It was interesting and I did find out more about the culture of Old Testament times. It was written well but I found it quite hard going. That says more about me than the author I suspect. Have had this book for 35 years and finally read it!

The writing was simplistic and as a novice reader of the Bible, I was grateful. The (text)book provided both a historical and religious overview of the Old Testament. It also provided some background of the prophets and other key figures in the stories.

The stories in the Old Testament are compelling and carry universal themes that many consider basic knowledge so it was a worthwhile read. I plan to read "Introducing the New Testament" by the same author in the near future.
