I am the greatest detective of all time. Actually, I’m not a detective at all. I’m a wedding planner. But I’ve just solved the craziest murder of all time, so I’m feeling pretty good about myself.
Unfortunately, my husband Spencer is in trouble at work because of my sleuthing. He’s the Chief of Police in our small town, and my latest exploits have been a little too visible.
So, when a friend of mine dies from an over-excited personal plug-in device that turns her into a human barbecue, Spencer starts shadowing my every move. He’s all over me to make sure I don’t get involved.
How can I not get involved? I mean, when I smell murder, I need to solve it. And this death stinks of murder. A charred murder.
Sadly, I have other problems to deal with as well. Grandma has a terrible cold, so I’m pulling double Wedding planning and matchmaking. And the clients for both businesses are giving me terrible headaches. Normally, Christmastime is our slow season, but I’m busy with business, murder, missing carolers, a blizzard, and a donkey with a terrible case of IBS. How will I deal with all of this and not get Spencer fired from the police force?
Die Charred is the fourth installment of the Matchmaker Marriage Mysteries, the continuing adventures of Gladie and Spencer from the Matchmaker Mysteries. It’s a funny, romantic small town mystery.
Elise Sax worked as a journalist for fifteen years, mostly in Paris, France. She took a detour from journalism and became a private investigator before trying her hand at writing fiction. She lives in Southern California with her two sons. An Affair to Dismember is her first novel.
Gladie’s Miss Marple act is strong in this one! But it may jeopardize Spencer’s job. Lots of laughter, mystery and romance in Cannes along with snow!! Love this series!
Gladie and Spencer, the crime fighting duo of Cannes, California. He’s the hunky chief of police and she’s got the “gift” of matchmaking, wedding planning and mystery solving. I’m pretty sure Gladie is keeping Spencer in his job as she solves all the murders for him. Nothing about these murders is what it seems and Gladie’s gift is telling her to listen to her gut. I absolutely love this series, the characters and the eccentric fictional town. With one more book left I’ll be sad to see them go. I’ve been lucky enough to receive early copies, and I have to read them right away and forget everything else. My reviews are provided honestly and voluntarily.
Yet again, Gladie and her posse have a hilarious time solving more murders! I keep thinking Ms. Sax will, one day, run out of ridiculously funny ideas. She has proven me wrong once again! I will remind you all to not be drinking any liquid while reading this book, or you will end up snorting it through your nose.
This book/series is great. Always makes me happy to read about what Gladie and the gang are up to. There’s a laugh or two along the way and a murder to solve. In this book we learn that you should never let Spencer, Luck and Bridget get together to plan anything..hahaha A great read and you should definitely read it!
The latest book in this series follows the same formula as the others. Very little character development. I understand that there is one book left in the series. This is for the best. It is time for Glady to grow up and move forward. The author had a very creative idea with these series but I feel the characters have stagnated.
A fun and silly cosy mystery with all the usual Gladie chaos, but the series is definitely stuck in a bit of a loop now. Still entertaining, still easy to read, but it needs more personal stakes to really land.
This has got to be the best book of the series. Gladie and the crew are up to their usual shenanigans, but this book was meatier than the others, there was snow, and snakes and llamas but it all gelled together in a utterly enjoyable way, and I loved every single word of it.
What a sleeze! Still in love with Gladie and Spencer plus the rest of the town characters. A donkey with IBS just eeew! Actually guessed this one very early on, but still love the way it played out.
This is the most hilarious book in the series yet. Can the Wandering Carolers be found? Is death by helium, bread slicer, plate glass window and Choco Dog truck accidental? Read it and keep ... laughing.
