Lux My father handed my mother to the men who burned her on a pyre. I was left with my Gran, tucked away inside a cabin in the Welsh woods. My mother’s books were all I had left of the brave woman I once idolized. Soon, the woods began to call to me, the dark depths seeming more inviting than my own reality. It wasn’t until I awakened that I realized just what my curiosity had done. Before me stood not a beast, but a man. A man so fierce, that I would willingly forsake my God, just to worship him.
Fenrir
Exiled, for murder. All because of the beast inside me. Blood, war, and women roused him; the full moon stilled him. I did not hunt these woods for women; but the men in the black coats do. I pay no mind to them because they leave offerings at my doorstep. I am no God, but I enjoyed being revered. My thoughts never strayed from day-to-day tasks, until the day I saw the fox-haired girl. She was to be mine, and I would shed as much blood as Odin would allow to make that so.

I don't even know what to say. It was all over the place and so vague; I wasn't sure of what was happening. He kept having dreams of her; just no idea it was her when they met. His dreams stopped but then 10 years pass, but he still has them? He knows she's close, but she's only 10 years old. She is his.... what the actual heck? So confusing.
The Wolf of the Woods: A Little Red Riding Hood Retelling spools out a zesty spin on the classic fable. While the original story really needs no introduction, this spicy reimagining brims with bestial violence, teases with taboo blood play, and delivers satisfying vengeance.
“Was it man or beast that stalked us in these woods tonight? Either thought was better than living out another day caring for a woman who enjoyed punishing me.”
There’s something primitive and carnal and captivating about this dark remake, each facet no doubt enhanced by the fabled elements in play, along with something like magic in the air when two souls seek and find a destined connection. The intimate coupling of the star players is a clear and obvious focal point of the story — there are some truly inspired sex scenes, please believe that — but it is the ruggedly romantic context of each scene, the setup thereof, and the buildup thereto, that wrings out the most from such moments. What first feels like a flirty whisper and a wink soon becomes a galactic starburst of fleshy pleasures, the throes of which fully realized and leaving little to the imagination.
“I sniff the air that trails behind her, a sweet perfume of pheromones that tickles my wolf’s belly . . . You can run, but you can’t hide.”
Blood-stained moments of horror and brutality must be mentioned to properly round out the list, which I assure you has been checked twice: this risqué remix fully intends to be naughty, with no plans of being nice. A forbidden fairytale from the red-light district, The Wolf of the Woods howls with white heat.
I have no idea what I just read…you shouldn’t even bother to be honest…
I honestly can’t give a summary, and I typically do. So I’ll just jump in instead with what’s wrong with this book, because honestly? There is no right.
First off, and I would have been nicer if this was a debut, but this author states herself, at the end, that this is a book she’s been wanting and waiting to write. Now that she’s a more “established”, her words, author, she felt it was the right time. Bitch, where?
Firstly, the time jumps are weird, he starts dreaming about her and “wanting” her when she’s 10, even has sex dreams, though apparently it’s of her aged properly in the future. Who the hell knows 🤷♀️
Secondly, the writing, while not horrible per-say, could have used so much editing. Most of the time the h is jumping from memory to memory, or speaking in thoughts alone. Nothing is italicized so it’s confusing as fuck what’s actually going on. She does this for multiple paragraphs before jumping in the present tense. And it’s constantly, not just once or twice. Like the whole fucking book.
Third, their sex scenes were better in his dreams, and that’s saying something cause those sucked too.
Fourth, while she was tutored, though yeah she screwed him instead of learning much, she was still somewhat educated but acted and spoke like a moron.
Honestly, if you want an actual decent Little Red re-telling just go to S. J. Saunders and read “Red” , it’s a little alien, a lot of hot, and way better written and thought out. I promise.
Overall? 1 because I have to rate , truthfully a 0 Plot? 0 Spice? 0 Cheating? who cares? But no Char Dev? 0 Fav Char? None. Tropes? fantasy retelling, stalking, fated mates, shifter Triggers? Yes, if you choose to read this, please know the following are inside: burning women, rape, abuse, kidnapping, blood, violence, language, murder
This was…messy. It felt like someone telling you a story who was making it up as they went along. Also even though it felt like a lot of backstory for a short read…I didn’t think any of it really felt like it mattered.
Lordy 😩 My religious trauma ate this up. Little red ridding hood retelling with a witchy twist. Everything I didn't know I needed till I read it. Writting was a bit confusing at times but the smut made up for it. Def recommend checking the tw. When there both crazy>>>>>
I actually really enjoyed this book! I saw actually due to the fact of me not liking books written in the past.
What u liked about this is the author put such a flip on red riding hoods story that it kept me drawn in even tho it was set in 1976.
All the feelings of hurt, loneliness, betrayal and saddness u can feel it all! But then you also feel all the love that replaces and pushes away the bad memories that happened to her.
I wish we could have gotten a look into their future with pups and how they functioned being half and half I think it would have been a fun twist!!
I'm happy she got her revenage and that's he accepted his darkness and him Hers. It sucked he had to wait so long for her to come around but it was worth the wait in the end and it made it better for them!
I truly truly loved how dark this was.
There is spice in this book!
I loved how he beat his wolfs possessiveness of keeping her when she didn't understand yet and gave her the option. It just spoke so highly of himself as a man and keeping his wolf in check!
I would have loved a more descriptive image of the wolf (i love seeing how others perceive their wolf in their head) but it was still a subtle depiction of him!
Thank you for a wonderful story I ate up every minute of it !

This is a rare gem of a story. I am not a fan of historical romances at all but Savvy won me over with her talented writing and her vivid detail while creating a world with two characters I fell in love with. Lux is such a strong young woman, with a spirit that could rival the strongest of men. I was drawn to her from the beginning of the story, intrigued with wonder of how she was going to grow up while the people raising her were trying to snuff out her fiery spirit. Fenrir is a wolf warrior that is cast out of his tribe. I loved watching him develop from accepting solitary living to realizing his true mate exists and is close. These two together was a sight to behold, as their story began their compatibility is undeniable. I loved seeing Lux not back down and how Fenrir worshipped that about her. How these two support one another and how their love and acceptance of one another are words to behold. Savvy created a story that enraptured and held me in its grasp being just a touch dark and just the right amount of steam. Honestly, I loved it so much I read it in one sitting and I am tempted to flip back to the beginning and start again. Definitely one of the best reads I have been graced with so far this year and I will be checking out more works by this talented author.
A unique Red Riding Hood retelling with a hefty dose of spice, this story had me reading in a frenzy just to see what would happen next.
The soul-linked connection of the main two characters was my absolute favorite part of this story. As a words person, the sentiments one gifts to another’s heart is the spark that lights the fire for me. While Savvy has the jaw-dropping romantic spice nailed down, she was able to speak to my true preferences as well. It takes a special kind of writer to capture my adoration that way.
Full of spiritual themes, profound bonds, toxic beliefs, and staggering spice, this book is not for the faint of heart, but it most certainly is designed for those who crave a dark and thought-provoking adventure.
I love ❤️ Savvy's books, so when I saw this I had to jump in!
Just an FYI there are some triggers: blood play, murder, kidnapping.
I love the little red riding hood story so when I saw this twist I said 'yes please'
Lux is exactly what I would picture someone in her position would be like. Also, she is kind of bad ass, or really bad ass.
Fenrir is sexxy ❤️ do I really have to say more. A sexxy wolf 🐺 back talking and knows how to tie knots 🪢 👌 😄 Sign me up.
This is PNR cause of the wolf but if your someone who normally doesn't like that I still think this is the book for you. The wolf just adds to the story.
I've heard through the grapevine that Savvy has more of these retelling coming out so keep an eye out.
Wolf of the Woods is a historical dark romance with a whole lot of spice! 🌶🌶🌶 You get a badass female MC and a sexy shape shifting warrior. (I ❤ Fen) When they get together it is 🔥 🔥 🔥. I loved the spiritual essence to the story as well.
This book had a lot of firsts for me. Blood play, shape shifting, murder and it was my very first Little Red Riding Hood retelling! The story was fast paced, intriguing and the characters were easy to fall in love with.
The author does warn of trigger warnings so check out her site for those she listed before you dive in.
BTW, I loved and laughed at the scene with the minister! It was my favorite to see Lux put on that show in an act of defiance.
I haven’t read many LRRH retellings and this was a good. A cool spin with introducing Norse mythology into the story. My problem with the story is the framing of characters and spirituality. I get it’s part of the storytelling process but there can also be nuance. There’s a hard line frame that the Christian God is unforgiving and spiteful. And in the same the Norse gods are great and perfect. This would be cool if it didn’t read like the author hadn’t gone so hard on one and not the other. Reading her bio I totally understand why religion is written this way. I just wish there was more nuance.
I think the premise was there, but it falls far short of what is promised. Let's go through it.
1. The background story: the wolf and the witch. This is fine, if not the most well-executed section. 2. Plot: Find mate, claim mate, have pups. Oh, and kill some people. 3. Spice: I'd give it 2/5 peppers, but the scenes are bland except for one. 4. Writing: It feels like the jumbled mess of a first or second draft. Not even ready for beta readers. 5. Character development: LOL. No.
Again, I think retelling can be great, but this one would benefit from revision and further development.
Oh Miss Savvy Rose! You know the way to my little black heart.
This book had everything I desire in a dark romance read. Wickedly delightful woman, check. Hot alpha man, check. The heat between the two is off the charts. Once I was done, I was craving for more.
The growth in which this author’s writing has grown, is amazing and impressive. This is author not to sleep on! She has a way with words and this book is one you don’t want to miss. Especially if you love dark romance like I do! I give it 5 stars.
I'm not sure where to start. The plot didn't exist and things were a bit all over the place but the SPICE. Lord have mercy, the spice. Also this was kind of dark. Like way darker than I originally anticipated but I'm not mad about it.
Check trigger warning because there's blood play, bdsm, child abuse, some issues with Christianity, and r**e at one point.
However, despite all of those things, this was a decent book. It's very primal and I loved that. It's also set in the late 1600s which I was not expecting but it worked here.
Loved this book! Right away I simped for Fenrir and maybe it’s because I feel for people who are done dirty and want nothing more for them to be loved.
Lux is a great character that shows a great side of questioning things— religion being a big one. I haven’t seen many books with this. I’d say less than a handful. So it’s a breath of fresh air, because, GIRL SAME.
And to top it off with this book: ✨Viking shifter✨
Man, I’m a sucker for Vikings. So this is *chefs kiss*
A spicy historical PNR shifter romance. A unique and grim little red riding hood retelling. There are tons of triggers so be sure to check out the authors website before entering this one. I gave this a 4.5 only because I wish it would have been a bit darker but overall it was really great and that ending was top notch!
A dark, gripping, and addictive read! Lux and Fenrir’s story pulled me in from the first line full of mystery, danger, myth, and irresistible chemistry. The atmosphere is haunting, the romance intense, and the characters unforgettable. If you love powerful heroes, fierce heroines, and stories that blend myth with passion, this one is a must read.
The Wolf of the Woods is a twisted take on the story of Red Riding Hood. It is dark and twisted but it is so unique. It will pull you in from the very beginning. I will put the blurb below. Check out Savvy's website for the triggers.
Oh, Fenrir. Every wild woman is searching for her wolf of the woods. I LOVE flawed characters; those who don't fit the mould and have a little bit of damage from the world. Lux and Fenrir are perfect. I loved the chemistry, the story and the heat. A great read.
The Wolf of the Woods is a stunning retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, haunting, passionate, and beautifully written. Savvy Rose weaves danger and desire into a tale that’s both fierce and unforgettable. An absolute must-read!
I loved this book. Devoured quickly. I’m super interested for the sequel. The lore and the time setting was perfection. And the fact that he is a Viking. Yes please. the spice was AMAZING. Cannot wait for more.
It took me a bit to get into this one, and I struggled at first to follow along with what was going on (I think it would’ve benefitted greatly from more attention to continuity, definitely would have bumped the rating to a 4) but once I was hooked, I was HOOKED. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this take on Little Red Riding Hood. The story that she created was new, fresh, and entertaining while at the same time it all made SENSE. It wasn’t TOO new or fresh. It sparked that perfect amount nostalgia in my heart (and butterflies in my stomach) while still keeping me on my toes which is EXACTLY what a retelling should do. Though I do personally struggle with the warewolf genre as a whole, I think this was 100% the BEST way to do it. I also MUST commend the healing nature that this story provides to those who have experienced religious trauma. Lux is the poster child for reclamation and I loved every second of watching her do just that with Fenrir. I will ABSOLUTELY be reading the upcoming second book in the series
I devoured this book and loved every page. This spicy retelling of Little Red Riding Hood was fantastic. Being set in the Welsh forest in the 1800 was a fun setting that I wasn't expecting. The lore along with witches, monsters in the forest and old world views was so interesting. I loved Lux, she was absolutely unapologetically herself. Her views that seem so obvious were definitely out of step at the time this story takes place and I loved that she questioned it all. Fenrir, the big (D) 😜 bad wolf was sexy, possessive and straight feral. His devotion and trusting Lux to make her own choices was lovely to read. The smut in this book was top tier 🔥. I can't say enough good things about this book and as always check triggers.
This was a super easy and fun read. There is VA I love named Bourbon Neat and this gave me the same vibes as him. Fenrir is so growly and burly🔥 Lux is quirky and it was interesting watching her navigate her conflicting emotions and upbringing. There are some touchy and maybe difficult to read subjects in this book so make sure you check TWs.
