I am awestruck and hungry for reading more as I come to an end of “The Little Blue Book on Krishna” by Dr. Shubha Vilas. Yet another book that mystically, serendipitously landed in my lap. My heartfelt thanks & gratitude to Krishna for sending my way books/quotes/affirmations at just the right time.
About more than a decade ago, I had read halfway through the book Krsna - the Supreme Personality of Godhead by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. After having read this book by Dr. Vilas, I resolve to pick up the book by Swami Prabhupada and read it from cover to cover. Dr. Vilas’s book has fanned my hunger for reading and imagining (with eyes wide open) about Krishna and His pastimes.
What’s totally unique about this blue book on Krishna is that each story is written in a different voice, making the reading even more interesting. Each story involves various individuals (both animate and inanimate) connected to Krishna’s life, and is an autobiography of prominent characters narrating their personal experiences with Krishna. Each story will leave you with a moral/lesson for a lifetime.
Reading this book will leave you in awe of the blue-bodied Krishna who’s name itself means ‘all-attractive’. The stories will cast a spell on you and transport you to Mathura, Vrindavan, Dwarka, Kurukshetra and wherever Krishna displayed his Leela. So, fasten your seatbelt and enjoy this journey that’ll delight your very soul.
An enjoyable collection of stories about Krishna written from different points of view from people, animals, and even objects associated with him. Includes many stories of his childhood that I was unfamiliar with, as well as the more well-known tales of him from episodes in the Mahabharata. My brother bought this for me in India and it was an excellent present.
The "Little Book", as the author prefers to call it, comes with a big promise: "Here, you will find such delightful stories of Krishna's interactions with all His dear and near ones that you will drown in that sweetness filling your heart with love and joy. Every story in this book will send you reeling just as you would after consuming huge quantities of gulab jamun."
Looking at the life of the Lord through the eyes of those close to Him makes for humbling reading. From Vasudeva and Maa Yashoda to Draupadi and Bhima. My personal favourites are the stories of Satyabhama, 'How I Nearly Lost My Husband' and Devika, Vidura's wife, 'Peels of Love'.
This small book by Shubha Vilas-ji, a TEDx speaker, will no doubt gladden the hearts of the devotees.
I look forward to reading Shubha Vilas-ji's five-book series on the Ramayana: The Game of Life.
This excellently-produced "little" 350-page book is an enjoyable read.
An absolutely magnificent book! The stories narrated by Dr Shubha Vilas fill your heart with joy and sweetness. He uses the tool of personification of various people and objects in Bhagavan Krishna’s life to narrate tales based on their perception. A must read for anyone who has an affinity towards Krishna or wishes to learn about Him in an easy to understand format.
Reading this book has been such a joyful experience. From the very first page, a smile never left my lips. The stories made me imagine Krishna in his childhood — playful, mischievous, naughty yet so loving. His butter-thief smile felt so real — innocent, cheeky, and full of moonlight charm.
Shubha Vilas doesn’t just narrate Krishna’s leelas, he brings them alive through different perspectives — of people, animals, even objects around him. That makes every story fresh, layered, and deeply touching. What I loved most is how each tale carries a lesson that quietly seeps into daily life — about devotion, love, joy, and self-discovery.
This book isn’t heavy or distant; it feels lighthearted and deeply connecting. A Pandora’s box of sweetness indeed — one that reminds you that spirituality can be playful, too.

The author manages to present Krishna’s life in a way that is both engaging and spiritually uplifting. What stands out the most is how the stories are intertwined with practical wisdom that anyone can apply in their daily life.
Each story carries a deeper meaning, and the author does a fantastic job of making complex ideas easy to understand. Whether you're familiar with Krishna's stories or completely new to them, the book offers something for everyone. The simplicity in the storytelling doesn’t take away from the richness of the messages conveyed.
This is a must-read for anyone seeking inspiration and a greater understanding of Krishna’s teachings. It’s not just a book; it’s a guide to navigating life's ups and downs with grace, wisdom, and joy—just like Krishna himself.
This version emphasizes the blend of storytelling and practicality, making it approachable and inspiring.
Each character in Krishna's life describes Krishna in their point of view. I love the author's writing style because it's interesting to read and learn character's pov and Krishna.
Hare Krishna! I feel more calm & relaxed after reading this. I knew the stories voiced by my grandmother during my childhood, I recalled each one when reading this book. Kudos to the author!
