SO much! Taiyo's internal comebacks to the questions people ask him and the situations he faces are SOOOO on point that I lost count of how many times I laughed just in the first quarter of the volume alone! Definitely a story that I don't think takes itself TOO seriously but also does have some serious moments thrown in to capture the spy element pretty well. Great job mangaka!
I definitely also felt that Kyoichiro is much more toned down compared to volume one. We spend a lot more time with other siblings and honestly was my favorite part of this volume specifically. Each character is really unique and has their own special dynamic with Taiyo that it was fun seeing how different situations would unfold in each chapter. Also made me read a lot faster I noticed because I just was having such a great time!
I LOVED the "date" chapter! It was SOOOO cute and totally ship these two so much!! A very fun shonen couple that I definitely can't wait to see in anime form! (Also I LOVE this cover! They look so cute together!)
Overall, I was a little unsure of how long this series would carry me with the previous volume even though I enjoyed it. But since reading volume two, I had such a blast following Taiyo! There are so many different shenanigans that I'm like as long as I don't think TOO hard on certain parts (such as the water balloon thing for example), it's a really great time reading this! Bummed I have to wait for volume three to release because I want to see more shenanigans unfold!
This wasn’t as good as the first volume but still really enjoyable! I liked getting to know the other family members, but the schtick of everyone being obsessed with Mutsumi is getting old.
PESSIMO!
Probably a bit more enjoyable than the first volume overall, but there's still no focus here. Vague hints at a bad guy while everyone keeps doing this sort of... episodic slice of life action comedy about spies. Which is fine but it's not really good at any of those in particular. It has some good jokes but isn't laugh-out-loud funny. It's got some action but no complex fight scenes. It's easily digestible and easily forgotten, mostly harmless except for some weirder gags.
Alright, well, YozaFam continues to be pretty good, even if it's nowhere near the upper echelon of Jump manga (though I won't say anything from the past few years is as good as the longest-running series right now, One Piece and Hunter x Hunter; Jujutsu was great for the duration of the lengthy Shibuya arc, but mediocre beforehand and rote afterward...).
I need to learn to temper my expectations a bit more, or, really, to just ignore other people's opinions. Before I started reading this manga, I looked up the list of "story arcs" on its fan Wiki, mostly interested to see if any arc would last a particularly long chapter-count, or if it would be like e.g. Gintama where everything is largely episodic, occasionally flirting with small arcs lasting a handful of chapters. From the Wiki, it looked like the manga would be composed of a lot of short-ish arcs around ten chapters in length. Reading the first two volumes, I've learned the Wiki had the same old bullshit found in a lot of Western manga fandom: forcing series to conform to a specific narrative standard incongruent with the actual text. A rather "Big Thing" I've discovered recently is that Western fans like to invent "Sagas" as a collection of smaller, related, sequential "Arcs," inventing terms where it feels like the original authors had no such idea. This is probably worst in HeroAca fandom, by the way. I'd say this "Saga" shit is fallout from people growing up on Funimation's Dragon Ball (Z) dubs, but, anyway, I'm digressing too much for this rant, as YozaFam hasn't seemed to suffer the "let's make up names for 'Sagas'" treatment yet. What does happen is fans will latch on to a short sequence of chapters focusing on a singular antagonist, then work backward to say everything since the previous antagonist is a unified arc. So we have Taiyo marry into the Yozakura family and start training, then the courier guy kidnaps Mutsumi, and this whole sequence of chapters is the Flower Delivery Arc or whatever, despite most of it having nothing to do with the courier. And now we have the Popoppo Arc because the president introduced himself, and everything since the courier fight has been the Popoppo Arc, despite many episodic chapters having nothing to do with this guy, and despite the courier having been hired by the Popoppo president, meaning technically that whole fight could be viewed as part of this same arc....
I used my "rom-com" tag for the first volume, but that element seems to have dropped off a bit by now, or at least comes and goes. That is, Taiyo and Mutsumi are techincally "married," and the family's mission is about protecting Mutsumi, but that has little to do with the "comedy" of the series, which is more about the over-the-top spy stuff Taiyo's sucked into. That said, the "Date" chapter was quite nice. (I actually started writing this paragraph when I was on Chapter 12 or 13, so after the "Date" chapter, #14, the volume started focusing more on Taiyo and Mutsumi's relationship...)
Mutsumi looks cute in her sweater on the volume cover.
The introduction of Ayaka proves that the OL teacher last volume wasn't just a fluke, and Gondaira is a whiz at drawing pantyhose-covered thighs and calves...!!!
Oulala!
This is fine insofar as entertaining fight scenes, but pretty standard. They're not enough to keep me coming back to this series, especially with the unpalatable-to-me premise of a pure figureheard girl who is the inpetus for the main character to get stronger while she makes perfect bento and healing potions. The obsession of her older brother is also extremely creepy, even though it's meant to be for laughs. If the obsessed figure was a father figure or even just a random guy, he would be condemned for being controlling and unhinged. While I realize this is a shonen action series, I have read better ones, and maybe people should have higher standards/a more nuanced take of what is being targeted to tween/teen/young men.
I did not like this volume as much as the first. I thought it was smart how they started showing how other members of the family interact and do their "spy" jobs. I think my favorite part was the "date" that Taiyo and Mutsumi go on. Their interactions in that chapter were what really sold me in the first place about the manga. Cause it was action packed but also had this very socially awkward vibe. I thought that was a cool concept. Having a character learning the art of espionage but also being socially awkward.
I would still recommend the manga. I'm hoping it gets better in the third volume.
The manga continues where Taiyo and the whole family saves Mutsumi from getting whisked away by the Flower courier. Then Taiyo is taken for interrogation where he is tested by Kyoichiro and Detective Hotokeyama. He passes the test with flying colors. And each chapter is kind of dedicated to a mission work with each sibling of the Family. It gives an insight of their relationships and character in general. Finally we know the culprit for all the issues. It is time pass and fast paced. Loved it.

I think I jumped on to Yozakura hot off the heels of finding SpyxFamily. With the being so good and this having so many tried and test manga/anime tropes in, I think I’m looking for something a bit more…
I might pick this back up in the future but if kind of feels a bit aimless at the moment. A bit harsh to say two volumes in, but hey!
Enjoyed it quite a lot. Even the tiny sidenotes are funny. Some new characters got introduced. And there was a description of Mutsumi's beauty written by Kyoichiro, that was absolutely mind-blowing! I love Mutsumi more now. Meanwhile Taiyo is already in the realm of superhuman. What more can a reader want!
Though its the second volume I am loving every second of it!! As the story continues on you get to learn about certain characters can be. Or just how crazy some of these characters are! I just couldn't put it done and couldn't stop enjoying while laughing at the funny parts! All I will say is just pray for Taiyo and his crazy adventures that he goes on!
Could have been better if Mutsumi had more character or something better to do. Taiyo keeps things quasi realistic which makes the zany more entertaining. Other Yozakuras getting some personality or at least page time also appreciated.
Storia simpatica..
